Aftermarket AC compressor providers aren't even making their warranty times. This is the 3rd compressor in 6 months, and most are leaking from central shaft. Had the car converted from R-12 this year, and despite the higher pressures everything works well.
Compressors will stand up to 3500 RPM; unfortunately my 1.5L needs to rev to get HP, and this is above the area where some AC compressors will live. I keep losing the system after accelerating to speed on the on ramps. I even shut-off the compressor when accelerating just to help it. God help you if you have to downshift or rev to accelerate out of trouble. AC compressor manufacturers and refurbishers need to make sure that the compressor will work to slightly above the maximum engine RPM (6500) to ensure that the product will live a while.
