Just want to fix the AC, dealer stated to charge $165.00+tax inspection fee before fixing the defective condensers. As a consumer, we trust the quality level of Honda and didn't expect the results like this, we don't claim our time spent to send the car back to dealer for the recalls, it is not acceptable and not reasonable at all to charge any fees to consumers related to AC failures, even the inspection fees should not be charged.
My air conditioning stopped working so went to my mechanic who didn't work on this new type of air conditioning unit. Suggested going to the dealer which I did in Shingle Springs, CA. Because I was just over the 36,000 mileage warranty, it cost me $1727.28 to get the air conditioner fixed.
I bought this car is September 2019 and I found this to be very expensive since my car is just over 3 years old with just over 36,000 miles.
I doubt anything will come of this but just wanted to log a complaint. I had a Honda Accord for about 16 years with no problems until it died on me. I suggest you go back to the original air conditioning units that didn't give this type of expensive problem for your customers.
This is a known problem. Honda was slow to take ownership and their solution (to replace the condensor) often results in future problems since the lubricant leaks out of the aircon system through the damaged condensor.
Dealers often lie to customers, claiming that "road damage" caused the problem. They know that this isn't true. The fins separate giving the appearance of a rock hitting the condensor, but it was the faulty condensor that caused this problem. The dealers know better.
Shame on Honda for their slow and incomplete "solution" to this problem.
Next time, I will buy a Toyota. Their cars are more reliable and the dealers take better care of their customers.
I am highly frustrated with the bad design of my 2018 Honda Civic. I have been having trouble with the AC since I bought the car new. In the 1st year the AC went out because the Freon was leaking after probably 5 trips to the dealer I was told my condenser or compressor was bad it worked for another 6 months and went out again and was told a rock hit the condenser it's not covered under warranty and it will cost $1200 and there is no way to prevent it from happening again. The dealer is aware that the design is bad and that it happens quite often but they haven't did a recall because they make more money off the bad design. I totally regret this model and year
Just purchased 2018 in Jan and ac stopped blowing cold air had checked I have a leak somewhere I have been told Honda was aware of problem but ain’t doing anything about problem as for fixing. What do I do about who to call?

Apparently the LX model civic has a different lower bumper insert that easily allows small rocks to puncture the AC condenser sitting in front of the radiator. This car has less the 6,000 miles, only drives on the highway and has never seen a gravel road yet has more dents in the AC condenser than a 90's ford pickup in your local high school parking lot.
Dealership claims warranty will not cover this due to it being "damage done by driving" but clearly a design flaw from manufacturer. There are dents higher than what seems physically possible. Unsure for the EX or higher trims but the LX has very straight and wide open slots under the bumper for airflow allowing this catastrophe to occur.
