We bought our 2009 Honda Civic in late August of 2009. We have been driving it for years, until last spring, when the light bulb finally came on in my head. I had been seeing a pain specialist for years, with terrible pain in my hips and running down my sciatic nerve. After years of trying to figure out what was causing this pain, many injections to calm the sciatic nerve, I was diagnosed, with affirmation, of piriformis syndrome. I realized that I was always staggering after getting out of the car. It would take awhile to be able to walk normally, but still so much pain. I stopped riding/driving the Civic a year ago and the piriformis syndrome, with the help of injections and physical therapists, has subsided.
Yesterday, our van needed servicing, so I drove the Civic, for an hour, doing a couple of errands, figuring a short time wouldn't be problematic. By the time I returned home, I could hardly get myself out of it, as you have to climb in and down, and getting out is the reverse of that. Incredible pain, again! Affirmation that the seats in the car are the culprits. My husband doesn't seem to have an issue, I guess because of his height, but I will never get in it again.
I read somewhere that Honda has "redesigned" its seats. I won't ever buy another one. Our first one was a 1999 and I drove it for ten years, 200K, with no problem. They apparently "redesigned" the seats of the model in between that time.
