CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2001 Civic has transmission problems, transmission problems & more transmission problems. Did we mention transmission problems? And a dangerous defect with the front airbag that didn't get recalled for 10 years.

Although eventually the defective 2001 Civic airbag inflators were fixed under recalls in 2011 & 2013, that meant for 10 to 12 years airbags were activating with excessive force where metal fragments went shooting into passengers when the airbag deployed.

As for the 2001 Civic's transmission woes? Honda conducted a major transmission recall in 2004 & settled a class action lawsuit for defective transmissions in 2006. But, neither the recall or the lawsuit included the 2001 Civic.

Last thing to consider - the 2001 Civic is the most-recalled car ever, closely followed by the 2002 Civic & the 2001 Accord. The 2001 Civic is the 4th most-recalled vehicle overall, only a Ford truck & two Ford vans have more.

I bumped my snowboard against the passenger visor and it put a slight abrasion in it, but never actually ripped the visor open. Ever since then, the visor has been rotting away and the hole has been getting bigger and bigger to the point of where my visor fabric is starting to droop off the actual visor.

My drivers side visor started rotting first. I had it replaced. Then the passenger side started, and progressively got worse. Now I have to replace that one. It looks horrible! If you pull it down, material goes everywhere! I am having a hard time finding one on line.

Very Frustrating!

At first, the visor started to deteriorate and looked like a cat had scratched it. Then, it started to rot into larger holes. One day the mirror randomly fell off ans made it worse, so I ended up tearing off all the fabric. Now it is just the cheap black plastic that is underneath. I have said it before.... this car was put together with craft glue, apparently.

Civic EX V4

Seeing how this was an option tells me I'm not the only one who has experienced this either--in typing this up I see I'm #13 in the complaints! It's been like that for about a year--probably more. I have a hole in the fabric on the visor in a place I NEVER touch. It's starting on the passenger side visor as well and I rarely have a passenger in the car. I'm sending a letter of complaint to Honda about my transmission dying and plan on including this as well.

material on visor is rotting material on visor is rotting

The material on the visor where it is exposed to the sun is rotting and looks terrible. I asked at the Honda dealership if they had ever had any complaints about the interior trim. she said never. When i mentioned the material falling off the door, she said "Oh we just tuck that back in" - so obviously there were complaints. When I mentioned the headliner falling down and the material on the visor rotting, she said "Well you're car is 7 years old". I told her my father's 15 year old Toyota is sitting in the yard with an immaculate interior. i've previously kept cars much longer than 7 years and have never had a problem with the interior trim.
