The car was jerky when shifting especially at 35 mph at 2500 rpm. It would also stall at idle after this started happening and would jerk more. The problem was a torn air intake hose. Changing it fixed all the problems. I am not sure if this is a common problem with the 9th gen civics but my brother has the same car. We do go to the same dealership so they could be causing the problem on purpose or mishandling the hose when replacing the air filter. I will be recording this part being in perfect condition when I go in for my next oil change.

The jerky shifting happened even when we first drove the car home. I reported the issue immediately, but the Honda mechanic told me it didn't happen when he took the car out for a drive. My daughter lives up in Gainesville, and both she and passengers who have ridden with her have experienced the issue on several instances. Some 2000 miles later, after I first told the mechanic, the problem still occurs, even when she is driving alone. Admittedly, the issue is infrequent, but the car does jerk from time to time when (automatically) shifting speeds anywhere between 15 and 45 mph. Noticeably so.

We took the car to a Honda dealer yesterday, and they say that the issue "cannot be duplicated," therefore nothing was done about it.

We're hoping the issue doesn't get out of hand, and to the point that her life is in danger, or that we end up having to pay more than we can afford to get the car fixed. Why is this happening to a brand new car? If you are aware of this problem please advise your dealers so they can correct the problem before it gets out f hand as I am not the only customer with this issue.

Shudder/vibration when accelerating from a stop. Around 30 to 40 mph. Only duplicated with light to moderate acceleration. Noticed it the 1st week after purchase. Getting worse and very pronounced during southern California stop and go traffic. Totally unacceptable for a brand new car. Intermittent with econ and ac off. Almost constant with econ and ac on. I really thought Honda corrected their transmission issues since the 2002 Acura TL days. Yes...that transmission failed on me twice.

I came back to Honda from a Lexus/Toyota. I am very disappointed and want everyone to know...DO NOT BUY ANOTHER HONDA UNTIL THEY STOP USING FAILING TRANSMISSIONS. Their R&D and QA dept needs to be completely replaced because evidently, they are not doing their jobs. My last Lexus had 0 issues with 120k and no transmission services done. Yet this Honda has trans problems from date of purchase? C'mon Honda....

Had the car for over 2 months now, noticed this problem the first month of ownership. The problem occurs when I let off the gas peddle at/around 30-40mph then resume my acceleration, the car made a jerkiness, seems like it couldn't decide whether to resume in gear.

At first the problem was minimal, took it to the dealership when first noticed, of course he couldn't duplicate the problem. Also I did mention to him as well that when we are slowing down below 15mph, feels like the car is having a hard time shifting down between 2nd and 1st, also jerkiness in between, not bad as the shift between 3rd and 4th or per say 30-40mph. He did duplicate this part below 15mph, was told that it was normal and feels like every Civic he has driven on the lot. He told me to drive it a bit more for about 30 days, the car is still new, if the problem still persists, bring it back to them to do more diagnose.

So now the problem still occurs but more noticeable then before and at different times intermittently. I will have to schedule another appointment probably at a different dealership and also I am going to test drive another Civic on their lot to see if it supposedly does that or this car has an issue. I've had a Civic before but that was the 96 model, truly understand the age difference and they changed the drivetrain and specs but I have driven earlier models before.

Update from May 30, 2015: To the name Kim D. asking me about the Civic. 1.No, i will not buy another Civic again due to now we are having another issue, this time it's electrical. My wife was about to drive the car but the radio wasn't working. It seems like there was no radio at all. Even the menu on the dash was grayed out. Also now the car is having a hard time trying to go around 20mph like we are running out of gas even though the tank was fully filled. 2. There are a lot of good Civic out there, maybe we got ourselves a lemon because we did however test drove another Civic and it didn't have this problem. You may not have any problem with yours but I'm skeptical due to they have made a lot of changes to this 2015 model including the CVT transmission, my advice is take it for a long test drive before you make your purchase. We will trade ours soon for either a Nissan or a Toyota. I know that no car is perfect, they all have some sort of bugs or problem. Good Luck.
