I was in a car accident and totaled my Honda Civic. I was run off the road, because the other driver did not see me in his blind spot. He proceeded to pass the car in front of him as I was already next to him passing him on the left. Instead of staying in place and have our cars impact each other I proceeded to go left and was run into the median with gravel, grass and a wire line that I hit and ran along until my car came to a rest blowing my front tire and totaling my car. If I would have moved right I would have been in a pile up, it was rush hour traffic and I would probably been dead.
My seat belt did not hold me in place, the lap belt did. The shoulder strap let loose and pulled out all the way from the wall and pulled the plastic center strip away from the side wall, and would not retract, I hit my chest on the steering wheel and the belt was all laying in my lap, when I came to a stop. The lap belt was in place. My air bag did not go off either. I was very fortunate to not be seriously hurt. He was ticketed for improper lane deviation, not signaling, and not checking his blind spot.
Very scary situation when you think you have a safe vehicle and you find out otherwise in an accident you don't.
