CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends. Judging from the identical 2017 model year, the 2018 Honda CR-V is likely to have at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

I was driving to get license renewed when my car lost power and began to coast. The engine was on and I had to gun it to pick up speed. I turned around and headed for the Honda dealership. Upon getting there all systems were lit up maintenance wise and smoke was coming out of the underside where the brakes are. The service advisor said when she went around the car that it was so hot it would have burned her. Service tech said left front brakes extremly heated and smoke coming from the area. Found brakes have gotten hot. Cleared code present C0040-12. Brake switch stuck on. I advised never used hold brake unless I was sitting on steep hill. Tech unable to make vehicle do what it was doing to me but, the minute I got it out on the highway, it started doing the same thing. Tech advised brake pads ok and rotors have some heat spots in them but ok. They went ahead and changed the oil!!!!

I purchased a brand new Honda CRV ex on 12/31/18. Please see my letter (attachment.. I first noticed my trunk was not aligned, so I had to bring it back to be realigned. I quickly noticed bluetooth was not functioning properly. People kept telling me they couldn't hear me or I sounded like I was under water or half the words were missing. I took it to the dealer and they changed the microphone and for a day or so it seemed better. However, after that, now I can hardly hear other people and it sounds like a fax machine or breaks off the call so I can't hear anything. If it does function, people state they can barely hear me or understand me. I took it back to Honda and they said their it department stated there was nothing they could do to fix the problem. As you read the letter, you will see that Honda has turned this issue onto the buyers. If you google this problem, there are thousands of people having this problem. I sent a letter to corporate in California and walter(the regional manager of Illinois) called me back again. He said he works in California" we went around and around about the same things he told me per our last call. Please look at the phones they have listed on their website. I have the latest samsung note. The only one they have listed is a note 2 which is from 2012. I cannot believe Honda, with all the technology they have, cannot help all the people that own these new/used vehicles?" I am so astounded that so many people have this problem and have spent a lot of money on these cars. Walter told me to keep checking back on the website because things get updated monthly. I haven't seen any changes. I will be waiting a long time for them to catch up to samsung note newer phones if they are only on 2012 phones. This is very dangerous and there need to be a recall.

Honda's sensing system randomly displays invalid warning messages. This is the radar/camera system that monitors cars speed, braking, distances, cruise control, etc. This is a random issue that occurs when driving at highway speeds (45 to 65mph). Warning lights come on stating problems with brakes, speed controls, etc. The main safety concern is that system tells you that you have a problem with your brakes, and you have no way of know if this is true or not. You are forced to pull over in traffic and understand if there is a problem or not. I understand that if it is snowing, heavy rain, heavy dust, or the sensors are blocked in any way, a warning light will come on. The safety concern is that the warnings come on randomly on a sunny or cloudy dry day where there should be nothing that sets the sensors off. To correct the problem, you must stop the car, place it in park and then the alarms clear. This system is not reliable and can not be trusted, plus has not been able to be repaired by the dealer, and per Honda information, could randomly stop the car when there is not real problem (I.e. set the brakes as I am driving down the road at highway speeds for no reason). False warning lights distract the driver and could lead to a collision while driving or on the side of the road trying to determine if there is truly a problem with the vehicle. Should system stop the car for no reason, it could cause a collision. This continues to occur with this vehicle.

Driving vehicle home from work, on interstate highway at 65 mph speed limit. Suddenly heard a loud sound in direction above my head. I glanced up and found the sunroof glass above my head to be shattered and the wind created by driving at that speed took some of the glass off and I believe showered the roadway behind me. I now have a large hole in the sunroof glass and what glass remains is completely shattered. What caused the glass to shatter is unknown at this time.

After having a mandatory update done by Honda January 3 2019 I no longer have heat in my vehicle when its below freezing. My windows cannot stay defrosted or safe to see out of. I have to keep pulling over to scrape windows during storms. Also February 14 I noticed my engine rapping badly. I had it towed to the Honda dealer. My engine oil was 1 inch over the high fill line. Honda corporate told the dealership to tell me that it's 100% normal and fine, and oil dilution is normal and fine. My engine is rapping badly, I have had coworkers who are ase certified look at the vehicle and they said that's engine damage and the engine will fail and probably soon. My oil was last changed 1600 miles ago, and in that time it got 1 inch over filled, gasoline is in my oil now. Honda denies the heat and the oil dilution. You must intervene and help Honda CRV customers! there are thousands of U S experiencing this and Honda refuses to help!! please help! I have a video of my engine rapping, compared it to other Honda CRV's and mine is definitely got something wrong!

Car temperature gauge was not heating up properly. In cold weather when ideling would not move from cold position, therefore produce no heat. When driving it at 35miles an hour gauge would go up some, and when slowing to 25 miles gauge would drop back down to cold, with no heat. Car would also stall after it was started and left in park when I would get in to put it in drive. This would all happen during cold weather. Honda did the recall because they found the gas and oil mixture problem. Did an oil change and did the recall update on control panel and software.got the car back and it is still having the same problem with the temperature gauge dropping down to cold and loss of heat, when driving short trips. Honda said they could not figure out how to fix it.

Have a 2018 Honda CRV with the 2.4L engine, I keep getting a gas/ exhuast smell inside the passenger cab while it is idling (statioary) and fuel smell in engine oil. Took it to the dealer they said they were unable to duplicate customers concern and thos motor does not have a recall on it. Mybe it should. The promblem just happened again, I am going to take it in again. This is my family car, this should not be happening it is supposed to be safe. If my county L live in, had emission testing, it probably wouldn't pass, the tail pipe has black carbon on it.

Driving in winter conditions. Car lost power. Engine light came on. Was able to coast about a quarter mile to a safe place on the side of the road. By the time I parked the car smoke was coming out of the front and back of the vehicle. There was a strong smell like something burning. When I restarted the car to get heat while waiting for roadside assistance the dash lights were flashing and multiple system failure messages. Car unable to drive over bout 5 miles per hour. Had to tow to dealership.

When you pull dipstick oil smells like gas, also strong odor of gas in cabin while driving! it makes me sick so you have to pull over sometimes on busy highway for smell to stop. You can open window while driving. I know it is software issue in Honda computer, china and Canada already recall 650.000 Honda crvs heat doesn't work proper either, going from warm to cold really fast, took my 11 months old to Honda they said is normal smell gas in oil. I have their official statement on paper. Not sure why nothing is done. It has to be hard on engine all this gas in oil chamber.

Contacted Honda regarding brand new 2018 Honda CRV Voyager regarding oil dilution. The company says that the gas smell on the vehicles oil dip stick is "normal." They also stated that if the oil level is too high an interior light or engine noise would indicate an issue. Meaning that the oil level is arbitrary.

My 2018 Honda CRV touring with 1.5L turbo engine had had a problem with the smell of fuel fumes in the interior cabin since the time of purchase. When you turn the air on with the air coming from the outside vent, especially when first starting the car, the smell of gasoline fumes is apparent, which is also a serious health safety concern as inhalation of fumes is definitely bad for your health. Every time I check my oil level, the dipstick shows the oil is overfilled beyond what the dipstick measures and the oil smells heavily of gas. After researching this online, I found that there is a problem that many 5th generation CRV owners are experiencing with the 1.5L turbo engine with too much gas getting into the oil and the smell of fumes in the cabin. This is what is causing my oil level to rise to unsafe levels that will accelerate the deterioration of expensive internal engine components. I contacted Honda and they performed a technical service bulliten related to this issue on December 4th 2018, where a module related to the air conditioning was replaced along with the engine oil and some software upgrade was installed. This changed absolutely nothing. I still am experiencing the sickening smell of gasoline fumes in the cabin as well as the dipstick showing more oil than it can measure along with the smell of gas coming from the oil.

I purchased this car June 2018. It was perfect. Everything worked flawlessly. Then January 3 I had a tsb performed on the car, now my mpg's have dropped by 10mpg. And I had no issue with heat before, and now I do. Start the car, within 2 miles I have heat. 20 minutes into my journey, the center vents on the dash start blowing cold air. Does not matter how much I turn up the heat dial, it continues to blow cold air from the center vents from that point in the trip forward. It's been taken to the dealership who called Honda tech line and Honda tech line claims this is normal. It is not normal and the car was not doing that prior this tsb being done on my car. Even the dealership agrees with me it's not normal and something is wrong, but tech line told them to tell me nothing is wrong. This is wildly unacceptable and you need to step in. I am not the only one that Honda is doing this to! in china a stop sale was forced by consumers because the CRV is defective. Why isn't the usa doing something to help us"??"
