CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2001 Civic has transmission problems, transmission problems & more transmission problems. Did we mention transmission problems? And a dangerous defect with the front airbag that didn't get recalled for 10 years.
Although eventually the defective 2001 Civic airbag inflators were fixed under recalls in 2011 & 2013, that meant for 10 to 12 years airbags were activating with excessive force where metal fragments went shooting into passengers when the airbag deployed.
As for the 2001 Civic's transmission woes? Honda conducted a major transmission recall in 2004 & settled a class action lawsuit for defective transmissions in 2006. But, neither the recall or the lawsuit included the 2001 Civic.
Last thing to consider - the 2001 Civic is the most-recalled car ever, closely followed by the 2002 Civic & the 2001 Accord. The 2001 Civic is the 4th most-recalled vehicle overall, only a Ford truck & two Ford vans have more.
Honda's Massive Airbag Recall - Honda has expanded its global recall for defective airbags to 2.8 million vehicles. Yes, the very device intended to protect you in a crash may hit you with .... any guesses? If you wrote down "metal shrapnel", you win. Checkout a full timeline of events over at HondaProblems.com.
Another problem causing it so that I can't have this car inspected and Honda has a recall on this vehicle but they are going to charge me $5000 to fix the transmission and torque converter problem. So they will fix one problem for free but not all of them when there are so many complaints.
SRS light came on has been on steady for couple weeks,After some research i have come to conclusion it is directly related to the driver seat-belt buckle that has ALWAYS from day 1 been hard to click in.
I must take it to dealer for AIR-BAG recall and would like to get them to repair buckle at same time.
I am assuming that the seat-belt warranty would cover belts, buckles etc.Is this a 10 year warranty???
NOTE-- this model has numerous complaints regarding not only front belts BUT also all the back belts have had service announcements and recalls. The very few times people have buckled up in back have been a horror show of buckling/unbuckling and being slowly squeezed by a belt that acts like a boa-constrictor.
Looks like Honda really had an ass-poor safety design team in 2001---i suggest they own-up to this and stop trying to SONY its customers---before its all SONYIED-UP
My little Civic was just traded in last week after I found this site. However, I felt it's still necessary to report my Civic's "life-long" problem since 2001.
The side airbag alarm had been on all the time since the beginning. It's on only when no one was sitting on the passenger seat.
The Civic had been in dealers shops several times. The problem was never fixed.
