My ex-husband had the engine replaced about a year and a half ago due to the engine cracking and water going into the oil. Over heating no signs of a leak. Told the mechanic about the previous engine being cracked and that Honda replaced. He said if he gets in apart and the engine is cracked again he will only charge half and we can send it back to Honda again as the engine is under warranty but not the head gasket repair. There is something horribly wrong with the 2006 Honda.

This will be the last Honda I own. Everyone kept telling me what great cars they were and how they lasted forever, this is no longer the case. I purchased a car I thought was going to last me a long, but this car gives new meaning to the word LEMON. I will update this post with the VIN number but the car is currently in the shop and has been for a week. I think either Honda needs to refund our money or its time for a class action suit to get our money back on these cars.

I took my car into honda because it was overheating. I had a mechanic look at it and pressure tested it and everything came back okay. He did state that these Hondas (2006 civic) have had problems with the engine and there could be a possibility of a cracked engine block. I took my vehicle into a Honda dealership and left it there for three weeks. My coolant was disappearing and they couldn't find out what was wrong with it. After three weeks of them having my car, I was told that the coolant level was not decreasing and that they didn't know what caused my coolant to disappear in the first place because all pressure tests came back normal. No blown head gasket or cracked block. Well, a few weeks ago, I brought my car into another honda to get an oil change and they noticed my oil looked very thick. Me being a female, didn't put two and two together so I just brushed it off. Exactly three weeks later, I'm driving my car and my car starts to overheat again. I google cracked engine block and it says the symptoms; coolant disappearing and/or coolant leaking into the oil pan causing a thick, viscous look. I brought my car in to the same honda dealership and now they're saying I have a blown head gasket, a $2800 plus tax fix. Really? I had a 98 honda accord and the engine went out at $140,000 miles. Now, I have a honda civic and I have a blown head gasket. Well, gee. I wonder what would've caused this issue in the first place since everyone knows about these 2006 honda civic engines and how many complaints were made against them. I take really good care of my car and have only taken it into Honda even for simple things like oil changes, new windshield wipers, tire rotation, etc., There needs to be a recall for blown head gaskets for these vehicles because obviously I'm not the only one that has complained about this issue!

THIS CAR IS BUILT LIKE A TIN CAN. I GOT MY SON A TOYOTA SOON AFTER THIS AND IT IS A SUPERIOR CAR IN EVERY WAY. I HAVE SPENT ABOUT $40000 ON THIS CAR WHICH NOW HAS ONLY 83,000 MILES. WE HAVE HAD 5 HONDAS OVER THE YEARS AND HONDA HAS DECIDED TO SACRIFICE QUALITY SO THEY CAN MAKE MORE MONEY.

NEVER BUY A HONDA. THERE ARE MANY BETTER BUILD CARS FOR THE SAME OR LESS MONEY AND THEY ARE LIVING OFF THEIR PAST REPUTATION WHICH WILL SOON BE MUD.

I have bought Honda's for 3 decades. Quality was there in the 80's and 90's. As long as you did regular maintenance, they would run trouble free for a long time.

Their quality has noticeably slipped since 2000 so why pay a premium for their vehicles now.

Not sure if the others are any better but you can bet I will look at Toyota more closely next time.

Civic LX 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,000 miles

1979, I bought a Civic and my uncle swore they were great cars. 3 head rebuilds and 6 years later I gave up... the car barely made it over 100k mi. Gave it away. So various ok cars later (not hondas) I bought a Dodge intrepid, 2003 w/2.8L motor. Read up on it - oil ports too small, timing chain goes, motor goes, really bad design. 3 year old paperweight that I still owed payments on. So, everyone reassures me, buy a honda, they run forever. So I did, and here I am 3 years later with another paperweight? 69k mi? Oh, by the way, if you fix the head gasket, look at other postings. The block cracks near the exhaust port - honda knows about that one. We've started the claim process. If Honda steps up to the plate, I'll give them credit..still doesn't cure my '79 civic fortunes, but who would have guessed that the next honda I owned would have similar major engine problems to the first one.

Seriously, I don't know what to do.. Fix it so the engine can crack and I can go through this again? The head gasket problem already lead to a near overheating problem (or did it, but the sensor didn't have enough fluid around it to register properly). The dealership is starting the claim with Honda. they won't pull the head until the claim is registered which should be in a day or so...Till then, no car..I think I'm really in shock. My neighbor suggested becoming Amish...worth considering.

Update from Aug 7, 2009: The head was cracked in two places. Honda covered 75% of the $2,700 bill because of all the engine problems they have been having with the blocks, but didn't say they've been having problems with the heads. They checked the block and didn't see any signs of the cracking problem that have been reported, but the block could still fail. My dealership was very understanding and worked with me to resolve the issue. I still don't have a lot of faith in this car to make it to or past 100k mi...
