The standard OEM key fobs for Honda Civics, for several model years, and possibly for other Honda models, have a "feature" that seriously affects driver and passenger safety, and that cannot be disabled. If two buttons are depressed simultaneously on the key fob for a period of time, all of the windows go down and the doors unlock. I have encountered dozens and dozens, perhaps hundreds, of owner complaints about this "feature" on various Internet bulletin boards. Typically, the stories go, "I parked downtown in an unsafe area and I came back to my car and found that it was unlocked with all of the windows open and someone stole everything from my car, " or "I parked outside just before a rain storm and I returned to my car to find all of the windows open without my knowledge and the interior of my car was soaked." Single women could encounter this problem and be attacked by people hiding in the back seat. Apparently, if anything in one's pocket depresses the keys on the fob, without one's knowledge, this occurs. It has happened to me, where I'll bend down to tie my shoe and walk away and I'll return hours later to find all the windows open during a rain storm or in a bad part of town. I've asked American Honda numerous times for a way to disable this unwanted "feature" and they've said that they've not interested in addressing it unless they're forced to do so by the government. This is a serious safety issue, not only implicating potential crime, but a wet soaked car interior could affect electrical and navigation systems in a life-threatening way. If you respond, I can upload several Internet pages with owner comments and complaints about this problem.

1) Caused by faulty Body Control Module (BCM). 2) Can't enter car, key fob won't unlock car. Dashboard is illuminated when car is off, I can see it through my window. 3) Alarm horn went on when car is off. 4) Turn on my car, multiple errors, go to drive the car thinking I need to reset it from battery change. Shut off my car, but go to turn it back on. Car cranks but won't turn on, shows multiple errors on dash. 5) Dash shows "keyless start system problem" and car won't turn off. When pushing button to turn off car, head lights and a/c turn off but the engine still runs, push/start button flashes. Disconnected battery, still runs. Had to pull fuel or ECU fuse to stop the car running. 6) Can't reliably get my car to start. Issue is intermittent.

Car threw a p0035 code which indicates a problem with the turbo bypass valve solenoid high voltage/circuit. Car suddenly lost power and had many service lights go off. The check engine light, power steering, brakes, stability, and other lights went on. This prevents my car from going over 40 MPH without feeling like the car is struggling to accelerate. The dealership couldn't reproduce or confirm the issue when I went in for service. The code will disappear and reappear after a few starts ups. I noticed that the 2017 type R has this recall but I'm noticing a lot of other owners having this issue as well.

My AC system in my 2018 Honda has now failed twice under 80000 miles. The first time the compressor and condenser were leaking and failed around 50000 miles which the dealership said was due to a new refrigerant that Honda had started using for this generation of civics. Following this repair, Honda extended the warranty for these components of the AC system. Early in July 2024, I had the same issues with my AC blowing hot air only and making hissing and banging noises on the passenger side at around 75000 miles. Took this to the dealership and they again said that the compressor and condenser were leaking and had failed but also that the evaporator valve was leaking and failed due to the compressor and condenser issues. However, Honda has not extended their warranty for these parts and this would be an out of pocket cost. Honda needs to own up to their faulty AC system used in this generation of Honda civics and extend the warranty to all involved parts or issue a recall and properly fix the system so it isn-??t failing every 18 months.

Body control module constantly fails and begins to parasitically drain the battery of the vehicle. I've had to swap the body control module twice now after it has failed shortly after the warranty period. This is not as serious as other issue but having the battery drained at unexpected times can cause safety issues.

Water leaks in trunk every time it rains and stays in spare tire wheel well causing rust on spare tire, tools, etc. Also mold has presented in trunk which is another problematic issue. Honda Service Technician found wire/cable on wire harness that is not routed properly, damage to trunk seal is present from rubbing, recommended replace trunk seal and reroute cable. After checking online there are several complaints with the same issue. Honda is placing the responsibility of repair on the customer even though the customer did not perform the wiring. The water leak and the mold it causes needs to be addressed and recalled for repair ASAP. THANK YOU

I got a new alternator because I thought it was draining the battery. A few weeks later I didn-??t drive my car for 3 days and the engine would not start but all the lights would turn on. I got it jumped and took it the dealership and they still don-??t know what is wrong with it. This is the 4th time this has happened and I changed the battery every time.

Last week my body control module (bcm) malfunctioned in my car. I was first alerted to this from a car alarm going off. I tried my key fob and nothing happened. Despite nothing happening I walk outside to find it is actually coming from my car and none of the key fob buttons are working.(I have 2 I tried) I was completely locked out of my car and even the physical key was not opening the door. Yet for some reason the trunk was unlocked.(not able to enter car through here.) Looking inside the care to my amazement it was turned on in accessory mode despite me having absolutely no contact with the key except hours prior but the vehicle was properly shut off at that time. The safety concerns posed by this is that this could happen at any point potentially locking a pet, a child, or myself into my car with no means of escape. The car was only in accessory mode, but that means it-??s fully capable of turning itself on by itself. Had I parked my car in the garage and it turned over, I-??d probably be laying in my house dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. Upon looking online, there were countless occurrences of this happening in Honda-??s newer vehicles 2016+. Even to the point where Honda recalled the same body control module issue in their accord and insight models. But why not the civic in their line which suffers from the same issue as their flagship vehicles? I am still unable to get into my car at the moment so I have the part but I-??m looking to get it fixed asap as it-??s my only vehicle.

Car has power steering issue most noticeable at highway speeds, matching the description of the EPS defect on 2018 Civics (NHTSA ID: 18V663000 ) but my VIN was not included in the recall, despite showing the exact same problem. The steering sticks and has resistance to small adjustments, especially trying to go straight in a lane, & snapping side to side or pulling in opposite direction instead of smoothly turning, intensity varies. There is an audible "clicking" or resistance sound when turning. It's getting increasingly worse overtime, and is a safety issue. Matches testimonials of many other owners of 2018 Civics online. Ive had 3 independent engineers diagnose this issue as a power steering rack problem matching the recall - I have documentation from 2 attached below, the 3rd was an in-person recommendation, document was not provided. Honda is the only diagnostic not acknowledging the EPS problem. Please help me get this replaced so I can drive safely. The contact stated after Honda giving the runaround, they did confirm that the power steering rack is faulty and needs to be replaced. However, since the VIN was not included in the recall for the 2018 Honda Civics, they will not offer me any assistance with the $4200 repair.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle at the residence, the vehicle started losing electrical power. The instrument cluster lights became dim, and the infotainment system turned off. The contact stated that she parked and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving and turning the steering wheel. Additionally, the steering wheel became difficult to steer. The "Power Steering Failure" and "Brake System Failure" messages were displayed. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Car steering wheel became -??sticky-?? and -??jerky-?? and felt like lane keeping assistance was on preventing car from turning properly. Clicking noise and scraping started. Took to dealership and was told new tires required. Aware of multiple service bulletins and March 2023 class action regarding steering. Took to different dealership who is charging $3800 to replace steering rack. Allegedly not covered under warranty or recall. Car has only 45,000 miles on

Every so often, quite a few lights will come on my dash. These lights include and relate to problems with power steering, hill start assist, emissions system, traction control tire pressure, and brake system. It does not allow me to use my brake hold when this happens. Also, unsure if it has anything to do with it, it has caused a problem with my first cylinder and is reading that the fuel system is too rich. But the original few lights that come on, will come and go randomly when the car is shut off overnight and will typically stay gone until the car sits with the parking break on for a few minutes.

When I drive down the road at certain times the steering sticks which does not allow me to make the minor adjustments needed to stay in the center of a lane. This causes a jerkiness and overcorrection when driving at higher speeds. This has occurred on long trips and short drives, but sometimes the steering seems fine. I have confirmed that it is not the lane assist kicking in. It is a problem with the steering wheel sticking.
