Okay, so I bought the Civic from a dealer. Lucky I checked the A/C - right away dealer replaced at no cost since it was under the 30 day warranty. Now if you notice a vibration after a new compressor is installed then it might have too much or too little refrigerant. But it's a little common as it gets more power from the alternator.
The problem kept returning and eventually the blower motor had to be replaced at significant cost. The A.C. still didn't work correctly. I paid $450.00 for this. My son has temporarily corrected this by replacing the A.C. clutch fuse. Now it works like new. This has been a significant problem for half the life of the car costing money, time, and interior wear and tear due to winter moisture.
Awful experience at Yonkers, NY Honda today! Very poor customer service. Guy behave like he didn't need my business. I just left. The problem is my car air conditioner is blowing warm air. I had it recharged (added Freon), worked for a week, then started blowing warm air again. Found out that my Honda Care is expired. They're now telling me that it was from car was first bought, not when I bought it. Also paint on hood cracking. They said they extended warranty on paint and it ran out. I didn't even know about cracks until the guy who was buffing my car told me. They won't even extend it for me. Honda dealers didn't even mention it. No more Honda cars for me. Had 4 before.
Honda should be ashamed of their company, such a Brand name they are ruining with Honda Civic 2009 A.C problem. AC starts fine but but when you drive, all of a sudden the compressor stops working. If you cruising at high RPM, the compressor kicks back in. Went to two mechanics, saying the compressor is weak, needs replacement and along with that they want to change the Receiver Dryer, Evaporator Expansion Valve, and of course the evacuation Freon and recharging again. Cost almost $1500.00. Give me Break. Anybody with me for CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT.

So, I see everyone describing the same problem all over the internet. One day all of a sudden, you turn on the A/C and hot air!! That's what happened to me, and led me looking around on the internet. I had finally resorted to just going to the dealer and paying the $800-$1700 that everyone else is mentioning... however, I found one last post suggesting the relay switch, part R6242 at Advanced Autoparts, with tax, I paid $6.70. A/C would work slightly, then not at all, and then again for a few minutes. Replaced the compressor fan since it was all kinds of out of balance due to excessive Florida use (aka 50 weeks a year), and the bearings were shot. Would bring it to my mechanic who couldn't find anything wrong, but drive it for an hour and you'd be in 90 degree heat. Turned out to be a failing relay, which would work when cool but as it heated up and switched multiple times would stop cycling.
I bought this car new. I LOVED my '98 and it was tired with almost 300K on it, so I thought I would replace it with the 2009. After 2 years, the A/C in the '09 started blowing hot air. Because it was over warranty, I took it to my mechanic who worked for Honda before opening his own business. We replaced the condenser, the clutch, we ran tests, he kept it for several days to duplicate the issue. After a year of intermitten problems, the last resort was to pull off the dash, which I decided against. 3 years later, (and 4 very warm KY summers), it is a continuous problem with no resolution.
I am wary about going to the dealership, because I don't want to pay for all the testing and replacements I've already done.
Regrettably, I have to say I will never buy another Honda
A/C failed at approximately 71K miles. Blowing out hot air. Naturally, it was 75 degrees out that day and I was roasting. Dealer says compressor is working so they must "test" the system to see if there is a leak. "Test" consists of a "dye and recharge" where they throw dye in the line and I drive it for a week before returning for them to inspect the result. Test will cost $169 alone. Not covered under extended warranty.
I had an '06 Civic with over 140,000 miles on it and the A/C worked fine. This car has half that mileage. This is my 3rd and last Honda.
It was the middle of summer here in Florida and my a/c stopped cooling. I was in Orlando with my wife and 2 year old child for a work conference. My wife called the closest Honda dealership which was not close to the area we needed to stay in to see if they could fix it. They told her they were very busy and they wouldn't have time to get to my car and since I've had previous issues with the a/c I needed to take it back to the same dealership that hasn't been able to completely fix my car yet. When I returned from my trip I took my car back to the dealership. They call me a few hours later and tell me all the a/c parts they replaced on previous visits while under warranty were not the cause of my issue and it would cost me about $200 to fix. I can't stand how they try to get you to allow them to do additional maintenance when they can't get the real issues fixed.
No more Honda for me. I'll never buy a Honda again. They won't give you a loaner car even when your car is still under warranty. They offer a courtesy shuttle M-F open to about 4pm. How does that help someone that works night shift?
Have paid $108 to dealer to diagnose problem. Got second opinion paid $56 for this one. Both say that a new clutch and coil are needed approx. $1300. I was told that this is not an uncommon problem in this model as the A/C unit is in a bad location. the air filter for the unit is getting very dirty and causes this failure. I have taken my car to the dealership for all maintenance, not once has this been looked at! I live in Canada we only use A/C for 3-4 months per year. My last car was a Saturn I drove it for 10 years with no problems with the A/C. I will never buy another Honda!
We bought this 2009 Civic new, at first it was ok, despite sluggish take off from stops. Last May all the exterior locks and the ignition had to be replaced (under extended warranty) because the key would not function it would instead get stuck in the locks or not enter at all. The driver's side door lock is still having problems even with the new lock mechanism installed (it gets stuck while unlocking the door).
The newest problem is the A/C is blowing hot air and at least 10 min to begin to cool. I'm tired of dealing with the dealership, the lock experience was a nightmare "we can't duplicate the problem" was all I heard I missed a day of work because they initially refused to issue a loaner car.
Now the car has to go back for the driver's side door which I took photos of stuck in the unlock position, and the faulty A/C. I will never buy another Honda again after I get rid of this Civic with the POS package.
We purchased a Honda Civic (from a reputable dealership) because of the reputation that Hondas have for longevity. Now six months later, in the hottest weather of the year, the a/c all of a sudden stops working and begins blowing hot air. The dealership mechanic says a rock must have flown up and hit the compressor and put a hole in it. Of course the warrantee does not cover this. I am not impressed with this explanation, and after doing some research it seems that the dealerships are telling a lot of folks that rocks/road debris are damaging the a/c systems.
This is the first Honda we have purchased, definitely the last. If this many people are having rocks damage their systems, there is definitely a design flaw that needs to be addressed.
