Honda Civic Visor Settlement - In the past, Honda Civic owners have posted messages on this site concerning failed sun visors. I work with one of the law firms representing the plaintiffs and class members in a case against Honda regarding Honda Civic sun visors. We have reached a settlement with Honda in the case. If you own or lease (or previously owned or leased) a Honda Civic (model years 2006 through 2008, as well as some 2009 models) you might be eligible to receive settlement benefits--including an extended warranty on the visors and reimbursement for what you paid out-of-pocket to repair your sun visor. The notice that went to the class regarding the case and the settlement is available at www.visorsettlement.com, under the "Notice" link in the left-hand column. You may review it to see if your vehicle is covered under the settlement and if you are entitled to benefits. I'm at the dealership now (Brilliance Honda in Crystal Lake, IL). They are telling me it's not covered under my extended warranty, but if I came in here at 36,000 miles (2,000)miles ago it would be. So as I'm sitting in the waiting room I Google the part and see this is a common problem. I tell the service girl and she says she knows but it's out of factory warranty. They say they will see what they can do. After all this is the second car I have purchased from them, I would hope they would take care of me...for a $100 part (that's not cost).
I was so happy when I bought my 1st Honda Civic EXL, fully loaded with body kit and everything and it was brand new 2008. Everything about the car was perfect in the beginning until I use the sun visor a couple of times during the summer to block the sun out of my face where it then breaks in pieces. I am a very gentle person when it comes to my cars and assets and I know it couldn't have been my tiny hands that broke the sun visor so I asked my co-worker who owns a 2007 Honda Civic and he said that his car did the exact same thing where his sun visor broke after the car was a year old. Hmmm, fishy huh? Well after driving my car exactly 27,000 miles right before Thanksgiving 2009 recently, the back of my right wheel or tire started squealing louder and louder that everyone else I passed by the streets and highway turned thier heads and stared at me or my car. I felt so embarrassed getting such an unpleasant attention and come to think of it, I was scared of the noise like if the tires will fall off or something. Good thing my families are auto mechanics and they can fix them right away and plus it's still under warranty and I bought the extended warranty so I'm gonna use either of them to get my Honda fixed. Anyway after reading everyone's complaints I felt like this will be my last Honda Civic. I should have went with a brand new Lexus or Acura instead. Good luck everyone and be sure to pay attention to your vehicle and get them serviced promptly.
So, after reading everyone's complaint I feel as though I'm not the only one! This is really annoying considering that I own 4-8 other Honda models in the past and have never seen such a LOW GRADE quality for parts. It's starting to snap in half on the driver side.
My driver's side sun visor split and half and would no longer fold up to the ceiling. The remains would just dangle in front of my face while I was driving. I had someone from Honda rip it out until I could get them to replace it. They replaced it for free under warranty, but unfortunately gave me the same shoddy product.
What happens when this one breaks, and I am not under warranty? It is a complete piece of junk!!!. I called Honda Customer Service and they "did not know anything" about it, but I see that this has happened to many other people based on complaints documented in http://www.carcomplaints.com. If this happens to you, please contact the Honda Customer Service Center and raise wholly hell. I think that they know exactly what I am talking about. The visor just cracked from the top and now won't go back up. I don't think I did anything extreme to cause this. Hopefully this is covered under warranty. Will go this weekend and have them fix it. This is not what I would call Japanese reliability!

I am up to 4 sun visors. Replaced my 1st 2 weeks after I bought the car. 2 weeks later replaced another. 10 months later they are both having to be replaced, again. I was told at the dealership this happens in this car "a design flaw" and should be recalled but Honda doesn't want to do anything about it.
