The car had 139,500. This was a great car when i bought it when it had 99,000 miles on it and once it hit about 138,000 miles it was all down hill. I had to replace the radiator twice, 2 water pumps, and the thermostat and the car was still drinking coolant. I was having to add coolant once a week. It is not fun to drive a car you have no idea if you will be able to come home in. The CAR OVERHEATED SO BAD THAT SMOKE WAS COMING IN THROUGH THE VENTS! It stranded me as I was coming home looking to get another car. When I was able to get the car started, it was shaking awful. TOYOTA HERE I COME.

Civic LX 1.7L

  • 198,000 miles

This was my very first car I bought all on my own with help from my dad who is well versed in used cars, and I purchased this car at 196,000 miles and paid 3000$ for it, which was a fair deal for its condition and I'd say I was pleased with my purchase. It seemed to work great and besides the rust on one of the wheel wells (this bugs me considerably) it was perfect for me and my frequent 4 hour drives. However, after a measly 4,000 miles, on my way to a job interview, I noticed the temperature gauge rising rapidly as I neared my destination. It crept up above the middle line far too much for my comfort so I slowed down and parked it after I made it to my interview. I thought since it was a very hot day for Michigan (about 85 degrees) it just needed a chance to sit in the shade and cool. So, I had my interview and went back to my car and started it again and the temperature rose again pretty quickly, ( So much for the "Do you have reliable transportation?" question almost always asked during interviews.) I shut it off and called a mechanic and they told me to carefully drive to the shop which was only 5 minutes away and they would have a look at it. Keeping it under 40mph, I drove to the shop where the mechanic took one look and broke the news to me. I didn't know how much it would cost and I assure you I was very disappointed to hear it would most definitely be over a $500 fix. I called my mechanic and against his recommendation for a tow so I didn't destroy my engine, I drove it all the way to him, 25 minutes away with windows down, heat blasting, and going 35mph just to keep it from blowing the engine up. I was successful in keeping the temp at the halfway mark, yay for me it was 85 degrees and I would normally have the AC going, but not today. When I arrived sweating, hair plastered backwards and in dress clothes from my interview, I dropped it off at the shop, bit the bullet, and had it fixed with money I did not have. After the repair, the mechanic said I would have a great car for another 100,000 miles and shouldn't have any big issues. He was right, and now 12,000 miles later it has been a great car, still running even when all our other junk cars leave us stranded. Hopefully she continues to be faithful... End result, even with all the crap- I love this car and think it was worth the repair!

It's a company car so my boss has to fix it. He used some liquid as a fix but it didn't work that well. I have to put in coolant everyday! Car's heat would spike. It gets really bad when the car is stuck in traffic. the car has been "working" for about 18 months now. It is getting really bad now as I can't drive more then 100 KM without the car heating up and me having to pull over.
