This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The car was fine for first few hundred miles. Transmission began to shift will excessive force needed. Dealership was advised to change fluid, which seemed to work for very few miles. Very difficult to shift into second and third gear. Third gear will actually "pop out" at various times. This has caused me to make dangerous maneuvers in and out of traffic. Dealership cannot "replicate" problem is the usual excuse.
Transmission: Shifter sometimes catches (10-15% of attempts) when shifting into 3rd gear. The problem is worse when the weather is cold. The dealer was advised and acknowledged problem but no solution is currently available.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic. When shifting from second to third gear at 50 mph, the gear hesitates and makes a grinding sound. The vehicle feels as if it will stall. The failure only occurs in third gear. The dealer could not duplicate the failure, although other vehicles of the same year, make, and model were experiencing the same failure. The failure mileage was less than 5 and current mileage was 12,000.
With less than 6,500 miles, the Civic si continues to grind on 3rd gear on a day to day basis. Today February 17th 2008, while shifting at higher RPM's, 2nd gear refuses to engage which caused the gear to grind atrociously. Several complaints have been filed and owners are have yet to be contacted with information regarding this. This transmission problem causes the car to slow down excessively while shifting problem is occurring and is a safety hazard for myself and driver behind me.
This problem relates to the 06-08 Civic si's, I have an si) S2000's, rsx's Accord and any cars with a Honda 6 speed transmissions. This is in regards to grinding and popping out of gears, along with a general "notchy" feel. This primarily happens when the vehicle is cold, however it still does happen when the vehicle is completely warmed up.
I own a 2007 Honda Civic si (manual transmission) and 1 out of every 5 times I shift into 3rd gear it grinds and does not engage properly. In 4000 miles it has also fallen out of gear twice under normal driving conditions. When this happens the car will suddenly slow and I will be distracted while driving as it is quite unexpected on a car with 10,000 miles. I have brought the car to Honda and they said this was due to excessive clutch wear caused by "driving the car too hard". I drive about 50 miles a week in DC metro area traffic so this is hardly the case. Most owners of the same car and transmission are reporting the same problem and Honda has not done anything to remedy it. It is widely covered on most 2006+ Honda Civic web forums and recently has received some news coverage: www.youtube.com/watch?V=9ek_-3tfd2E.
2007 Honda Civic si (5,000 miles on car). The six speed manual transmission has a problem when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. It sometimes will not go into gear or will pop out of 3rd. This creates a very serious safety issue as you may not be able to avoid an oncoming car. The Honda dealership keeps saying that they are not aware of the problem. Look on the internet and you will have hundreds of complaints of the very same thing on this model car.
2007 Honda Civic si, complaint is regarding the manual transmissions 3rd gear engagement. At times its engagement may vary from being tight to grinding and may even disengage or (pop out of gear). This may lead to a momentary lapse in concentration and at times a somewhat loss of control of the vehicles driveability when this occurs abruptly and unexpectedly. If this event occurs at an inappropriate time when driving, it is my opinion that it may have the potential to lead to accident's causing injury.
07 Civic si shifting into 3rd gear sometimes doesn't happen causing loss of power at bad times as entering intersection or highway makes grinding sound as in missed shift pops out of gear wont let you shift into gear will be going to dealer to have checked out.
I own a standard transmission 2007 Civic si. I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, I put the transmission into 1st gear and started moving. I then tried to shift from 1st gear into 2nd at approximately 3500 RPM. I had the clutch pedal fully depressed but could not put the transmission into 2nd gear. I put the transmission back into neutral and tried again to shift into 2nd gear. Second gear finally engaged but was accompanied with a loud grinding noise. This situation was dangerous because I was in the middle of the intersection with no power. I was focused on trying to figure what was wrong with the car and could not Focus on the road. Nothing has been done yet to remedy this situation. I am taking my car to my dealership to see what is wrong.
Since day of purchase noticed third gear popping. Thought being new car could not be a problem. It is now 6 months later. Called service at Honda dealership. Questioned warranty and explained issues with car, such as clutch slipping, seems sync rolls are going. Dealership claims it is driver. Called America Honda Corp. They admit transmission fix will be coming out in 2008, but only certain VIN#'s are covered. I am not understanding this since it has been a problem even in other year and makes with same issues! these same complaints are all over internet!cost has been estimated at $1200! even with extended warranty coverage purchased.
When accelerating, shifting into third gear is never reliable. When you shift from 2nd gear to 3rd, it grinds and then pops out. This leads me to over rev the engine. Currently, there is no service bulletin for this problem nor is their a recall.
Excessive problems with transmission. Particularly third gear, when attempting to put shift lever into third gear synchronizers grind and on occasion shift lever pops from gear into neutral.
(1) normal driving of manual transmission. (2) everyday while accelerating from a stop 3rd gear misses, doesn't lock into gear, or pops out of gear and grinds. As a result, the vehicle is difficult to drive and backs up traffic due to the slow acceleration.
My transmission is giving problems when driving my 2007 Honda Civic si. To be more specific my 3rd gear pops out when it's engaged and it seems dangerous and Honda of America has not put out a recall for this.
