Let me start by saying that I live in Tennessee and my home is on a hill, so I have a steep driveway.
I left my home earlier than usual so that I could drop my daughter off and go back home to clean out my car and take her car seat out because I was going on a trip after work that day and needed the extra room. I drove up my driveway, put the car in park, got out of the drivers seat and opened the drivers side back door. I was in the back seat and had gathered up all of the trash and toys and had just finished unhooking the car seat completely when I felt the car start rolling. I couldn't jump out, so I held on and braced for impact.
The car rolled down my driveway, across my street and into a tree on my neighbors property. I was thrown around the vehicle before being flung backwards out of the door that was still open. Once I came to, I thought I was crazy and had maybe neglected to put the car in Park, but when I checked inside the vehicle, the car was still sitting in Park. I also realized that I had been in the back seat cleaning out the car for at least 15 minutes before the vehicle began to roll, and if I had neglected to put it in Park, it would have rolled down the hill much sooner.
I called Honda and the customer service representative advised me they had seen similar issues in the past, just not from my vehicle in particular. She gave me a case number and said that someone from Honda would be in touch, but I have not heard from them yet.
