Purchased 2009 Honda Civic as certified with 5200 on the odometer. Have had the tires rotated every 5000 miles at the same time as the oil change. Drove from Florida to New York roundtrip during summer with luggage and kids in the back. After last oil-change and tire rotation noticed noise coming from rear of car. Called dealership and was told need to check rear -bearing. Have not taken to the dealership yet but had balance rechecked and noticed rear tire has less tread than the rest of tires was also informed that the tires are not under warranty so good-luck. Service advisers only want to "pad' your bill when you take the car in for service. Honda doesn't seem to care about this issue as most consumers are just replacing tires. Who replaces tires at 20,000 miles? This car came equipped with Goodyear Eagles. I presently own 3 Toyotas including a Tundra and have never had to change tires before 50,000 miles. Honda doesn't seem to care and probably won't until someone wins a settlement against them. First and last Honda I plan to own and will trade this piece of crap in for another Toyota or probably a Nissan. Will take to the dealership but doubt if the dealer or Honda will fix this as the TSB only covers up to 2008 models.

My rear tires have abnormal wear. The car has barely 25000 miles on it. I was told that the Civic has a problem with this kind of wear if there is any weight in the trunk or you carry passengers in the back seat. I just went on a trip of almost 6000 miles and by the end of the trip I was hearing the rear tires making noise. I might have had 40 - 60 lbs of weight in the trunk with baggage etc. during the trip.

If Honda has know about this problem, why haven't they fixed it. This means that Honda doesn't care and is selling a defective product. It is obvious that their engineers are too lazy to do their jobs and find a way to fix this problem. It's either that or Honda just doesn't care about anything but the DOLLAR.

I too had the same thing; with only 21,000 miles on brand new vehicle, never, in my wildest dreams would I believe I had to have my alignment done so soon into a vehicle. Apparently a noise from the back indicated that maybe I threw a weight on my rear tire, but after looking at the tire(s) in the rear I noticed some serious indents in the tires. BOTH of them. I proceeded to take vehicle to Honda service in which they informed me that an alignment was needed along with 2 new tires. What happened to service? What happened to warranty? NEVER ever have I had this happen to me in a vehicle especially with ONLY 21,000 miles on it. I faithfully change the oil every 3,000 - 5,000 miles and rotate my tires every other oil change. My last vehicle was a Honda and never once had this problem; my previous vehicle had the original tires on them when I traded it in; with 135,000 miles on them and they still looked new!!!!! So, $355.00 later, I have two new tires and an alignment....not cool....

I TOOK MY 2009 HONDA CIVIC EX INTO LIA HONDA IN WILLIAMSVILLE NEW YORK BECAUSE OF A LOUD HUMMING NOISE WHEN DRIVING THE CAR. THE MECHANIC TELLS ME AFTER WAITING TWO HOURS THAT THE REAR TIRES ON THE CAR ARE WORN UNEVEN AND THAT THE CAR WOULD NEED TWO NEW TIRES AND A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT. I THEN TOLD HIM I HOPE THAT THIS IS ALL COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE CAR CERTIFIED WITH 9,100 MILES ON IT AND IT NOW HAS ONLY 14,386 NOW. HE THEN TELLS ME THAT IT IS UP TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. WHEN I TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER HE TELLS ME THAT HE ALREADY TALKED TO THE MANAGER AND THE GENERAL MANAGER AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $305.00 TO GET TWO NEW TIRES AND THAT THEY WOULD COVER THE ALIGNMENT. HE THEN PROCEEDS TO TELL ME THAT THE CAR WAS NOT DELIVERED TO ME IN THIS CONDITION. I THEN TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS MAKING THAT HUMMING NOISE FROM THE DAY I PICKED THE CAR UP BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT THAT NOISE WAS. I READ THAT CIVICS RIDE LOUD SO FOR A FEW THOUSAND MILES I THOUGHT THAT WAS JUST HOW IT SOUNDED. I THEN TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT I WAS VERY UNHAPPY WITH HIS DECISION TO MAKE ME PAY, HE THEN TOOK $10.00 OFF THE FINAL BILL (WHAT A JOKE). THIS IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAR I HAVE EVER PURCHASED AND THIS IS WHAT I GET.

I AM GOING TO CALL HONDA MONDAY AND COMPLAIN TO THEM AND I AM SURE I WILL JUST GET THE RUN AROUND FROM THEM ALSO. ANYBODY THAT READS THIS DO NOT GO TO LIA HONDA BECAUSE ONCE THESE PRICKS HAVE YOUR MONEY THEY ACT LIKE THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. THEY ARE ALL JUST A BUNCH OF PUNKS IN SUITS THAT THINK THEY ARE BETTER THEN EVERYBODY, BUT THEY ALL FRONT LIKE THEY ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND JUST TO MAKE A SALE. I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN.

The car is 1 year old, we brought it in twice for oil changes when the light came on. we started hear a noise from the back tires after the second oil change. We drove it 2300 miles too Florida from Utah. Brought it to a dealer in Ocala, FL. They said the alignment stripes were off and all four tire had different ware. Basically the Utah dealership screwed me by moving the alignment and having to buy 4 new tires and a alignment for $600. Not under bumper to bumper warranty? Ken Garf of Utah is a dis-honest dealer. I would never use his service or dealership again and will e-mail all the people were I work what a piece of SH-- his dealership is.

My rear tires were becoming very loud. I had it serviced and was told that the car need new tires and an alignment. I also called American Honda and was told these were wear items and not covered. ONLY the rear tires were worn just on the inside edge (both). This started at 18,000 miles. (I'm not sure if my improved gas mileage will afford thsi rapid a tire exchange.)

I was told this was due to not rotating every 7500 miles. I have experienced this before in another brand of car, but it took 40,000 miles, They mentioned that I must be hitting curbs, running over speed bumps, anything but mis-adjusted alignment as new.

The Good News? I was told that now with new tires and a correct alignment these should be good for a long time. I even get free rotation from Honda. The new tires are same as what came with the car, Bridgestone 50,000 mile tires. I will report again if these do not make it anywhere near 50,000 miles.

I was told that there was a "control arm" problem with 2008 Civics but nothing on the 2009. Yet.

I will be switching back to Toyota (Honda appears not to care) or maybe even give Ford a chance again.
