The contact owns a 1997 Honda Civic. While driving at various speeds, the SRS light would remain illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failure. The vehicle had previously been serviced for the SRS issue, but it is still occurring. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current mileage was 127,583 and failure mileage was 75,000.

The airbag warning light is illuminated on my 1997 Honda Civic cx. I took it to the dealer and they reset the light. The mechanic told me that if it comes on again only thing they can do is replace the computer that triggers the airbag at a cost of about $500 including parts and labor. After looking online I saw that many Honda are having this problem with SRS lights. I guy wrote that he had his replaced three times in as many years and still has this same problem. Other people have reported that the airbags have deployed while they were driving less than 5 mph over a speed bump. Another guy reported that his airbag failed to deploy when he hit a car. In both cases no one was seriously injured but the fact remains that the SRS system on these cars are not reliable. Honda of America is washing their hands of these cars. They say they are not responsible for systems that are over 10 years old. Please help us get them to do a recall. We would not mind spending the money but Honda will only warrant the repair for one year and then we have to pay all over again. Thanks for your time.

1997 Honda Civic - SRS light remaining on a lot of what could cause this light to come on is not covered under the safety warranty. Just resetting it can cost $100 and there is not a guarantee it will stay off to allow the airbag to function. Reading others problems with this there seem to be wide spread issues with the SRS system. Some of these repairs have cost in excess of $1000. After reading so many questions and complaints about it (for example www.carcomplaints.com), I wonder why it is not a safety recall item. The SRS light and problems with the system seem to be in Civics, Accord, and Prelude.

There was no accident, only failure of the SRS control unit of my 1997 Honda Civic dx hatchback (3 door) with 46,000 miles. I'd say it's reasonable to demand that safety equipment be covered for the lifetime of the car. For my safety restraint system (SRS control unit for the airbags), which I've *never* used, to cost me $760 to repair is outrageous! it's probably an $80 computer part.

The SRS system in my Honda Civic ex 1997 went out when I had first purchased the used car in June 2004 with around 145,00 miles on it. I had a new SRS electrical system put in. It has been two years and the system has gone out again. I now have to fix it again and my car specialist has told me that the price has doubled on the part, and that this is a common occurrence in Honda Civics.

1- car has had problems with SRS light for several years now 2- number of things done to fix and still not fixed - this is a completely stock vehicle from the factory- no moods! the dealer says with the SRS light on the car absolutely has no airbags that will work. 3- changed the battery, took it into a dealer and he reset it, still not fixed. Dealer says they can't do anything about it.

Consumer was involved in a rear end collision while traveling at 40 mph. Upon impact, none of the airbags deployed. The SRS light was on after the accient jbut the manufacutre refused to inspect the air bag. They just indicated by observation that the way the vehcile was hit that it didn't impact the sensor to trigger the air bag to deploy. The vehicle was involved in another head on collision a year later. Upon impact the windshield crack and the interiror rear view mirrow detached. Also several engine components were mangaled upon impact. The vehicle is totaled.

The SRS indicator light flickered on & off for several days, and now remains on all the time. The dealer says it is a malfunctioning unit that will cost $500+ to replace. The car has only 38000 miles on it, and does not fall under the airbag recall from November '97. Has Honda looked into this problem for all of its models?

SRS light came on 1/24/03 and stayed on. Took to dealer, manchester Honda, on 1/28/03 for service and was told SRS unit failure code 7-2. I have a 1997 Honda civi with 71,464 miles on it. The part that needs replacement is #77960-S04-N81. The part costs $368.70 and the installation charge quoted for me was $72. It cost me $85.86 to have the problem diagosed. The service repair man insisted this was not a defective part, I would have to pay for repairs. I've researched your web site and found numberous bulletins detailing failure of the SRS system with the 1997 Honda Civic. I also found recent similar complaints regarding the SRS system for 2003 Honda Civics and 2002 Honda Accord. Clearly this is a safety defect that Honda and NHTSA has known about for some time and there has yet to be a recall. This poses a threat to my personal safety. I was explicity told that until I have this repair done, the control system for the SRS would not deploy the airbags in my car should I get into an accident. I am forced to make an expensive repair to a defective Honda component that the dealer should be paying for and correcting. And yet they are obviously ignoring the problem and selling 2003 models that obviously have the same defective components. Honda needs to be ordered to begin a recall immediately, since they obviously are not interested in fixing the problem voluntarily.

SRS light has come on 3 times. The first two visits petersen motors reset the system, found nothing. The first time petersen motors suggested it was caused by low battery voltage. Nonsense, they didn't find the problem and the battery is new. They cleared the code and charged $72. After the 2nd visit, I was told if it happens again they would have to replace the driver's airbag. After the 2nd visit the light came back on within 2 weeks. After 3rd incident, petersen motors stated over the phone it is the control unit which would cost about $460 to replace. On each of the 3 occasions, I stopped the car briefly. When I restarted my car, the SRS light came on and stayed on. At this time I haven't had this problem fixed. 2 of 4 original Firestone tires failed. The 1st failure occurred as I drove the car off the lot - it had a radial pull, causing the car to turn upon acceleration. The 2nd Firestone tire failure occurred at about 26,000 miles. After driving several hours at 75 mph on a 95 degree day, there was a bulge in the sidewall. At that time I replaced all 4 tires with a different brand. Nlm
