I have the Honda Civic and it has a 5 year 60,000 Power Train warranty. I find out about the issue immediately after the warranty expires, like 10,000 miles and 10 days or so. I had the vehicle routinely serviced by both a Honda dealer and AAA Car care. There were no reports of issues with the transmission from them. The nature of a torque converter failure is one that is gradual and the symptoms are initially subtle.
My daughter usually drives the car, but I took it out in July 2018 and immediately noticed the 'slipping' gears when I accelerated. I took the car to a 2 dealers and an independent transmission specialist. I asked the dealer if this were a common problem with Civics, and the dealer said no that it wasn't. Total cost of the repair was $2200 which included new transmission fluid and an auto tensioner.
I contacted Honda America in California to kindly ask if they would consider at least a partial reimbursement for my repairs which were done at a dealership. The car was out of warranty, so if they did anything at all, it would be for goodwill. Their result was that they would do nothing. They essentially said that even though I had the standard services performed I was not good enough of a customer for them to provide any assistance.
I have to say that with the degree of trouble with this Honda Civic that has relatively low miles and the lack of any real sympathy from Honda America, that I will not be buying another Honda.
