Going to work yesterday morning... For whatever reason my 2016 Civic locked up all wheels and came to a complete stop from appx 35 mph in about 40 feet or so in the middle of an intersection. There were no cars in front of me. The amber brake light came on, the car braked by itself, it slid to a stop, shut itself off, the dash lights and all indicator lights were very dim it started flashing no fob detected (or whatever word it uses for no fob). The car would not respond to anything I tried to do. After about 2 minutes everything returned to normal. The car started and ran fine. Still has not acted up again. Now I'm trying to remember exact details as the truck behind me has his brakes locked and is sliding towards me. He gets stopped with about 6 inches to spare. Very scary situation...I talked to the dealer and get the "Never heard of that before".

It has since been traded....

Update from Oct 16, 2017: BTW, I traded the car to Lowe Toyota in Warner Robins. It is on their lot now. I advised them of the problem...buyer beware!

Civic EX-T 4-1.5L

  • 13,000 miles

I brought a brand new 2016 Honda Civic Turbo SE-T on June 10th, 2016 and it has been one big headache. My problem started in August of 2016 with the radio system working when it wants to work and the windows would sometimes open or sometimes close. The first major issue happened on Sept 16, 2016 I had a little over 13000 miles on my car when I got up to get ready for work and the damn car would not even start. I was getting error messages going across the Faulty Dashboard. Here are a few of the error messages I was getting: Electronic Warning System Alert for Anti-Lock Brake System Problem, Power Steering Problem, Brake Hold Problem, Brake System Problem, Acceleration Problem, Emissions System Problem, VSA Problem, etc. I had my car towed to Honda Concord and was told it was the battery. (FORREAL!! ON A NEW CAR) The problem was ongoing and was in and out the dealership between Honda in Concord, CA and Mel Rapton Honda in Sacramento, CA more than 7 times for the same issues. They have changed my battery more than once, Mel Rapton Honda said it was the Lo Jack I had installed a week after I bought the car so they had the people come and replace it and that did not solve the issue. They did the something to the Electric Parking Brake because their was a recall on that back in October of 2016. In November of 2016 my car was at the dealership in Sacramento for the same issues and the said I had a faulty modulator and replaced that along with a complimentary car wash because I was raising hell on the fact they cannot seem to figure out the issue. I even opened a case with Honda Corporate because of all the issues I had been experiencing. And each time all they can say well its fixed and you should not have any more issues with the car. They felt as me being a woman that I didn't know enough about cars to the point they tried to say I was the one causing the issue but hitting the emergency brake. I told them they lost their everlasting mind.

I even told the dealer that the car almost costed me two accidents. I would be in traffic and the emergency brake would lock up automatically to where the person behind me in traffic has almost rear ended me. When I told this to Honda Corporate they just brushed it off as nothing major is wrong with the car. I have a special need son that I have to drive around in this car and I have two other sons who are not really experienced drivers who sometimes drive my car. I informed corporate that this car is going to cause a serious accident and that they need to do something about it. They stated that no one else has complained to Honda about any of the issues I have experienced and informed them that if they GOOGLE online 2016 Honda Civic Electrical Issues they will find that other people have experienced some of the same exact issues. I even informed them that their is a Honda Forum that people made their complaints.

Well I am here to let those who are having these same exact issues with their car to keep pressing the issue with Honda Corporate. I am now seeking an attorney. On April 16 Easter Sunday, I experienced the issue again while on my way home from the store my brake light came on and my radio started making a ding, ding noise. By the time I pulled into my garage my dashboard lit up with all the error messages, my lights in the car started blinking off and on the radio completely shut down and the emergency brake locked up. I was furious because here it is Easter Sunday and me and my sons were stuck at home. We couldn't go to church, go visit family or anything. The following day I had it towed to Honda in Concord. They kept my car for a little over a week to tell me that it was my Alternator and the Battery Sensor needs to be replaced. I told them that that is not the issue. The problem is more serious than the battery, battery sensor, alternator and all the other BS they changed in my car. This is an electrical issue that is probably draining the battery & alternator but this is more complicated and costly and I feel Honda does not want to take the time to get to the root of the problem. Well I picked my car up the following Monday, April 24th. I expressed my concerns about the problem and how I don't feel safe and that the problem is still not fixed. Three days later April 27th, 2017 I was leaving my home in Antioch, CA on my way to work in Sacramento, CA when my car started having issues again. I was on Highway 4 in Concord when my brake light came on and the error messages were lighting up across my dashboard. As I was trying to get over to the 3rd lane from the slow lane my steering wheel locked up and I had no brakes. As I am trying to pump the brakes to stop the car kept going and before I knew it I slammed into the back of someone's pickup truck. I have added pictures to the damage of my car. I have also posted a video of the error messages that displayed across the dashboard on YouTube. You can find it under "My 2016 Honda Civic - Continuous Electrical Issues". I am looking at seeking an attorney. I Thank God that it wasn't my sons driving they may had not know what to do and their injuries could have been way more serious than minds.......If you know of anyone looking to purchase a 2016 Honda Civic tell them go to Nissan.

Our 2016 Honda Civic Touring Car Emergency braking system from time to time would not work properly when operating under normal circumstances. Took the car into the dealership in Scottsdale, Arizona called Right Honda. They took the car twice to help fix the problem with the auto braking system. Nevertheless, Right Honda drove the car around 81 miles an hour. We have a GPS tracking device on the car that alerts us when someone is driving unprofessionally. The Right Honda was shown and asked why they drove our car so fast at an unprofessional speed on a public street in Arizona. The service manager just told me it was for testing purposes, to get the car to react. We told them that it was very unprofessional to drive our car at such high speeds and they added that if we do not like it we can take our car somewhere else in the future. We also let Honda America know about the problem and they just told us that they are not responsible for Right Honda’s actions for their unprofessional actions.

The good note is that we think Right Honda might have finally fixed the Emergency Braking System problems we were having, when our 2016 Honda Civic Touring car would stop by itself from time to time without an object in front of our car. But do not like how Honda America and Right Honda Dealership handled the situation. Feel they need a lot of help in the customer service category. Including, no dealership should drive anyone’s car criminally ever.

I made a trip about an hour away from home today to pick up a car part for a family member's car. Nothing was abnormal during the trip until I shut the car off & started it back up. It decided that it was going to give me 4 different messages. 1.. parking brake problem, 2..braking system problem & I don't even remember what the other 2 was because I was so pissed off. I have had this car for right at 2 months & this is the 2nd time this same thing has happened. Oh, imagine this, the Bluetooth lost its brains again. Once again, I did a factory reset on the radio & the messages went away & my Bluetooth was up & running again. If this is any indication of Honda quality this will be my last Honda vehicle. I have been using this site to check out other vehicles because I am seriously considering getting rid of this Civic plus I am getting ready to buy a new car for my wife. I only WISH I had looked this car up online & I wouldn't have this issue because it would be sitting somewhere else besides my driveway.

electronic parking brake failure

Entered my vehicle. Upon startup received "Parking brake failure" message. Brakes were locked on even in drive. Vehicle was towed to local dealership and rental car was provided. Returned to dealership 2 days later to find that Honda does not have a fix for this. Technical Adviser tried to explain workaround 3 times with no success. This is when I threw my hands up and said that I refuse to drive vehicle for safety concerns. The placed me indefinately into a loaner vehicle until my car is repaired. Automotive Technician tried to further explain how to work around the problem, but at that time I wasn't convinced that I would be able to teach my wife or any other person driving my vehicle how to perform. I further read that there was an instance where a driver had this failure during operation of the vehicle while driving on the highway, possible crash potential. I refuse to risk my life or anyone else's life, because Honda doesn't have a fix for this problem.

Update from Aug 17, 2016: American Honda contacted me on this case and told me that the vehicle was operating normally according to the dealership as long as I perform the work around. I am not going to settle for this response and am looking further into having them buy back the vehicle. Since there is no fix and my warranty will be over in just over a year, I do not feel that I should keep a vehicle with a defect to the electronic braking system.

Update from Aug 25, 2016: Honda would do nothing to resolve this problem. I had to trade my car in and lose thousands of dollars to get into a reliable car. Never will I buy a Honda again. So much for customer service.
