paint is starting to fade leading to peeling

I have owned numerous Honda's. This is the second one I have owned where the paint just starts disappearing. It looks like it's chipping but when you touch it, it is smooth...I fades right down to the metal. Looks AWFUL and your only option is to have it painted. Every other Honda I have owned never had this issue.....and I have owned 5 of them. I will NEVER purchase another one.

I was advised by the Honda dealership to call American Honda and describe the problem with the paint peeling and cracking on my bumper to see if they could cover some of it since a previous (although expired) paint recall in 2014 was issued on my car that covered similar roof and trunk issues. After calling American Honda, they recognized the defective paint but said nothing would be offered because it did not apply to the bumpers. All attempted arguments were unsuccessful where I pointed out that the same defective paint that did not properly adhere to the metal hood and fenders also did not properly adhere to the plastic bumpers resulting in the defective peeling and chips. The out of pocket cost to repair is $750. So disappointed with Honda Motors.

Honda knows about this pain issue but will not fix it, "says it is out of warranty". Truck, rear bumper and side of roof the paint is peeling off.

I noticed about a year ago that my clear coat was bubbling up and peeling off in sheets. This car had very low miles, was well taken care of, and I never had any issues with the paint before.

It now covers the car entirely and it looks like a clunker. I contacted Honda and the only thing they will do is cover 25% of an estimated $6K paint job. If I knew my Honda would look like this now, when I bought it new, I would never have purchased it. They are supposed to last 200K miles, but who wants to drive something that looks like it belongs in a demo derby for another 150K miles?

Corporate Honda was very unhelpful, rude, and dismissive about my issues, even when they knew I was in the market for a new car. I will never buy a Honda again, and will be sure and tell all of my friends, family, and co-workers not to either.

We believed Honda would stand behind their product. We have purchased 3 NEW Honda Civic's and this will be our last one due to Honda not taking responsibility when they definitely knew was a factory problem

Honda knew of the issue with the paint peeling. Honda did not inform their customers, they did not take responsibility for their problems and have left us with a car that has lost value and looks awful. We want Honda to repaint the car with paint that will last and not peel. At this point we will never buy another Honda as this is a company that has shown they do not stand behind what they build and sell.

Started as few spots that I thought maybe were because of something on the roof. But it kept spreading. Then I go online here are read about a recall for paint. Never heard of this before and certainly was not notified by Honda if there was one. I am not hard to find-I get maintenance reminders all the time. At least the car runs, but certainly is not a good advertisement for how a car should look. I have a GMC pickup same color that is 7 years older and its paint looks great. They are taken care of almost exactly the same.

I noticed last year that my 2007 Civic had hundreds of little slivers in the clear coat on the hood and roof. I went online and discovered that there was a recall for the paint on this make and model vehicle about 2 years ago. I never received notification of the recall, however, I didn't notice the problem until last year (my car mostly stays in the garage). I went to my local Honda dealership and they informed me that they would not fix it because it was out of warranty. Really?? This is clearly a manufacturer defect and just because mine didn't show up until later because it was in the garage should not exempt Honda from fixing it. I will never buy a Honda again.

The paint on the roof, hood, trunk of my Honda Civic is completely destroyed. It is embarrassing to drive it. It started out on the roof. At first it became cloudy as if the paint was fading. Over time it became totally destroyed.

I live about an hour from the closest Honda dealership which is in Anderson, SC. I received the extended warranty letter, but it only gave me enough time to take it to the dealership for the initial visit. During the initial visit they took pictures and told me they would only repaint the roof even though at this point it had spread to the hood and trunk. They also told me I would have to leave my car with them for 2 weeks, but would not cover a rental. How would I be able to do that when I live and work an hour away?!?! A rental for 2 weeks on my own dime when Honda is the one that caused this issue??? I told them I would try to get a second vehicle elsewhere and try to bring it back. I ended up missing the deadline.

I asked the manager at the Honda dealership if it were possible to get it extended and he said absolutely not. I then took it to the Honda dealership in Greenville. They took pictures of it again and sent me to a local body shop which did an estimate of $2400. They contacted Honda headquarters and told me they would charge me 50% as a courtesy. As a courtesy?!? Really? Oh thank you for selling me a call with faulty paint so I have to drive around like I am driving a car from the 60s and now you are going to offer to pay 50% as a courtesy?!

The manager said my car was the worst he had seen. I asked if it were possible to contact them again to see if they would cover it 100%. He said he would get back to me on it. After that I called and called for months and the manager kept telling me they were waiting for a response from Honda. This whole situation lasted well over a year. Now it is 2016 and I am still driving the car around and the paint is WRECKED!!! There should be no deadline on Honda covering this issue.

I am not asking for anything free here. Honda needs to take care of this and stop screwing customers around in hopes they will just give up.

I received info from Honda regarding the paint, and was told to take it to any dealer for inspection. It was clearly noticible that the paint was peeling but the guy that looked at it checked some paperwork and told me that my Honda did not fall in the recall. Really. I am currently trying to get rid of my vehicle and not sure if I should run the piece of shi$ in the ditch or trying to paint it..

This photo is a small example of the major defect I've been dealing with for the past few years with my 2007 Honda Civic 2D. The roof is covered with paint chips and the side of the car has lost its "shiny/gloss finish" and now is dull and matte looking.

I received a recall notice for 2007 Honda civics for peeling paint, I thought beautiful this is why I purchased a Honda, they stand behind their product. I brought my vehicle in to my local dealer and lo and behold the recall didn't apply to my VIN number. This is crazy crap. My car looks awful...like it is ready for the derby, although it runs well. Such bullshit!!!

paint is peeling/cracking paint is peeling/cracking

This problem began last summer as a little spot and has grown, new spots have occurred and nothing I have done has helped. This led me to research on-line which showed me that this happens a lot to Honda owners of dark cars and Honda does not take responsibility for it. My car is 8 years old and looks like crap. I have owned cars for years longer than this, lived near the ocean with constant salt covering my car and this has never happened before. My desired solution is Honda paying for a new paint job but not doing it, since it was their paint job in the first place. I love my car. I hate this problem.

Honda has problem with paint on certain models. As a result, they extended the paint warranty. Unfortunately, my car did not show any problems until the warranty expired. My local Honda dealership and regional Honda dealership refuses to fix the problem.

This is the first new car I have ever bought. The idea with getting a Honda was it's reputation for excellence. The paint started chipping about year 3. Now the car looks terrible. I'm embarrassed to be seen in this shabby looking car. I used to have a '71 Datsun all through the '90's it never once pealed paint. So don't give me it's waxing or parking in the sun bullshit! It's a factory problem, poor quality paint/clear coat, obviously.

Well, as mentioned in many other complaints, the roof of my car is loosing its clear coat and paint is peeling off in splotches. I have not yet taken any action to repair this. I realize there was a warranty extension, but I believe I just missed the cutoff. Will likely take to the dealership anyway to see what can be done, because this car is really starting to look much older than it is.

Paint on roof of car has begun clouding and it's now spreading across the roof. Stopped by a body shop and they said it would require painting the roof, and down the sides as it would continue to spread. Really disappointed as have been driving Honda's since 1989. There was a recall, but my car didn't show problems until recall expired. Really disappointed. Still going to try to work with Honda. Unfortunately my local dealership has just been bought out. The guy I talked to didn't even know that there had been a recall. Sad. Really miss my old service guy.
