I purchased this 2016 Civic in January of 2016 and have had some major issues. In July of 2021 I began to smell a burning scent coming from the hood of the car but couldn't pin point where the smell was coming from. A day later while merging into the freeway (405 in Los Angeles, just imagine) the car suddenly began to decelerate when pressing on the accelerator, especially attempting to reach 50mph. I wasn't able to keep up with the flow of traffic and the RPM was going up and down rapidly. Luckily I was able to get off the freeway at the next exit. After coming to a stop at the off ramp and accelerating again it was very noticeable that there was something wrong with the card as it would not go above 25mph, and I was barely able to make it to a shopping center to park; the car didn't accelerate any longer as soon as I drove into the parking lot and I had to push it to a parking spot. I called my insurance to tow it to the nearest dealer since it was under extended warranty (so glad I bought it).
At the dealer I was told that the reason why the car lost power was because the transmission fluid had completely leaked. They found that the transmission gaskets had failed and had to be replaced. Luckily this was covered by my extended warranty.
