CarComplaints.com Notes: Haven't we all owned one of these things at some point? Despite being a popular first car for teenage drivers and, as a result, being beat up like no other, the late 90's Civic is a true endurance car. And it still gets better gas mileage than more modern cars.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I was traveling about 25 mph and was hit head-on by a driver in a Ford taurs traveling about 40 mph in the wrong lane. Both air bags in the tarus deployed and mine, in the 1999 Honda Civic did not deploy. The impact of the crash has caused injuries to my chest from the seatbelt which probably could be expected, and saved my life; and injuries to my neck and back from the forward thrust caused by the head -on impact. But, the air bags should have deployed in the Honda. It is unreasonable to think they would not deploy based on the degree of the impact. The Honda body shop manager said the other car hit the Honda above the frame rails, which is why they did not deploy. If that is the case, the air bags will not deploy in most crashes that this vehicle is involved in. This is a vehicle design defect. I have digital pictures of the damaged Honda.
