I haven't had a problem with my used Honda Civic since I bought it in early '12. Until late last year when I noticed maybe one or two white spots on the roof of my car. Now these spots are spreading all over the roof of my car. I keep my car in the garage when I'm not using it so it's not damage from the sun. I wash it maybe once every 2 weeks. This paint job failure is not my fault and I shouldn't have to pay, from what I've heard, $1000 for Honda using cheap paint in the first place. I know there was a recall in 2013 but it's expired now. And I didn't have this problem then. Not amused at all. Extend the warranty please. I expected everything to be fine and fixed with my car when I first bought it. Yea a few mechanical problems are expected and they're easy to fix but not the paint job.

I'll add the VIN when I get a chance...

The paint is creating crow's feet all over the hood and the quarter panels. Took it for an estimate and the paint guys showed me that it is a paint failure, pulling apart in all directions. Would be at least $5-6K to repaint. Ouch.

I have a 2006 Honda Civic I purchased for my daughter to drive to school thinking that buying a Honda would be a good choice. The little car runs good but the paint on the top and rear deck is pealing. It started last year but it is getting worst. I looked on the Honda site and also contacted my dealer but so far Honda is not taking ownership in this problem. I have been seeing a lot of talk about this problem with other Honda cars and Honda has fixed some civics but hers is not on the recall list. I don't want to pay for a paint job.

I love my Honda and we are a huge Honda family, we all own Hondas but the last three Hondas have had paint/peeling problems and it's quite embarrassing, it looks ghetto. Other than that the rest of the paint is good... it is only on the roof area.

Can I take it to a Honda Dealership and have them paint that area? I am not asking to paint my whole car, just the roof which is small, it shouldn't be much for them to do.

Who do I contact for this?

The paint on this vehicle is horrible. I purchased the vehicle brand new, with the tape still on. Within 3 years the paint was starting to fade. Brought the vehicle to a Honda dealership and told it was normal wear and tear. At this point with the vehicle going on 9 years old, there is hardly any areas that are not peeling. It is awful and embarrassing to have such a nice vehicle look so bad. A Honda has been NO help at all when trying to address the issue with them. I have been to get several appraisals to have the vehicle repainted and the $4000 to have the issue corrected is something Honda should be covering. They know its an issue and it should have been corrected a long time ago.

Paint starting peeling in 2013 on the back portion of the roof of the vehicle and has spread over a larger part of the roof and now peeling on the top of the trunk. It is something I have never heard of or seen on other vehicles. It has never occurred on any other vehicles I have owned.

Contacted Honda Canada last week to check on any reported issues or recalls and was not given any information concerning the 7 year extended warranty on some paint colors nor was my concern about this problem taken any further. I was told I could go to a dealership to have the source of the peeling diagnosed.

A friend has the exact same problem on her 2002 Honda Civic which I mentioned to the customer service rep on my call to Honda Canada and that comment was not addressed.

Today I decided to Google the paint problem and have come across other sites indicating this is a common problem on several Honda models including the year and model of mine.

It is so ugly and unsightly and has taken away the pride and pleasure of driving a Honda for me. I am embarrassed driving and parking the vehicle as it looks pathetic. This experience and lack of concern by Honda Canada leads me to consider purchasing anything but a Honda next year.

My 2006 Honda Civic has less than 80,000 miles on it, and the roof looks like that of a car made in the 80s-90s. The clear coat has completely worn off the roof leading to the paint peeling in several spots. The car is extremely unattractive and making it difficult to sell. Honda dealerships will not cover this because it is not under "warranty" and want to charge $1000+ to have this fixed. This car is parked more often then not, and was bought brand new 9/18/2006. There is no reason for it to look this worn out and old!

I received a letter about a paint recall from Honda in Feb 2014 stating if you are having issues with paint then bring to dealer for free fix. At the time my vehicle did not show any paint problems but as of Sept 2014 I noticed white spots on the roof and a spider web design on the hood. I called Honda and mentioned the recall number which I was informed the recall had expired in April 2014. Honda instructed me to take my vehicle to the dealer for review and if it qualified for the recall to have the service manager submit a request for assistance or a waiver since the date has passed. I have an appointment for October 27, 2014 with my service dealer and will have to see what happens from there.

I wash and wax my car as soon as it's dirty and especially do a major winterize treatment every winter and I think I take care of it very well but for the paint to start doing what it is doing will be bad advertisement for Honda as I drive around in a car that looks new except for the paint blemishes and even though it's less than 10 years old it should not look like the old Toyotas that used to crack and rust. Hopefully Honda stands by their name as known for and takes care of this issue. I will provide an update after the resolution is final.

Within 2 weeks of buying the car (bought it used at Penske Honda in Ontario, CA), the clear coat started flaking. Within a year, the paint on the roof started turning white. I took it back to the dealership where I was told that it was normal wear and tear (the car was all of 3 years old at this point) and that I should keep it "waxed". Needless to say, the paint is now turning white in several places on the roof AND the hood. Being it is a red car, it is extremely noticeable and very unsightly. It doesn't have anything to do with wax, sun, bird poop or anything else other than the cheapest paint possible was used to paint the car at the factory.

It's a shame that Honda has not come clean with the fact that they used cheap materials and they should be liable for a new paint job.

While I appreciate that Honda did cover repainting certain areas of my car, the dealership would not authorize the hood paint because he felt it wasn't that bad. 6 months later it the entire front of the hood is almost white instead of blue. Not happy.

This is a 2006 Honda Civic LX that started to have whitish spot on the roof and little cracks on the engine hood of my car. Back in 2009 the cracks started on the engine hood, then in 2011 I found whitish spots on my roof that have just exploded into flaking/pealing of paint and finishing coat on the car. I have found that many people are having the same problem but the car company will not do anything to repair the problem stating that it is past the warranty. The most common excuses they use is....1, Don't wash your car too much. 2, Keep it out of the sun. 3, Keep bird poop off the car. 4, Don't use harsh wax on the car.

I bought a brand new blue 2 door Honda-Civic 2006 in the fall of 2005. I just fell in love with it at first sight! I've had so many recalls on my car since then! Surely, all the prior repairs had been done on recall or on warranty.

Right now I am so embarrassed to drive the car which paint has been peeling off the roof and the adjoining area.

I know now that the paint Honda had used on my car was defective.

I request Honda producers to look at this problem seriously, and offer me free of charge resolution to this problem.

I have a 2006 honda civic ex. It was like overnight I noticed the top of the car looked faded. When I got close I noticed 3 patches on the roof of the car before the moon roof that has white patches of paint peeling but looks like top coat. The patches are on the roof. Right above the windshield, before the moon roof, that part of the roof I have 2 large patches with top coating pealing..... After the moon roof is another patch of paint peeling 1 large one. The trunk is now starting to lose its color with white patches. I was told by Honda once they looked at the car that there was a extended warranty on the car for 7 1/2 years, they don't use the word recall anymore. They took pictures and would contact me. The Natick Location in Mass. When I called the dealership told me I would be covered but once I arrived I was told differently. After 4 days they Mike at Honda Dealership leaves me a message and tells me Honda would not cover this. Once I left the Dealership we went on a web-site to find out about this lawsuit going on with my car. I never received a letter telling me of this Extended warranty. I am looking for Honda to take car of this problem that they knew about and doesn't matter extended warranty should be life time of that car. I love this car and expect Honda to do the right thing. Whatever Honda used on this car that is causing all these problems they should address each and everyone of these to keep the good name of Honda.

I expect this will be resolved within a months time.

Just do the right thing.

I have owned car since it was new, when taken in for service told then about the paint problem and got the the run around from dealers, fix soon, will look into it even it was normal. Asked to have it checked to get fixed in November and was told it wold be covered for repair, told to return, returned in January and now its not covered. Sad I was going to buy another Honda product , now I don't know if I am after all this run around and nothing done to fix their problem. Bad customer service from Honda and dealer.

The clearcoat has completely come off the car which was washed and waxed regularly. I now have 270,000 miles on my car and it runs like a charm, but it is embarrassing to drive. Took it to the dealer and they thought it had been damaged in the factory, but will offer no fix. It appears that this issue is extreme and Honda needs to recall and fix the problem.
