My engine overheated due to a crack in the engine block. This is a common problem with these Honda, it is what I heard. Anyway, this almost caused me an accident since I was driving at 65mph, and the engine suddenly stopped. Honda does not want to honor this repair because they said that the vehicle is out of warranty. But a crack in the engine is something that you should not worry as a wear of the vehicle, this is definitely a manufacture defect.

My daughter was driving and car shut off, had the car towed to Firestone and they told me the car overheated and cracked the block. I found out there was a "service bulletin extending the warranty to 10 years. Honda says it is related to a defect in the engine but will only cover 25% of the cost cause its out of warranty because they go by the delivery date, not the purchase date which the service bulletin states. Honda does not notify customers who are thinking about buying these cars are aware that there may be an issues.

Engine block coolant leak I bought this 2008 Honda Civic in winchester va on 1/13/2018 fro S&w auto1908 valley ave winchester va on valley ave. They stated it had a new engine that it had been replaced by Honda due to block being replaced in 2006 to 2008 because the developed a coolant leak. On 1/16/2018 after buying it check engine light came on and gauage for hot/cold went to hot. Took it back to S&w after calling as they instructed me to. They stated was a loose wire and that should take care of it and not to worry if that hot/cold thing should hot again. However it happened again on July 8 2018 and my car would not start. Took it to garage and found out had leak and needed water pump replaced. However mechanic called and that was fixed but come to find out engine block had a leak/cracked and you can see from top water pooling. Took back to S&w auto and they said yes it is cracked and I would need to take to miller Honda 3985 valley pike winchester va miller Honda winchester va. I did this am 7/20/2018 at 7:00 am and they wanted to charge me $110 to look at it. I work two jobs and don't have this kind or money to fix a problem that was to be fixed and was told was a new engine that Honda replaced. Miller Honda jeff called at 9:02 am 7/20/2018 and was very rude. I want this issue resolved immediately and it should not cost me to have it looked at once again.

Extreme coolant leak resulting in engine overheating. Due to known common defect of crack in engine block. This vehicle is under 100,000 miles. 8 months over warranty extension and Honda will not repair. This should be a recall.

Tsb#10-048 Honda Civic (2006-2009) engine cylinder block crack. I never received a notice about this tsb. On May 23, 2018, while driving on the highway 78 miles from home, my A/C stopped working and the temp. Gauge was up to H. I immediately put the heat on to cool the engine. Then I stopped for a half hour to let it cool. After arriving home and upon inspection we noticed that all the coolant was gone. Through research, thinking we had a bad water pump, we found a youtube video that talked about the Honda 10 yr extended engine warranty. I had the car towed to my nearest Honda dealer on 5/26 where they diagnosed the cracked block. According to a parts person at Honda this crack doesn't have any physical warning signs until it overheats.. I bought my car May 5, 2008, so I am 21 days out of warranty and the best the dealership will do is cover 75%. so I wonder how long before my warranty was out was it leaking? this is a very known problem that has had 3 updates to the length of warranty since 2009. If I had been sent a mailing as they say they did, I would have had it taken care of. But since it's not classified as a recall I had no warning. Once or twice a year I check my VIN # for recalls. Even today it lists 0.

My 2008 Honda Civic just started leaking coolant recently. It only had 70000 miles on it.. I was at a dealer 2 weeks prior to change brakes and I even had them do an inspection but they didn't find anything suspicious!! weird!! because later the coolant was leaking, my car started overheating, really bad. Turns out I was all out off antifreeze and coolant. The car started overheating.I took it to the Honda dealer on northern blvd, NY and they said the block engine is cracked and I asked about the 10 years extended warranty and the nasty sales guy I was talking to was very aggressive and asked to change different agent..and I waited 15 minutes and another guy came and explained that the extended warranty on my car expired 4 weeks ago and I'm only allowed to have an engine replaced but I still have to pay for the labor 13 hours labor..at total price of 1800$... since and, honestly, if I had been aware of this issue I would have looked at other vehicles...I'm sure there is a class action lawsuit about the engine block cracking in Honda Civic 2008..this is crazy....I thought Honda were supposed to be reliable!

As I was driving my car, my heater had gone cold and my temprature gauge shot into the red and steam began to come up from under my hood, I immediately pulled over to lift my hood and steam comes rolling out. I had thought for weeks it was a water pump or line issue and tried fixing it but nothing helped, a mechanic shop finally told me it was a crack in my block. I done research and found out its been a huge issue with this model car. The issue of losing coolant and problems with overheating began in January of 2018.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. While driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly, the engine would overheat, and antifreeze and oil leaked from the engine. The vehicle was taken to route 22 Honda (1480 N. broad St., hillside, NJ) where it was diagnosed that the engine head gasket valve cover was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 207,000.

My car is a 2008 Honda Civic LX model. On March, 15 2018 while I was driving on the highway, the car stopped running and smoke came out of the hood suddenly. No warning lights came on the dashboard till the last moment. Fortunately I managed to pull over the car to a safe place immediately beside the highway otherwise I would have been in a fatal situation. I had the car towed to my mechanic where they performed the diagnosis to find the root cause of the problem. They identified that there was crack in the engine block which has caused the coolant to leak from the engine and hence overheating of the engine has happened and made it to malfunction. They told me that the whole engine has to be replaced (used one) and few other parts as well (like spark plug etc.) to make the car running again which would cost me around $2500. It was devastating to hear this. My mechanic told me that most of the 2006 to 2009 Civics had this engine crack issue and Honda is also aware of this. Despite this Honda has not called for the recall of such those engines and just did a warranty extension. Tsb 10-048 was issued for this. But still a lot of 2006-2009 Honda Civics are facing this issue even at very low miles like mine. Mine has 166,000 miles. I checked with the service consultant if this would be covered under the extended warranty. She did a VIN inquiry and said that may car is still in warranty (the original purchase date of the car was 20-April- 2008 and this incident happened to me on -15 March-2018). This is a big blow to me. I raised this concern with Honda corporate and they filed a case.with number 07506763 with couple of days later (on 09/07/2017) the case manager probably will call me on Monday March 18, 2018.

Technical service bulletin 10-048, I recently purchased the car, failed my motor vehicle inspection due to gasket issues. I found out the same day that there was a recall on the 2008 Honda Civic engines after getting my airbags fixed (due to a recall @Honda). I brought the car back to Honda today to find out if my car qualifies for the engine block recall, even if I just bought the car. I am waiting for a response from their corporate office about this matter, especially since this is a safety issue.

I bought this car used six days after I bought it and a free started leaking out took it to Honda and I find that it is a cracked engine block which they have extended an eight year warranty to 10 years unfortunately I bought this in November and the original purchase date was October so it's one month out of warranty and I'm out $3500. Honda says even if it was one day out they would not fix it when it is a manufacture defect of cheap metal and they know of this problem

Engine developed a crack in the side and a coolant leak. This is a known defect and Honda has a warranty campaign but won't replace my engine due to a salvage title because of a theft recovery, not an engine rebuild or engine damage. The car only has 42000 miles. The replacement has been quoted at about $4400. The technical service bulletin is 10-048 and I think Honda is just avoiding responsibility to replace the engine due to the salvage title technicality. I will never buy another Honda and I own three now. I will tell everyone I know about the risks of poor quality engineering and unacceptable customer service that Honda has displayed in this circumstance. There needs to be a class action lawsuit.

This is the last amount due this month for my vehicle and it was diagnosed with the engine cracked and leaking fluids. I was told all Honda models during the years of 2005-09 are effected by engine cracked. So I have a paid off car which I am unable to utilize and all engines are effected by it, if I do get another engine new or used.

While driving on the highway the car stopped in the middle of the highway all lights on dashboard turned on. Called 911 for assistance since couldn't exit the vehicle. Car was towed to a repair shop near where the incident occurred. Shop diagnosed that the engine seized due to engine overheating. After I found out that the engine overheated and seized I took my car to Honda for diagnosis because sometime after I bought this vehicle, I was notified by Honda that the engine may experience coolant seepage that can result in engine overheating, thus american Honda extended the warranty of the engine to 10 years from original date of purchase with no mileage limit. My car was only 9 years old with only 64,000 miles on the odometer. Honda service acknowledged the engine overheated due to coolant seepage but unfortunately they refused to honor the extended warranty they offered originally. Very disappointed with Honda for not recalling these engines from the very beginning, instead of putting their customers in danger of very serious situations such as the one I described.
