The temperature gauge would spike when I least expected it and with no explanation for it. When it happened I would turn on the A/C and the temperature would come back down immediately. I removed the radiator, took it to a radiator shop and had them flush it out. They said there was nothing wrong with the radiator, but they tech caught a whiff of gasoline as the water came out of it. This would indicate a possible head gasket issue.
I took the (purchased used) Civic back to the same dealership, informed them of the problem and asked if I could trade it for a CR-V. So, that's what happened to the Civic...it got traded for a CR-V.
