My 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid has 147,000 miles on it. Around 130,000 miles, I started noticing shaking upon acceleration. If I take my foot off the gas, it sometimes stops. It didn't happen all the time, so I didn't think too much of it. It has progressed now to freeway driving as well. Above 60mph, the car shakes as if you're driving on a very bumpy, construction-riddled freeway, whether or not I have my foot on the gas.
The shaking is now happening upon every single acceleration and all the time on the freeway and includes additional slipping of the transmission here and there as well.
I had my car guy look at it and he noticed 2 broken mounts - a motor mount and an transmission mount. He replaced both of them and the shaking still persists. He suggested I see the dealer or a transmission shop. Unfortunately, because it's a CVT transmission, not many shops work on them. The diagnostics testing at the dealership is $100+ and the local hybrid mechanics shop is also that much. I'm at a loss, not sure if I should pump more money into it or trade in. It has been a great car in every other aspect, however if the transmission goes out, I don't want to put $6k into it.
Update from May 13, 2015: Upon inspection from a CVT transmission expert, issue is found to be the start clutch. This caused damage to the transmission and repairs quoted were to be $4500. There was a class action lawsuit against Honda for this, but since my car was above 100k miles, Honda wouldn't budge. I decided to trade it in instead of pumping money into a car with multiple class action lawsuits and expensive repairs.
