Looking on the internet and the streets, I always can tell a Honda Civic from the 2007-2012 range due to the paint peeling off and heavily oxidizing. This is definitely a Honda issue. It has made me decide never to buy a Honda product again.

I have a 2010 Honda Civic that is chalking in several places.. I've read online that there is warranty for certain models because of this paint issue - I've seen many other Hondas with this problem.. My car looks like sh*t, and I don't think I should have to go out of pocket to have it repainted when the problem is due to poor quality paint that Honda used. I have always loved Honda and vowed I'd never drive anything else, but I'm now seriously considering a different make for my next car.

I contacted the NYS attorney generals office, and Honda corporate. I had the car examined at the body shop Honda recommended, and was told the repair cost was about $2000.00. Honda corporate would only agree to pay 60% of the cost, leaving me with an expense of about $800.00, plus the cost of a rental car while the car was in the shop, to fix a manufacturers defect.

I previously had a Honda that lasted almost 175,000 miles without any problems, so I purchased this one again.

I will never buy a Honda again.

Update from May 25, 2019: I have oxidation on the rear of my roof in 2 patches, the front of the hood is showing whitening, and my trunk lid is doing the same. I thought Honda was a very reliable brand. I am now rethinking it, and would not buy another Honda again. Very disappointing.

It started that I wanted Honda to fix my paint. It is a VIN that was part of the 7 year extended warranty but we were never sent any information. We looked up the VIN on the Honda site about 4 times over 2 years but it never showed anything. We were even at a Honda dealer for the airbag recall and no one ever said anything about Honda helping with the paint until the warranty extension was over. Missed by only a few months. Honda Customer Service said it is because we bought it used.

Then I moved to what I want now. I want Honda to have to fix all of the other cars and customers that I am finding who also were not told. I want Honda held accountable for a paint issue that dates back to 1996 and is easily traceable from their paint bulletins on 2006-2013 civics, another on Odyssey, another of Pilots and another on CRV's. I believe that they are fraudulent in not disclosing that they have paint failure on many many cars and it will show up right after the 3 or 5 year warranty ends. The resale value plummets then. I have been creating and keeping connections with many people and internet sites showing this issue. There are many websites, YouTube videos, twitter trends, Facebook pictures, Instagram pictures showing that this is a 20 year issue with most recent 2016 and 2017 chipping and peeling examples.

Lastly, Honda is also potentially guilty of discrimination. I was told that they would not do anything for my car since it was beyond the extension and I bought it used. But I have two articles (news channel 4 and news channel action 9) showing recent Honda decisions to help other people who are out of warranty. I also have a connection to people in Alabama who are being told that they have to pay half of the bill and a woman in Missouri who was told she had to pay $700 that she does not have. I was told the paint job is $6800.

I would like to help someone file against Honda and continue collecting information which has been quite easy to gather so far. People need to be able to send their information to a single point of contact that seems credible and not a woman (me) on twitter !! Lastly, I have a 1996 Honda Accord and so I personally own a 20 year old example of the same exact paint failure that is on my 2010 Honda Civic. Actually, my 1996 has more paint than the 2010.

I hope we can do this !!!

I purchased my 2010 Honda civic in 2009. Around 2014, I received a letter in the mail saying that the paint warranty for certain hondas has been extended to 7 years from date of purchase. That would mean my warranty (with extension) would expire in 2016. I hadn't noticed any problems yet so didn't think this was an issue. Fast forward to 2017 (literally a FEW MONTHS after the warranty expires) and start to notice some cloudiness on my trunk. I didn't really think too much of it, but then the problem became EXPONENTIALLY worse. Like junkyard worse. I have two HUGE cloudy spots on my trunk, paint is just completely peeling on the roof of my car and I look like I'm driving around a disgusting negligently owned 50 year old car.

I went to a Honda dealership, who put me in touch with a garage, who quoted me $4000. I received word from the dealership that Honda is willing to ONLY spend $1000 as an act of "good will". I would understand if this was a problem of my own doing (negligently operating the vehicle). However, I have noticed this paint issue on MULTIPLE honda accords and civics, and know for a fact that this is because Honda decided to paint their cars in a sh*tty fashion. So why the f#ck do I need to drive around a disgusting looking vehicle OR pay $3000 out of my own goddamn pocket to fix an issue that is NOT MY FAULT.

I went to my own mechanic about this and he told me to just junk the car in 5 years (because it looks so bad) and to never buy a honda again. I will absolutely never EVER be purchasing another honda vehicle. F#ck Honda. I then called their corporate office, got escalated to a manager, who was a downright d-bag and just told me "that's all she can do" and there's nothing I can do about it. BITCH THIS IS AMERICA. When I spend upwards of 20 grand, I expect F#CKING QUALITY. Not some vehicle that looks like trash at less than 80,000 miles.

I would advise all others to avoid spending your hard earned money on Honda vehicles because you will be driving a tin car that looks like it smokes crack on four wheels in less than a decade.

We love Honda's vehicles. We have had zero issues with the car as a whole. However, the paint on both the hood and the trunk is completely fading, making my car look really junky. I normally would let it go, but after researching some things online, it seems to not be a wear and tear type situation, but Honda's mistake for using cheap paint.

Absolutely irresponsible for Honda to not notify customers there was an issue with the paint and falsely claim the oxidation is from wear and tear. My mechanically sounds vehicle now looks as if someone took a Brillo pad to the trunk and roof.

I've been a Honda enthusiast and return customer since 2000. I will never again purchase a Honda.

Honda told me they decide on a case by case basis. They had me jump through hoops speaking to numerous people. I had to provide details of an accident , the insurance company info etc,. then take it to dealer for photos, then try to get hold of a response - 10 people in all were named some of whom never returned my calls.

Finally Corporate said they can't overturn a Rep or District Mgr.'s decision. REALLY!!!

Don't buy a Honda. My Toyota Prius C is more reliable, sad to say so far!

Large blotches of oxidation on trunk & top of car that is getting progressively worse. Looks like someone spilled acid on the car. My wife brought to Honda dealer who initially said that Honda would "take care of it". When she returned to the dealership later in the day, a manager told her it would cost us $1,300 to be repaired. This is the same dealership that we have purchased 2 Hondas & leased 3 Honda's since the late 1990's. After searching on the web, I was very alarmed to see how many people experienced the identical issue.

My warranty expired 7 days before noticed the damage and Honda says basically too bad. It will cost 5600.00 to fix and since you are such a loyal customer we will pay for 35% since it is 7 DAYS PAST THE WARRANTY!!!! I had the car in the shop for something else a month ago and the people never did a walk around or checked on the warranty issues. I would have been within the time frame if they had just taken the time to see. I am so upset with them!!!!

Note, this is a Canadian vehicle, I purchased my 2010 Honda Civic, April 23rd 2010 and noted the issues of Oxidization (primarily on the roof and trunk) in August 2016 but I did not think it was a problem, after I wash the car a couple of times the oxidization was very evident. Well quite naturally I sought action from a Honda dealership with the expectation and understanding that it will be taken care of as it is covered under warranty for 7 years from the date of purchase (expires at the end of April 2017).

I took the car into the dealership and here is where the run around starts, the dealer says ".. oh you have to call Honda Canada headquarters." On the spot at the dealership I call Honda Canada and they said “…oh the dealership has to call them, I said really ... I said, well look I have the dealership service rep in my presence, I said can you speak with him and they agreed. The service rep began the process of taking photos of the oxidized areas to submit to Honda Canada headquarters. I offered to send the pictures but Honda Canada said they require the dealership rep to take pictures of the affected areas and forward to them. So the dealership rep sent the pic twice and the dealership said to me to sit back and wait if they need anything they will call me.

During this process I called the rep at Honda Canada to follow up on what is going on and he said it will cost $1400 and I have to pay half. I said to him my understanding and expectation is that this will be fully covered by Honda Canada as it is a manufacturer’s defect. Honda Canada rep said to me "think about it .. I will give a couple of days ... if not I can close the case and this will be final ... without any recourse." I explained to him that this is our fourth generation Honda and this is another case of Honda coming up short as we had to replace defective Condensers on previous models as they seem to only last 5 years ...

I am quite disappointed with Honda Canada and don't like going this route of negative publicity for Honda but I feel they have caused this upon themselves. What is interesting in all of this is that the dealership body shop provided a written quote price of $700 to do all the repairs but Honda Canada is saying $1400 ... you know what is even better I have a written quote from the body shop. Le t us see where we go from here ... I will keep you all posted. All of their body shop reps told me that Honda is playing games with me ... they have fixed many cars far worst than mine with the said Oxidization problem. 2017 February 13th
