I realize the car is older than a decade, and nothing lasts forever.....however the way in which the paint started to come off is suspicious, blistering then peeling off in sheets and only in particular spots on the car....not the entire vehicle....and now I can see the beginning signs of rust....although only slight for the time being, eventually it will become a bigger problem without being painted. I am a student and don't have thousands of dollars to put towards a fix, especially when ICBC-the insurance ruler of BC has applied a whole new set of rules and expenses and red tape to drivers under 30 years of age.

The paint is peeling on the top of the car and on the hood as well. I live in Wisconsin and I have seen other Hondas about as old as mine with the very same problem. I would urge Honda to issue a recall! Thanks.

Horrible paint peeling problem. So disappointed with Honda for not covering this problem since obviously, it was a problem with the original Honda paint job. Will never buy a Honda again.

We have been having paint issues with our Honda Civic 2008 for almost a year now where paint has started to peel off all over the car. This car is garage kept every single day and is in perfect condition other than the paint that has become rusted. We contacted honda, took the car to the dealer twice, where they took pics and sent it to honda to find out whether they would cover this under the warranty. To my surprise (thinking honda would take care of their customers, this is our 10th honda which I always purchase from the same dealer (new), Honda came back with a 25% reduction on the paint job which would cost approximately $5,000. Please keep in mind, my car is 2008 and the KBB value is no more than $5500. I was really upset at this info and called honda directly to complain, they kept transferring the line from one person to another and finally told me they cannot do anything about this and "I should simply report to BBB online". I was shocked at this account rep of Honda who pretty much told me to that I can shout, scream, but nobody will listen. I will never purchase a Honda again in my life if this problem is not resolved asap. As a matter of fact, I will go out of my way to let the world know my story, which seems to be a very common one online.

Very annoying.

Inaction by Honda is making very mad. Honda hiding behind a known problem is unacceptable.

This was my first Honda and probably the last. I will go back to Toyota...same dependability and no major paint issues.

Called everyone possible about it but was told that the extended warranty to repair this problem has expired! This is the info from site. . . https://www.autobody-review.com/blog/what-is-happening-to-my-honda-paint-problems#/what-is-happening-to-my-honda-paint-problems

> > > > > > > If you have a Honda Civic, chances are you have paint problems. And actually it is not limited to just Honda Civics. Certain CR-V’s Honda Odyssey vans and Honda Pilots are also prone to paint issues.

In fact the paint problems with Honda are so bad, that there are now Facebook pages dedicated to the subject. There is even a class action lawsuit that was filed against Honda.

Obviously these paint problems take a few years to show up in a brand new car, so what are you supposed to do if your car is only a year or two old but is mechanically beyond the three year, 36,000 mile warranty?

I have good news, sort of. Honda has extended the paint warranty for your Honda to seven years from original manufacture date and regardless of mileage if it is within certain years and models and can meet certain criteria. The catch is, the warranty does not cover the entire paint job on your car, and it only covers certain areas.

The second catch is, much like my lifetime warranty article here, the warranty can be voided for natural causes and issues such as stone chips and dings, and it may only cover your car was ORIGINALLY sold in one of the 25 northern states covered under the warranty and may only cover some colors.

But if your car meets all the qualifying criteria, Honda says it will extend the warranty coverage on 2006-2013 Honda Civic sedans and coupes, for problems with chalking and cracking for seven years.

The new warranty terms came from newly issued Technical service bulletins from Honda between January 2013 and November 2013. If you own a 2006-2011 Honda Civic, 2007-2011 CR-V, 2009-2011 Pilot, or 2011-2012 Odyssey with cracked or peeling paint, you may qualify for a free fix at your local Honda dealer.

The Honda Technical Service Bulletins (TSB’s) state that on affected vehicles, the paint on the roof and leading edge of the front fenders may crack or have a chalky or cloudy appearance. Also the roof, trunk, upper portions of the quarter panel and upper portions of the doors could also display this same chalky or cloudy appearance.

The colors involved in this paint warranty extension from Honda are as follows: • B-92P - Nighthawk Black Pearl • B-529P - Fiji Blue Pearl • B-536P - Royal Blue Pearl • B-537M - Atomic Blue Metallic • B-561P - Dyno Blue Pearl • NH-701M - Galaxy Gray Metallic • NH-731P - Crystal Black Pearl • NH-737M - Polished Metal Metallic • YR-578M - Urban Titanium Metallic • B-586P - Dyno Blue Pearl II (2012 model only)

paint & clear coat peeling

About a year ago i noticed that the paint on the hood of my car and the trunk is peeling off. I started noticing that other Blue Honda's had the sam exact pattern of peeling paint as my car so I knew it was a manufacturing problem, not that i had done something wrong. I looked online at the recall list for my car and nothing for paint showed up, then i called a local dealership and they said it's not on the recall list so there's nothing to do. I started googling to see if more people are having this problem, and of course many people were. Someone suggested calling the official honda customer service number. I called them and they said that there was a warranty extension for the paint but it expired two years ago. They never notified me by mail that there was such a thing, so how was i to know this? Am i a mind reader? also, it wasn't a problem more than two years ago. I asked to have my case review and they called me back the next day saying that there is nothing they can do.

Honda knows of the bad paint. They were sued and settled. They agreed to paint cars regardless of mileage if reported within seven years. I did take the car to Honda Oakland when it first started oxidizing within the time frame. Honda Oakland said "There is not enough oxidation to cover a new paint job." Of course the paint continued to oxidize at a rapid rate.

Then today I took the Honda in for the air bag recall. I asked about the paint. They looked up the year of my car and said that it is not covered but they could sell me a new car at a great price.

I contacted Honda. The first representative hung up on me. The second representative asked questions. I mentioned that the hood had been replaced so it had no oxidation. The clerk on the phone said, "tell me more about the accident." I explained the radiator, hood, bumper and fender were replaced. No other damage. She said, "tell me more about the accident." I said, "there's nothing more to tell. No one was hurt. No damage." She said, "So I will write that you don't want to give information about the accident." I said that she was not being accurate and there is nothing else to tell. I asked what she wanted to know. She did not give a response. Asked if I could hold. When she came back she said it was out of warranty for the paint. I told her I know that Honda knows about the paint problem. The hood which was painted with high quality paint has not oxidized. I also explained that I took it to Honda Oakland who recognized that there was "some oxidation" but not enough oxidation. She said the dealer has the final word.

When I was at the dealer today I was told that decisions about covering the paint were "Way above my pay grade." by the clerk handling the paperwork for the air bag problem.

I have driven over a million miles using Honda cars. I have owned four Honda cars. Honda has become a money grabbing company that is no longer interested in the high quality they once were. They knew about the problem with paint and could have sent a letter - they did for the air bags because the government made them send it. I am just so incredibly disappointed in Honda's and Honda Oakland's lack of ethics and responsibility.

I purchased my car used a few years and there was a slight paint issue but I didn't think anything of it because it was a used car. Well the clear coat and paint is horrible now! It is on the back end of my car and the trunk, the hood and roof are affected too. Its an eye sore for sure!

The paint on my 2008 Honda Civic started to peel. After doing research, I found out the paint was defective and Honda America has issued a warranty extension. They did not notify people in any way about this defective paint or the extended warranty. Because of this, I missed the warranty extension by a few months. I spoke with Honda America on July 13. They said they would honor the extended warranty if it was really a paint issue and to take it to my local Honda. I took it to my local Honda on July 16 and they took pictures, said it was approved to go to the paint center for a quote. I took my car to the paint center for a quote on July 22. The paint center gave the estimate to Honda without even looking at my car. On August 15, I got a call from the paint center saying my case was approved. When I went to schedule my appointment, they said it was denied. I called Honda to get clarification if it was approved or denied and spent the month getting bounced around and told to keep checking in while they sorted out the issue. On September 19, I got a call from Honda America saying that it was denied by the regional case manager and there was nothing else they could do despite providing defective paint on the car. I've been a loyal Honda customer my whole life because of their former reputation for customer service and longevity of the car. They have a responsibility to the consumer to provide a good product to the consumer and fix their errors when they are made. Instead, they have a known paint issue and do nothing to address the issue. Worse, they don't honor their own word. Despite being told they would honor the warranty extension by Honda America on July 13, they later backtracked and said that the woman I spoke with was new and did not know what she was doing. After 2 months of run around, my car is in worse shape and I have never been so frustrated at a complete lack of customer service. I would not buy a Honda again.

I was not told about the warranty extension on the paint and just thought it was an issue with sun damage, etc. Then I saw other civics with the same problem so I googled it and saw there was a warranty extension. However, Honda won't do anything because it is past the warranty time period.

paint & clear coat peeling paint & clear coat peeling paint & clear coat peeling

Two years ago Honda extended the warranty on the paint because of an obvious defect. They repainted the car body but not the doors. While the paint on the doors at that time did not look bad, particularly in comparison to the rest of the car, it seems logical the the same issue with the paint/clear coat would occur. And now it has. Calls to the dealer or Honda customer service have not helped. I know that I am outside the extended warranty but it seems that it should have been obvious that the same paint defect would soon effect the doors and it has.

There was a recall that I received in the mail for the paint about 3 yrs ago. I had minor paint fading on my roof. I took it in to Honda and they fixed it. About a year later I noticed the paint on the trunk and door beginning to fade, I took it in again and was told their is nothing they can do now that the recall had expired.
