I have a used 2006 Honda Civic. My driver side visor separated into 2 pieces and wouldn't fold up. When I replaced it the stem on the old visor had a date of manufacture tag with a 2007 date on it so apparently this is the second time in less than 56,000 miles. I'm sure it won't be the last time. I'm a mechanical engineer and I looked at how this thing is designed and its made to fail if it gets warm and the plastic softens. Obviously in summer that happens to visors...SHOCKING...how could Honda have anticipated that.

Sun visors on both driver and passenger sides constantly split open causing them to hang down (unable to put sun visor up) blocking line of sight. Visors have been replaced once under warranty but continually break. Forced to drive with hanging visor blocking line of sight or driving with no visor at all risking sun blinding at certain time of the day. Upon looking at forums online I've noticed that several, several people have this same issue. Visors appear to be melting with heat from sun. Bad design since the visor will obviously be exposed to the sun.

The driver side visor broke and does not stay up. This is the third broken visor within 50k mi. The two prior were repaired under warranty. I haven't asked the dealer to fix this one yet.

Both my visors won't fold up and I'm unable to see out the windshield safely when driving on a hot day. When I push it off to the side; I can't see out the side window. I've had the passenger side visor replaced when it was under warranty. I called Honda and they don't see this as a safety problem and said I would have to replace it at my expense. This is definitely a design flaw and a safety hazard. When you can't position the visor in a way that it's not blocking your vision when driving is not only stressful, but unsafe.

Honda needs to recall these visors. I've owned Toyota for many years and have never had visor problems. My husband had a 1999 Honda and never had visor problems. Why don't Honda replace the visor with 1999 parts? I want my visors replaced by Honda because the part is defective, and should be their responsibily and their dollar, not mine. Do I have to have a car accident because the visor is blocking my view before Honda recognizes this as a safety problem before putting out a recall?

After placing my sun shade,I noticed the visor would not stay pressed up against the shade. I noticed this for about a year, however it was not a significant problem. Last month, the visor failed and just hangs down, blocking my view. I was able to pinch the seam and rotate the visor so it would stay and not block my view, but I won't reposition it until I fix it. The passenger side also appears to be falling apart. This is my first Honda and after seeing many complaints, some very serious problems, it will be my last.

Both Sun visors failed at nearly the same time. Word is that they can not with stand High temperatures. I live in Georgia and it's definitely HOT this year, but I have not heard of any other cars having this problem. They should re-design the Sun visors as this could be a driving hazard!

The driver's side sun visor which I RARELY ever used, just started drooping one day. I could not get it to stay in the UP position. It flopped in my face and being tall....blocked my view when driving and I had no choice but to have it repaired. I called Honda because I had seen so many complaints online about the same thing and they said they don't recall if it's not a safety issue. I felt it was a safety issue.... I had to hold it up out of my way at every traffic light in order to see the light change...and it conked me in the head all the time as I got in and out of the car!

Update from May 24, 2013: There was a class action suit for this problem and so I was reimbursed for the repair. BUT while waiting for the check to arrive it BROKE AGAIN! Took it to Honda dealership and they did fix it this time without charging me.

This will be the fifth sun visor on the driver's side for a 5 year old car. The passenger side is on it's second. Seems to be the heat weakens the cheap plastic on the visor and the steel spring metal on the inside breaks it apart. Replaced two under warranty. The third I was given a hard time by the warranty manager at Honda, but they picked up half the cost. Had to have them install it and they took 2 hours for a 2 minute job. I will just by the replacement and install myself. I have been a loyal Honda guy for 20 years, but after the cheapness of the Civic interior I am looking at other manufacturers.

OK--so I'm on my 5th set of sun visors and AGAIN now that the weather is HOT, the sun visors have become useless!! Although the Honda dealership has replaced them at no cost (with much resistance), they have replaced the broken visors with the same "design flawed' visors. So... each year I need these suckers replaced, because the broken visors are truly a pain in the A--!!!

When is HONDA going to realize that their reputation of being reliable and dependable is going down the drain fast!! Come on Honda, you need to get a grip and fast. I vow to never buy another Honda again--right now I am dealing with the cracked engine problem that Honda is failing to recall inspite of the thousands of complaints! Shame on you Honda!

couple of month back driver side visor got hard to operate and final broke and now id hanging down half way and partially blocks the view. a week or two after that the passenger side broke! I tried to replace it under warranty but Honda dealer did not accept, they told me that it cost $70.00 each!!!!!. This is a pure case of design flow and Honda should honor that and not only replace the bad ones but also come up with a better design. This is not expected from Honda.

Within the last couple of months, BOTH sun visors have broken due to heat. Niether visor will stay full-up or fulldown. Both are rendered unusable and my husband had to remove both of them for my safety to be able to see the road.

Update from Jul 20, 2010: July 15, 2010. BOTH Sunvisors have now failed. Yes the are cheap. The heat build up in the vehicle while setting was not taken into consideration when Honda designed these crapy plastic pieces of junk. Guess I'll go to a hardware store and buy 'extension' bolts and fix them permanently, myself.

My very first problem/complaint concerning this 2006 Honda was the 'lock-up' in fourth gear. I'm still waiting for the transmission to fail. Then the car goes to the junk yard and NO MORE HONDAs' FOR ME.

I used to own a 01 Honda Civic that I loved. No problems at all with 140K miles on it. Unfortunately my daughter totaled it in an accident. So since I had such a great car I went looking for another used Civic with the same body style which was up to 2005. Could not find a decent looking used car in the same body style so I went newer and bought a 2006 Honda Civic. Already have had more problems with this car then my much older car. Problem with the A/C (hopefully will not get worse). May have a problem with the transmission (again hopefully will not get worse). Had an issue with the gas cap (seems okay for now). Now the driver side visor totally splits. I knew they were cheap visors from the moment that I sat in the car, but I did not think that it would fall apart. The interior trim is just much cheaper looking and feeling than the old 2001 car. Will be contacting the dealer to see what they have to say about this. At this point I have only owned this car 8 months and I am on the fourth problem. Very disappointed!!

Problem was't fixed in the last 3 years (poor design and poor warranty fix). I had the sun visor changed 2 times for the passenger side and once for the driver side. Once under warranty two other times as a dealership curtsey.

The "spine" of the passenger side sun visor split. Visor won't stay up, won't stay down. Try to position it in a neutral position, whether it blocks the sun or not, and it continues to flop down. (1) Annoying; (2) As distracting as cell phone driving; (3) Peeving, in that the problem is widespread, the part is obviously defective, and while Honda should have corrected this long ago, they haven't and apparently continue selling the same defective part. Bad Form, Honda! Bad Form!

I read on many different websites about this problem. Many people have replaced 3 or 4 of these sun visors. I used cap screws to make a lasting repair on mine and saved $70.00 over the dealer repair. I painted the plastic cap screws to match the color of the visor. This is my second Honda and I can see the quality is not as good as my old Honda. Honda had better wake up before it is too late.

For a car that is less than 4 years old it has not held up to my expectations at all. The sun visor is totally cracked and will no longer remain in its regular position. It's always in my face, especially at night which makes it harder to see, and when I move it out of the way to see the road at night and make a turn...it smacks me in the head and face.

Also, at a red light with my foot fully on the break, it will start to roll out of nowhere....there has been two recalls....the front bumper is not well designed b/c it is especially weak...and somehow even with allllll the windows up, spiders still manage to get in and leave webs all over the place.

I WILL NEVER EVER BUY FROM HONDA AGAIN. ALSO, B/C THE PEOPLE AT MILLENIUM HONDA IN HEMPSTEAD ARE A BUNCH OF IGNORANT AND RUDE F*CK HEADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never dealt with such awful customer service in my entire life. It's not just one...........almost every worker is such a rude and miserable piece of sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T EVER GO TO MILLENIUM HONDA!!!!!!!!!!

After having my car for a few years when summer came and the inside of my car got hot, my visor wouldn't flip up correctly and finally broke, hanging in front of my face while I drove. I had to go to honda to get a new one installed. The next summer, the same thing happened. Bottom line, the visors are faulty and not very well made. Even a service technician at Honda admitted it when I came in with the problem. It's apparent it's a problem with the design of the visor and it should not be the car owners responsibility to replace it every summer, not knowing when it's going to break and impare their vision..possibly causing an accident. It's frustrating that after 4 years of the new honda civic design, they have not corrected this problem and recalled vehicles to fix it. And it sucks because I love Honda cars, but if I have to keep replacing this stupid visor, I will trade in for a different make of a car.

Same complaints for our 2006 Civic sun visor. It cracked after very light use. Dangles right in your face creating a dangerous driving visibility issue.

I called Honda customer service at: 800 999 1009 and they were downright rude about it. They said this is not a safety issue so no recall will happen. I told them that Toyota didn't figure floor mats were a big deal either and look what resulted!

So I'm not getting mad but getting even. I reported this defect to our IL Attny General and local TV news consumer reporter too. I also filed a complaint with the NHTSA. Here's that link: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

If enough of us do this it will force Honda's hand into recalling the faulty sun visors and coming up with a part that won't turn to dust in a year's time.

The visor is very distracting as if basically falls down and takes away partial view of my driving. Just to mention both my visors are the same way just dangling. Why would I like to fix something if their is a flaw there? It's like paying for something that you know is going to happen again. Definitely not worth fixing if Honda is not looking for a permanent fix. Talked to a representative and they told me that if I do fix it and their is a recall on it that I will be reimbursed. Please Honda look out for us.
