This is an old issue for 8th gen civic's and maybe a few 9th gen civic's as well. Honda said they'd refund the clear coat if they find it. But it's already past the due date. I'm already to late in QC Canada. I got this car used as second driver. Real sad that clear coat is fading and its rusting a bit too. Also maybe some coolant is leaking as well as A/C not working :/

Hopefully they don't repeat this mistake in the future :/

I opened a case on-line with Honda's "Customer Care" center. Since it states it may take three business days to get a response, I called and spoke to someone the next day. I told them that since I was bring my car into a service center to have the airbag serviced (recall), I'd like to know what can be done about the clear coat peeling on the front of my right fender, hood and bumpers. The Honda lady said it would need to be diagnosed first then they would see what they can do,. I brought it in and told the manager about the problem. He said he thought he heard something about a paint issue on the older Civics. He said he doubted Honda would do anything about it. I told him it's really not fair since I bought the car from a Honda dealer and took good care of it. Now I'm on the hook for $1,000 paint job. It's total BS. He sent me a text thanking me for bringing my car in and to let him know if I had any concerns. I answered with a yes I have a concern about the paint on my car. The car doesn't look good AND it's devalued now. If I go to sell, I'm going to hear about how bad the paint looks. I'm calling Honda now to follow up and see what they have to say.

Update from May 20, 2019: Well I just got off of the phone with Honda and it turns out they warranty paint for 3 years/36,000 miles. So in order to fix the paint issue, it's MY out of pocket responsibility. If you go into a Honda dealer and drop $25K on a new car and 3.5 yrs later the paint peels off, you're screwed. WOW. I will NOT be buying another Honda. As dependable as the car is, it's still bad business to not at least offer something toward the cost of the repair.

Shouldn't have to pay to repaint a car that is completely destroyed by a sh*tty ass paint job. They choked on the fat one here and should replace it. Makes their cars with their logo on it look like a garbage. Very faded and patchy garbage. People are always asking about and tired of telling them how CHEAP Honda went on their paint

I received the car from my mother in law who passed away with low Km, hardly driven and stored. I tried to speak to the manufacturer and they said there was nothing the could do with the paint. The whole roof, truck and sides are chipping and clear coat a mess all over. It looks like it's a junk car, though like brand new. My frustration I know they did extend warranties for this problem, but it is now 2018 and reported in 2016. Is there anything I can do regarding dealing with the manufacturer. Thanks

clear coat peeling

Completely ridiculous that the Civic (basically known for its reputation) has had this issue. People used to drives these for 20 years - after < 9 years the clear coat on my roof started to "blotch". I've seen several other civics in the area with the same problem. I has hoping to sell the vehicle in the near future but no one is going to buy a car with a roof like this.

The clear coat is all but gone. (I turned my Civic over to my daughter and I contacted Honda via email about the problem but never heard from them again). I've owned four Hondas (my first Honda accord coupe 1997).

I plan on not buying another Honda at this point. Honda should have taken initative to contact customers and repaint/clearcoat their cars. An awful paint job!

Honda Civic is mechanically a great car, a little pricey but good investment except the paint job REALLY DETRACTS from the car and the owner should not have to pay to have it repainted and clear coated! So much for a resale!

I noticed my 2007 black Civic's roof beginning to fade probably in early 2016. It is now rapidly fading across the roof. It looks horrible and significantly devalues the car. Other than paint problems, this car is been very reliable for over 220,000 km.

The clear coat on the roof of my civic has begun to chip. I know it's only a matter of time until it happens to the whole car. Because my car is almost 10 years old, I know Honda won't fix it, and I can't afford to repaint my car

my 07 Honda civic had paint issues starting 2013. The hood and fenders were repainted in fall of that year. The following year my trunk, driver rear door and top of roof had these paint issues too. It took 8 months and they were repainted in in 2014. Now in late 2015 the issue has started on both my doors on the passenger side. I have contacted local dealer and was finally told this past summer that the time limit has expired for the paint issues to be resolved. Hmm this does not please me at all. I did my research and found hundreds ++ with similar problems. I just contacted Honda Canada today with disturbing results. Was told that the extension was over and I was granted a second repaint in 2014 and that will be it final answer!! Again hmmm...not the right answer. This was never caused by me...the damage was the responsibility of Honda alone. I now have a 07 civic and it looks like crap on one side which diminishes my resale value tremendously. Honda does not care one bit about how I feel or what I want them to do to rectify this issue that is not only effecting me but hundreds-+-+ of unhappy Honda owners. We need to take action to make this more than one person griping. There is strength in numbers absolutely!!!!!!

This is the second of my paint woes. The original paint was chipping and peeling on the hood. After 2 years of complaining and being told they would "take a picture" of the problem, a new service manager was hired and he agreed to fix the problem. The hood paint was repaired as a recall at their expense. My paint on the trunk and hood is now discoloured and the clear coat is peeling off. I have my car serviced consistently and have always parked it in the garage or carport. I emailed Honda Canada a few times and have called and left a message numerous time. I received one call back on a day that I was not home and although I left messages on that person's voice mail, she never did return any further calls. The service manager has said he cannot do anything as far as this issue is concerned. Honda Canada says that it is from neglect, that the car was left out in the sun and not protected therefore it is my fault. This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. If they bothered to review my file with Honda they would see that I am meticulous in caring for my vehicle. The guys on the service counter are wonderful and always give great customer service. I love my Civic, it performs well but is now embarrassing and it looks like I don't care for my vehicle. I am at the point where I am looking for a new vehicle but due to Honda Canada's attitude on this I strongly doubt that I will bother with this brand again.

Honda repainted hood, car top and Trunk lid, refused to address the doors and quarter panel. This was done due to the class action suit brought against Honda. Argued with dealer at that time to no avail. Have just taken the car to a Honda authorized paint and body shop for an estimate. Estimate is just over $2000 to finish the job that Honda refused to do

Collision center suggested that Honda should pay for the repairs even though it is 2 years past the original paint warranty extension, as the paint damage was on the vehicle at the time they repainted the hood, top and trunk.

Took the car to the body shop several years ago once the first notification was posted on the hood. Our paint was only peeling on the roof then. Took it back recently as I searched online and found additional information, was quoted $3600.00. The Regional Representative offered $1000 towards repairs a couple of weeks later. Like I'm going to pay $2600.00 to fix their mistake??? No thanks, just won't buy another Honda!!! Driving around this piece of crap is great advertisement for their product, right???
