premature brake system wear

I had an issue with my brakes a few months back where I had to replace the calipers, rotors and pads. The damage cost me $800.00 which was my fault, I didn't shop around enough. A couple months later I realized that the brakes were pretty spongy. I lost control on the freeway when I tried to brake behind a line of cars and my car wobbled side to side and did a half spin in oncoming traffic. Luckily I wasn't hit. I took my car to a Honda dealer, and they could not replicate the issue and gave me a few possible issues that were not actual sources of the issue. I went back to the other shop and they checked out the car as well and said the issues Honda identified were unlikely related. I chocked it up to me being a bad driver and continued cautiously with the brake system. Last week in traffic again my brakes failed to stop the car in a timely manner and this time I hit the car in front of me. I was ticketed with following too closely and totaled my car. Does anybody know any way to use the brake issue to get any justice for the ticket or even the total? The value of the car is pretty low, and I am out a car.

Bought car used. Noticed brakes were poor. Bought new rotors and pads front and back. Front was still ok. Rear was terrible. They were uneven and the one rotor barely had friction on at, the inside pad. Replaced rotors and pads and noticed it still did not wear even (paint on the new rotor). I pulled the calipers and cleaned the inside face of the calipers and put lots of silicon lube on the sliding area of the pads (see the pics). I was surprised how much rust I sanded down on the inside caliper face. It was not evident just by looking at it. I also replaced and bled the entire braking system. Brakes are way better. I am still not too impressed with the byte compared to my other cars :(

Had replaced the original rotors and pads with aftermarket Powerstop ones (drilled, slotted rotors) in 2014 at about 45000 miles. After two years, the rear passenger rotor had a 2.5in. rusting, flaking, and gouged patch. Rear driver rotor appeared fine.

About 35,000 miles in September 2012 I had my front brake pads replaces and rotors resurfaced, the problem that time was that my car would not stop the total amount I paid was 483 at Honda service center. I came to know that Honda had recall for break pads for the cars which were still under warranty, I applied to get this amount reimbursed but they would not do it because although my car was less than 3 years old it had 5000 miles above the 30,000 miles warranty.

Now by the end of 2015 60,000 miles my car is again making some noises when I press brakes. So in less than 3 years and 25000 miles I have again got a quote from Honda to replace front break pads and they are again asking for $ 200 per tires means again they are going to ask for around $ 500 . I can understand wear in the pad if the car is driving like 50 miles per day and driving roughly. But our car gets less 9000 miles in a year and used to drive 3 miles to office mostly. It seems They practically build defective car to get people to pay for service and replacements

It's really appalling the kind of break problems Honda have , I have worst experience buying Honda . With 60,000 miles on car it is asking for so much maintenance 1000's of dollars. Problems with its blackout taps, ac not cooling, break problems ,sun visors, ... The list goes on and on...worst worst car

This is the second time in less than 2 years that I had to fix the same issue in the same manner for this same car. I love this car otherwise but I've never had a car that went through breaks that fast. It's enough to make me think about selling it off.

Just another Honda Civic brake issue. The same one as previously described. Change brakes pads and rotors every few months. Assuming it is due to the design flaw in the braking system. There was a class action suit which I was not notified of, but found out online and too late to be part of. Any suggestions about who to contact at Honda regarding this?

I own Civic 2009 LX for four years now. I learned how to work on my car thanks to Honda. Every couple of months, I would say six month intervals, I must change brake pads and rotors in front because everything is worn out. (7th set) Thanks to good deals on eBay, I've purchased them in bulk and have three more sets for a little over a year's worth in brakes. I'm super happy my community college security guy doesn't mind me working on the school's parking lot. I've even made some friends that come by every now and then seeing me changing the brakes again.

There is clearly a design flaw in the braking system for this model. Honda needs to do the right thing. I'm looking at selling this vehicle in the near future and Honda has lost my trust. This is otherwise a very reliable and fun vehicle to drive.

I was told that I need a whole new braking system. All though my brake pads are fine. My car pulls to the right, I'll have the alignment done, then a few weeks go by and it pulls again. This happens every time I have the alignment done. Which is way too frequently. I was taking the car back to Honda to have it done where they would tell me their computers don't lie and that there is nothing wrong with my car. When I asked why it keeps pulling they reply that they don't feel the pulling.

I took my car to a service place and they told me that it's my braking system. It's some how causing the pulling. All I know is there is a law suit pending about premature braking system failure going on. I was sent a letter about this issue. I'm hoping it gets resolved soon so Honda can cover yet another issue with my car. I really wish I knew that 2009 Honda Civic's had this many issues. It seems like everyday there is another one.

I'm just really upset with the fact that I bought this car certified used from Reno Honda. They told me they put new brakes on my car before they sold it to me. They meant brake pads I'm sure. Since those are fine ironically. This car is the very first car I bought on my own. It's my baby. I treat this car like a loved pet. I can't understand how it's legal for Honda to sell faulty cars, then pass them off as something we should be proud to own. I consider selling my car almost everyday just because of the accumulative issues that keep presenting themselves with this car. Fellow 09' owners you know this pain?!

I have followed all the manufacturers recommended warranty requirements. I had a brake service done ($280.00) at 22,052 kms.( 10,000 kms of that was a trip out west),and there was no mention of a problem, NONE. I called HONDA CANADA a couple of months later and was basically told to go stuff myself. Simply because of the way the representative of HONDA CANADA treated me I will NEVER buy a Honda vehicle again (or any Honda product, because they don't backup their product.) I continue to have brake issues with this car and I've even told them what I suspected was the problem but continue to pay for their lousy engineering. I don't expect a vehicle not to fail but I do expect HONDA CANADA to work with the owner to resolve the issue. I also had to replace the tires as a result of the brakes holding that was another $270.00.

This is the third set of brakes and I've informed the dealership what I thought was causing the problem. On my report to the dealership it says, " customer states " brake caliper might be seizing". This brake job cost me $552.32. Of the 65,097 kms on the car 10,000 hwy kms road trip out west to visit my brother. 7,500 hwy kms out east to visit my wife's grand parent. 9,000 hwy kms out west again to visit my brother (less driving). That means 26,500 of 65,097 kms are ALL highway kms and minimal braking, which means three brake jobs in 38,500 approx. that's an average of a brake job every 13,000 kms. But hey, there's no problem with the car, it's the way I'm braking, according to the dealerships (who don't make any money on warrant work, at least not as much)

Well I'm back for the third time with the same problem but this time the dealership replaced the brake caliper on the L/FRONT side, brake pads and rotors. I still got to pay $542.38 for the privilege of driving a Honda. This time my car was on a mountain road going downhill at about 100 kms an hour when the front end started to vibrate when I started to brake, an interesting experience to say the least.

The Honda dealership mechanic tried to tell me excessive brake wear on one side is due to the location of the master brake cylinder being a little further away from the passenger side. Hmmm you think, maybe they think, we're all THAT stupid? Now I've got 95,453 kms on the vehicle of that 36,000 are highway kms, so that means an average of 15,000 kms for each set of brakes, getting better and better. That's 30,000 kms after I told them about the brake caliper seizing and about $1100.00 out of my pocket. Maybe I should invest in a Honda dealership, it would be a great way to steal money from the ignorant masses, EH?

Started hearing noise again - just 12,000 miles after my first brake replacement. Went to shop to find my right tire brake at 90% and my left tire brake 10% or less with the outside pad. Brake pads were Bendix Brake pads and should have lasted a heck of a lot longer - not to mention - one pad wearing out is not how brakes wear down.

All fluids were at the correct levels. Tires are still the original tires with plenty of tread. Car maintenance maintained.

Noted that when driving, noise continues even with brake is not applied - therefore it lends itself to state that there is a mechanical issues in retraction, releasing of the pad against the rotor. HONDA has a serious issue with Honda Civic Brakes.

My brakes wore out at only 20,000 + miles. Probably under warranty but since they were so bad and I was already at the shop, I had them changed at my expense NOT THINKING this would happen again. But it has just 12,000 miles later. I am posting two complaints.

I do not drive a lot and do not drive harshly. Everything else about my car that I can maintain is well kept. Tires are good still and they are the original tires.

I purchased the vehicle as certified pre-owned in June 2012 with 23834 miles. In November 2012 at 33035 miles the front brake pads needed to be replaced and the left front rotor needed to be resurfaced. I figured the brakes had never been replaced since I expect approximately 30000 miles of usage from front brakes. In July 2013 at 46216 miles the front brake pads were replaced again. To my frustration the dealership said normal wear and tear but I have never heard of brakes on a small light car needed to be replaced. I've had numerous prior cars that had breaks last longer than 13000 miles. I have seen numerous complaints on forums and even a pending class action lawsuit over this specific issue. This should be addressed and if necessary a recall issued since early brake failure is a major safety issue!
