I was in line at a drive thru and vehicle was completely stopped and idling. I had the vehicle in drive with my foot on the brake when the engine began accelerating on its own. I had to apply maximum brake pressure to keep from rear ending vehicle in front of me. I was able to put the car into park and after only a few seconds the rpm's returned to a normal idle. I am 100% positive that there was no contact being made with the accelerator pedal by my foot or the floor mat.
I am taking the car to my mechanic but am not hopeful of finding the problem since this was a one time experience. It's my daughters car and I have to worry about her safety so I can't just say, oh well and hope it never happens while she is driving it.
Today I had a problem with sudden unintended acceleration. My Civic started revving up and accelerating while I was braking and almost at a stop. It did it three times in two minutes. Immediately I took it to the Honda dealership where the diagnostic revealed no problems. They will tell you it was the place mat but that's just unintelligent. It's scary and I want to know if others had this problem?
