I've just sold a 22 year old 1.6 ESI Civic to a guy in Holland. It had done 140 thousand miles, still had original clutch, gear box, no problems whatsoever. I bought a 2.2 CTDI Civic 06 plate. 100,000 miles. needs new clutch, front suspension bushes and shock absorbers. Total amount to spend, about 2000 UK pounds. Only owned it 6 months, considering getting rid of it. I've owned about 6 Civics over the last 20 years including a CRX, all fantastic reliability.

The reliability of this model is easily the worst . These faults would never accrued so soon on the older Honda's. They were much more reliable. For Honda to get its reputation back for being bullet proof, they must ensure that big mechanical jobs, ie clutch, really expensive electrical failures do not happen as frequently as they do now. There is absolutely no way that an older Civic would need a new clutch at 100 thousand miles, if driven normally.

Their clutches should last longer than the old cars, not shorter. It's called progression.
