CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends. Judging from the identical 2017 model year, the 2018 Honda CR-V is likely to have at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

Traveling on I-20 My wife reported the car just quit working with no warning between Atlanta and Birmingham about 90 miles from home. She was able to get to the side of the interstate and called me. She said all the lights on the display were showing as failed systems. Internet search lead me to believe it was the battery. On arrival i installed new battery but symptoms remained car would not start and just shuddered when attempting to start. I called the dealership we purchased from to talk to a tech. I was asked if she was low on gas below 1/2 tank. Yes the gauge shows 1/4 tank remains. I was told to get gas and it should be fine, some of the CRV's run out of gas but read that gas remains. I did get gas and car cranked we drove home. At 63 we don't need this kind of dangerous situation to happen. Think how easily this could have gone from bad to worse. She did call the state patrol and asked for the roadside assistance truck to come. This would at least have some flashing lights. They never made it. The dealership told me on the phone that this was not a recall or covered but they knew about it occurring. They would be glad to fix it at my expense. Money for maintenance is one thing but I might as well let my wife drive a junker if this is what I get when I buy a Honda. This occurred 02/16/22 so I have not been to the dealer for their evaluation, just to the gas station.

I have a 2018 Honda CR-V purchased 12/4/2017. During the fall/winter of 2018, the warning lights and bells came on for apparently no reason and the vehicle would barely move down the road. Turning off the vehicle and restarting it fixed the issue with the vehicle moving however the lights remained on. I took the vehicle in to be checked by the dealer at least twice, but they were unable to find any problem. At this time the only possible solution that I found from searching the problem on google was a possible loose battery connection or low voltage in batter. They reset the computer and it has continued to occur multiple times since then. Once again on Friday, February 4, 2022, I took the vehicle in for a service with the warning lights all on again. They fixed some extended warranty issues which they thought fixed the problem. However, within less than 5 minutes after starting the vehicle all the lights were on again. At this time, I again did a google search for this issue and now I am finding that 4 years later with hundreds of people continuing to have the same problem repeatedly the fix that seems to be the actual solution is to replace the fuel injectors. Yet, Honda is refusing to recognize this as their problem and forcing their customers to foot the bill for this repair that has obviously been an issue since the vehicle was purchased. When all the warning lights are on none of the vehicle safety features work and all the flashing lights and dinging bells are a major driver distraction. Nevermind when start your car and attempt to pull onto the road and the vehicle will not run over 5 miles an hour with the gas pedal to the floor. I had to pull over on the side of the road which was not wide enough for me to get out of the road and turn off my ignition and restart my car. Thankfully it would accelerate at a normal speed afterwards and I was able to get home safely.

My CRV TOURING 2018 has a little over 23,000 miles. I started the car and all of the safety lights come on as malfunctioning. I could not get the vehicle to back up out of the garage. I never put the brakes on. I finally was able to get it out of the garage and to the dealership. Two of the personnel at the dealership said they had never seen that many lights on the dash come on and some they had never seen. This is the second battery that has been put into the car and the charge was good. The car was looked at for several hours. They did not know what was wrong and reset the system some how and I went home. The paperwork said I told them the car was hard to start which I never said. Three days later upon starting the car all of the same lights and warnings came on. This time I was able to back up with no issues. I went straight to the dealer and asked them to do an ECU check. They said it could be the fuel injectors; however could not guarantee that would solve the problem with all the lights coming on. Had the car all day and came back with about 7 codes. I had to ask what the codes were as they had not been written down on my statement. I wrote them down and looked them up that night. Two of them were under warranty. The mechanic did not know the two codes were under warranty and did not look into it further. I took the car in for the third time and had the codes updated and checked. One was for the injectors which they said failed. The other was a check for spark plugs, etc. to help eliminate the source of problem. Again, they said the problem was the injectors and the cost to repair would be $2,200. I have requested a Good Will Repair which was over three weeks ago. Honda North America said the District Manager would be handling it and then I was told that the District Manager would let the Service Manager at Honda dealership handle it. That person has not returned my calls. I am not driving my car much and really need it badly.

While driving on a busy interstate in the rain my car completely lost power and started sputtering. It felt like it was out of gas, however, the gas light was not on and I had about 1/4 tank of gas. I was only able to make it to the on ramp and not completely off of the interstate. Once the car was shut off it would not restart. We had it towed to the dealership where we still have an extended performance warranty. It was a Saturday night so I did not hear from the until Monday morning. The service tech said they believed it was out of gas but I explained there was no warning and shouldnt have been out of gas. When the tech called back he again said it was out of gas and that was it so I pushed to do more. The manager called back the next day and stated since i have an extended warranty they will run diagnostics. That came back it was the fuel pump module. This has been recalled on other 2018 Honda CRV's but my VIN was not included. The tech acted like he was not even aware there had been a recall.

My car dashboard went crazy, all lights lit up and various problems flashing. Took my car in and today they are telling me a fuel injector problem will cost $2,500 to repair. That they have never seen this. However, when doing research the 2017-2018 Honda CRVs are having issues with this and yet a safety recall hasn't been issued." This is my 3rd Honda and will probably be my last. Very disappointed in this one. Nothing but issues. Tire pressure monitor system is screwed up as well that started after it was a week old. If a vehicle is having issues, why isn't a recall been made"

All warning lights come on as a result of this issue. Vehicle has under 100k miles on it. As a result, when operating vehicle, many safety features are unable to be used: Tire Pressure Monitoring System Adaptive Cruise Control Braking System Failure Power Steering Failure Vehicle Stability Assist and a myriad of other warning lights. This makes this vehicle, purchased for many of these safety features, UNSAFE and a hazard. Fuel injectors should not be failing so early in the life cycle of a vehicle. Speaking with Service Advisors at the dealership this is a manufacturing issue with other models, but not with this model. Research on the internet and Honda forums indicates this is a KNOWN ISSUE which Honda REFUSES to make right. Instead consumers are forced to pay outrageous repair fees and usually only at their dealerships due to the specialty of the parts involved. Honda should be addressing this manufacturing issue rather than forcing consumers to pay for their mistakes with a virtually brand new car.

Car suddenly lost power and dash lights came on while I was passing a large truck, legally, on rural highway. Was unable to pass truck and had to fall back and thankfully no vehicles were coming in opposite direction. Was a pass with caution area with dotted line. Had to have towed to dealership, found to be issue with turbo. Research shows know issue with vehicle, see NHTSA service bulletin 19-032, but Honda states does not involve my VIN number, though exact issue, model, and year. I think this issue should be expand to include all vehicles of same make, model and year.

My 2018 Honda CR-V loses power and acceleration when driving, sometimes on the freeway. In addition, the computer system goes haywire and lights up all the engine failure lights. I've taken the vehicle to a mechanic four times for this problem, twice to a Honda dealership; the diagnosis each time has been a faulty fuel injector that spews gasoline into the oil. According to Consumer Reports, this problem has been common with the 2017 and 2018 models of this vehicle, and the Honda Co. agreed to extend the warranty on these models to cover the repair of a common problem among the models in these years. However, this visit to Honda of Bedford, Ohio, the dealership has kept the vehicle for four weeks because the Honda corporation refuses to repair a fuel injector that spews gasoline into the oil pan. The fuel injector was faulty but Honda won-??t take responsibility. It-??s a fire hazard as well as it could cause an accident when it loses power. especially in a high traffic area. My request is to compel the Honda Corporation to cover the cost of this repair in that the fuel injector in may of the 2017/2018 models were faulty from the factory. Because they are sold in a kit and all must be replaced essentially this smells like a money grab by Honda. Its deceit and makes one question if Honda should continue to receive ones business going forward.

While driving on the highway the service engine soon light started blinking and the engine lost power effecting my ability to keep up with traffic. After coming to a stop the light stopped. When I started the engine back up there was a lot of white smoke from the exhaust. I checked the oil level and it was at least 1/2 inch above full and smelled strongly of gas.

For no apparent reason all dash warning lights (forward collision warning, etc.) begin flashing when the vehicle is being driven (one right after the other). The first time this happened the warning lights stopped eventually. About one month later the same thing occurred but the warning lights would not quit. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the fuel injectors and fuel pipe at a cost of $2029. This car only has 32,746 miles on it. From what I understand fuel injectors should last between 50,000 and 100,000 miles. We also had to replace the tires. Of course it was not covered under warranty.

Did some research online to find that several people are having the same issue. While these lights are on there is no cruise control, lane assist or anything. Called Honda and there was no known issue. Dealership suggested maybe Honda will pay to fix issue... well, of course no such luck.

2018 Honda CR-V with 44000 miles on it. All the warning lights started scrolling across the dash screen while idling in a parking lot. Restarted the car, and the warnings continued to scroll. Brought to Honda dealer, and diagnostic showed that all four fuel injectors needed to be replaced, not covered by warranty, cost $1,000. The vehicle is well maintained, and always use quality fuel. I have never experienced problems with the fuel injectors in previous vehicles.

I was on highway I35 heading to dallas driving 70mph. Suddenly my check engine light started blinking and my car completely shut down automatically when I was in the middle of 18 wheelers and other traffic zooming by me honking due to my speed drastically dropping. I had to coast across 3 lanes of heavy traffic to get over to the shoulder. I was terrified I was going to get slam into by one of the many semi-trucks. It was terrifying. Called and had my car towed. Cleo bay Honda (kileen, tx) said it was a misfire of one of the fuel injectors. When I picked it up the following week, I got back on the freeway to head back to georgetown and the samething happened again. I again was forced to cross 2-3 lanes by coasting to get over to the shoulder. They now are going to replace all 4 fuel injectors, but I have lost all confidence in this car's safety. I do not want to take it on the freeway again, fearing the 3rd time I will be killed. I dodged two bullets with this car, why should I be forced to Dodge anymore? very scary! this car was programed to shut down when a misfire occurs but they fail to consider where the driver might be when it happens. Twice it happened when I was on a busy freeway and I lost all speed with cars/semi-trucks going 70-75mph past me and I am forced to cross 3 lanes of traffic to get to a safe location. The fear that happened the first time was still frightening and to have it happen a second time was terrifying and I don't feel safe anymore driving it. If not me someone will be killed or seriously injured due to this defect!

Driving car on slight uphill grade a a misfire occurred causing a flashing check engine light. Throttle control was defeated by design and the car came to a stop in a lane with no shoulder and semi trucks behind me. Was able to cycle key a few times and throttle control was restored until car misfired again and same thing happened again. Talked to local Honda service department and was told that what happened is by design, to protect the catalytic converter in the event of a misfire..this is a dangerous design flaw. There are other ways to protect the catalytic converter and still leave the car running with at least partial power. Many manufacturers simply cut fuel delivery to the cylinder that is misfiring, leaving you less power but still safe to drive.. this problem is a simple fix for Honda with a reflash. This dangerous situation was created by a simple spark plug issue on one cylinder.

About a month ago, I was parking my CRV and all of my dashboard warning lights came on. My cruise. Lane keep assist other features are completely disabled when this happens. My dealership states I need fuel injectors. I have done research on this problem, and Honda is very aware of this fuel injector problem. They actually put an extended warranty in place on the powertrain to remedy this. Unfortunately the powertrain warranty does not cover fuel injectors.on one occasion. Nov. 3 2020, my car stalled while going 70 miles per hour on the highway. Afterwards I smelled a strong fuel smell in my car. I have smelled this odor several times, however Honda says this is not a safety issue. I bought the car Jan. 2020. It had 89K miles on it. I did not think this new car would need an extended warranty. So Honda wants over $1100 to put fuel injectors in. I have read online about the many issues with the 2017 and 2018 crvs. The dream motor is a problem and Honda knows it. I guess it will take someone dying before anyone will pay me any attention. Honda says this is not a safety problem therefore I am assuming it is safe to drive, as I have to have my car. I am a nurse and travel on my job. I have no cruise, lane keep assist, lane stability or any of those features. I dont know how this car will pass inspection like this. Please help me. Google problems with 2018 CRV......Honda knows all about it. I have already filed a complaint with them. Please advise if seeking legal counsel will be beneficial to me. Thank you.
