2017 Honda Civic SI with only 70-80 thousand miles needed new fuel injectors. 7 lights came on the dash around 75k miles before the car went into limp mode at about 79k miles. After doing research, I find that it’s the fuel injectors that need to be replaced. Dealers want to charge $2300. They wanted to tack on the cabin air filter for $150, and test for damage to the motor for $350 as well as other small things. For just the injector replacement they quoted me $1700.
I geared up to do it myself, injectors are replaced as a set and were around $400, joint pipe needs to be replaced as well since it’s only meant for single use and will leak fuel if not replaced and those are about $100; also might as well replace the intake manifold gasket since you have to take that apart to get down to the injectors, those are about $30. So far it’s costing me $530 for parts, and for the tools I will need, like specific torque wrenches that I will most likely never use again. I would say $150 just to play it safe for tools.
To do it myself will also take me at least a day so that’s a days worth of pay I’m losing which is about $300. With that being said I’m looking at about $980 to do it myself. Might at well spend $700 more to have the dealers do it, have them reliable for any mistakes or mess ups. I just think it’s crazy how many people who have had this issue with this car at the same mileage, and there isn’t a recall? Sounds like BS to me. You’d think a new car especially a Honda would be reliable enough to make it at least 100k miles before something major has to be replaced. Also after a quick google search I found that they claim even the brand new 2024 Hondas are expected to have their first major issue around 60k miles. What a joke. Guess I’m switching to Toyota after this mess… Wish I knew about this website before I bought the car!
