we bought this "safe" used car for our daughter and were told that the car had been gone over top to bottom. Two weeks after we got the car a slight squeaking noise started from the front end that sounded like the brakes were worn out. went back to the Honda dealer and were advised by a pimple face young service manager that nothing was wrong. A couple of days later the noise got so bad I was embarrassed for my daughter when she pulled up in the driveway. we went back to the dealership and after I dressed down the service manager he decided to give it another look. This time he admitted there was an issue and wound up replacing pads, rotors, spindles. basically rebuilding the entire brake system. less than a year later and the vehicle started making the squeaking sound again and my daughter said today when she was almost at complete stop it made a grinding sound but has not repeated. we had other issues with the vehicle but that's another story.
I just today looked on the internet and discovered that their have been many complaints on premature brake wear and rotors being replaced even sooner than I'm doing today on my Civic. I have just under 55K and the rotors are shot and the left brake caliper is sticking so it is being replaced along with the left front axle is bad and is being replaced. Contacted Honda of America and that was greeted with we're sorry to hear that..... SMDH! Last Honda I'll ever buy then. Not happy Honda!
My son-in-law was almost killed after wrecking with a SUV the car would still not stop and lost front tire driver side. The car slid for an additional 100 feet easy. The car was totaled and unrecognizable. We were lucky not to have lost him that day.
I GOT A 2011 HONDA CIVIC IN JULY OF 2012 AND HAS HAD TO HAVE BRAKES PUT ON TWICE. THIS IS CRAZY ...I HAVE HAD OTHER CARS AND NEVER HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKE PROBLEM. MY CO-WORKER HAS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC AND NEVER HAD TO HAVE HER BRAKES CHANGED...WHAT IS UP WITH THE 2011 HONDA CIVICS....I WILL BE TRADING THIS CAR IN, NO MORE HONDA'S FOR ME.
I leased a brand new civic on February 2011 and come December after about 15000 miles or so I needed new brake pads, I never heard a squeak or any kind of noise to warn me they were wearing out. I had to go to the dealer immediately because I began to hear I presumed was the rotors. Sure enough the rotors and brake pads on one side were completely out. I had to pay to get this fixed ASAP as I could not drive my car in this condition. This was a major problem and it is crazy to have to change your brakes after only 10 months.
New brakes September 2012 and now come September 2013 new brakes again. This is crazy to have to replace brakes every year. A little too ridiculous. Again never heard a squeak or any kind of noise to warn me. Hopefully its not my rotors because I just heard some screeching noises that do not sound so good. There goes another 260+ bucks to fix brakes once again. I have had cars before and I have never had to change my brakes every 10 months, that is ridiculous.

Had to change my rotors because my brakes went out just 10 months after having leased a new civic. Bad choice should have gone with Toyota!!!! I will definitely be returning this car and getting a Toyota Because having to pay for brakes every ten months and rotors every 20 months is ridiculous. Once again I will have to replace my rotors and its only september 2013
Premature Brake Wear on the 8th generation Honda Civics. It seems to be a issue with all 2006 - 2011 civics. It seems that everyone just goes to the dealer to get the same defective pads/rotors put on that continue to wear down within a year? I am wondering what the underlying issue is? Bad Calipers? Too small of a brake pad? What is making these pads plus rotors wear down at around 15000 kilometers? It's unacceptable that Honda has not done a recall on this issue already.NO WARRANTY ! I have read numerous complaints by Honda civic owners all over the web. Look at forums Honda. What the hell is Honda waiting for a major accident. I just purchased a 2011 Civic and I didn't realize there was a defect in the braking system.I bought this car so that I would feel safe and confident driving.Changing break pads/rotors every 2 year is not normal at all. This is a serious safety issue and Honda needs to figure out how to fix it. Anyways if anyone knows how to fix this issue correctly long term .

We also have a 2011 Civic that the brakes had to be replaced at only 22,000 miles. Dealer just shrugged their shoulders and Honda North America basically blew me off. I have never replaced brakes this early, in fact my rear brakes on my Toyota lasted over 100,000 miles. This was my 1st and most likely last Honda if Honda continues to ignore this problem.

A year and half after buying my new car I have huge repair bill for brakes.
The shop said they were sticking, causing the brakes not to disengage as they should. Since it is brakes it is not covered under warranty. So what?! I have to buy new brakes every year and half on my 'reliable' car! insane!!
The shop tried to blame it on possible lots of stop and go driving. My car has 30000 miles on it, due to the numerous 300mile freeway runs I make a month. SORRY no stopping and going, try again Honda. Something is wrong and you should take car of it.
My boyfriend and his father have stopped shopping for Honda's. I had planned on replacing mine down the road with a newer model. I'd like to stick with a company that takes care of their customers.

I just purchased this vehicle last year on February 14th 2011 as a Brand New Lease and come to find out when I brought this vehicle in to your service department yesterday they told me it needed new brake pads already. I was and am extremely upset with this purchase of only having this vehicle a little over a year and the brake pads need replace already. That is uncalled for to have to be out the expense on my part to replace these brake pads in the little amount of time that I have had this Honda. I do apologize to the young lady in the service department yesterday that helped me I didn't mean for her to take offense to my anger of the outcome but I should not be having to replace these brake pads this soon on this vehicle that I just purchased last February, if this is the outcome of purchasing a new Honda believe me I will not be purchasing another Honda once this lease is over. I've never had to replace brake pads on a vehicle this soon and I've had a lot of different vehicle. I am very outraged with this outcome and customer satisfaction.
Front pads worn out at only 9,800 miles. Initially told this was normal wear!!!! But they fixed it under warranty, because they are "nice" guys. 75% worn out again at 16,000 miles and was told to drive the car until the brakes fail and then bring it back. Honda knows they have this problem and are just waiting for the warranty to expire. Someone must force Honda to solve this issue with all their Civics!!!
I have never had to change brakes on any car at less than 30k miles. I took my car in at 10k because of squeaking and I needed new front pads... What the hell Honda? You call this reliable? I will never buy a Honda again.
