I live in Texas so if you want to live, you must have a functioning AC in your vehicle. This is my 5th Honda and sadly it is my last. I thought buying the Sport Touring which is suppose to be the top of the line on any Honda model, I would be safe from the black hole of bad vehicles but I was wrong. So I am a single female with of course just 1 vehicle. I called Vandergriff Honda in Arlington to see when I could get my car in and to see about a loaner car just to be told all they could do is call me an Uber ride. So within a couple of hours Honda called and said it's not just the condenser, we THINK it is also the compressor, but that's not covered. So I was told that they did a diagnostic on the AC which cost me 169.00 and it confirmed that the compressor was leaking also.
Then the next day I get a call from a different person at Vandergriff that tells me they don't know what's wrong with my car as it hasn't even been looked at yet. So I get a call today saying the vehicle is ready. So I ask how much and was told they would discuss that when I came to pick up the car. That in itself is scary. So this being Saturday and they didn't tell me it was ready in time for me to get a ride to get it and they are closed on Sunday I will just have to wait until Monday. So when I go to get my car I will ask for all of the old parts that were replaced with new parts from my car. If the condenser was leaking and it caused the compressor to leak why would that be the responsibility of the buyer to repair? It was their faulty part that caused the problem.
We were the owners of these vehicles and they did not say oh well the condenser is leaking, let me crawl under my car and punch holes in the compressor so we can spend an extra $2000.00. No, if the condenser hadn't leaked, the compressor would not have leaked. So here is my take on this. They have no cars on their lots to sell so their only way of making any money now is on repairs and body work. So we the buyers of their cars will now pay the price to keep them in business. Unless of course we all stand together and request a lemon law on all cars with this problem. Would they rather fix the ac units on all of these vehicles, or would they rather have to buy them all back as the lemon law would require that they do?
2016-2018 Honda Civic is notorious for having defective AC issues.
Honda knows the issues and has released the TSB (19-091) to extend the warranty to 10 years unlimited miles. However, Honda will not simply honor this extended warranty and repair the defective unit.
They will make every excuses to not pay for the repairs saying that the condenser damage could have been caused by road hazard. They will not even inspect the car for free but rather charge $400+ for diagnostic.
