CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends. Judging from the identical 2017 model year, the 2018 Honda CR-V is likely to have at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

Initial oil change on 2018 Honda CR-V ex with 1.5 turbo engine at 2303 miles. One week after changing oil noticed oil level had increased over 1/8" on dipstick and that oil on dipstick smells strongly of gasoline (oil level check was performed several hours after driving). Dilution of oil with gasoline is obviously detrimental to continued engine operation - therefore I can no longer drive my new vehicle. Research of the issue and identical symptoms from numerous owners clearly proves that Honda does not accept responsibility for this catastrophic design flaw (not in America anyway). Appears only possible solutions are class action lawsuit, lemon laws or waiting for Honda to man up. The obvious misinformation and corruption of the manufacturer toward their customers, concerning this well documented issue, is (imho) disgusting! it is not normal or in anyway safe or ok for engine crankcases to fill up with gasoline....ever!!! the fuel in oil issue is not the issue (design flaws happen when manufacturers fail to properly test new designs)...Honda's corrupt treatment of customers with the issue is the real issue and continued similar behavior just might put them out of business permanently.

We are experiencing a smell of gas in the cabin. The has been an ongoing issue since we purchased it brand new. At first we thought we stepped in gas and the smell was from our shoes. After more headaches and research, we are realizing that this is a common problem with the 2017 and 2018 CR-V's. another related problem we are having is that the engine occasionally stalls upon starting. We park the car in a garage. While at work, the car is parked outside. I went out to the car and tried to start it and the engine was hesitant to start and sounded like I was trying to start a car with a dead battery. It lagged and after three attempts the car started. This has happened to me a total of three times during the winter. Each incident was a separate occasion. Each time was after the car was parked outside for a few hours.

On 3 different occasions, while driving the car on the interstate highway, it started vibrating, and would not accelerate, burning smell occurred, several warning lights came up on the dashboard. We had to navigate the car from the middle of highway to the shoulder of the highway very abruptly. It was a near death experience as several trucks and cars were traveling on the highway at very fast speeds. Reported the first occurrence to the mcgrath city Honda, Chicago, il in January 2019 along with the dashboard warning light pictures and they replaced some fuel sensors and informed me that this was a manufacturing issue (defective part). Second incident occurred in February 2019, could not take photos as the problems went away after restarting the engine. Reported the third incident in March 2019 along with the dashboard warning light pictures to the same dealership and I was informed that there is a problem with fuel injector and they placed the order for the part. We are really, really scared of driving this defective, malfunctioning and hazardous vehicle. I searched the internet last night and it seems several other Honda CRV owners are having these issues. Please investigate this serious issue and save the people.

Engine (specifically coolant used for heating the windshield defrosting air) does not heat up enough in cold weather for windshield defrosters to work properly until car has been at highway speeds for several miles. When driven less than 40mph in weather below 32F., engine temperature remains cold, therefore providing to heat for defrosting windshield. It does not help to let vehicle "warm up" prior to driving because when idling the engine never gets warm (temperature indicator remains on coldest indicated setting). This creates a safety hazard because windows are not clear for driving. This is a consistent problem that occurs anytime outside temperatures are cold. I live in a northern state where temperatures reach -30F, and the problem is worse as the temperatures get colder.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. the contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to autopark Honda (located at 3630 old raleigh rd, cary, nc 27511, (919) 467-4747) for an oil change and the dealer diagnosed that there was an engine oil dilution with fuel due to a software setting. The contact was informed that the vehicle was safe to drive and there would be a software update to repair the failure; however, the remedy was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,500.

Oil level on dip stick is 1/2 ' above the full mark. Honda dealership performed the factories fix in January 2019. 2500 miles later same thing oil level is a 1/2 ' above high mark on dip stick. I took it back to the Honda dealership and they refused to even check the oil level. They handed me a piece of paper that states that they consider it normal dilution from unturned gas that drains down the cylinder wall and into the oil pan.

Now the oil dip stick level is one inch above the 'max fill dot'. the owners manual states 'do not fill the engine oil above the upper mark.' 'over flling the engine oil can result in leaks and engine damage.'

Gasoline was contaminating the oil and causing an overfilled crankcase condition. On occasion gasoline fumes entered the cabin in January a Honda "fix" was installed by the dealer as part of a Honda notification. The oil was changed and a new filter installed at the same time. Since then, the oil level has been continuously monitored with the same over full contamination and gasoline fume problems in existence. The Honda "fix" did not solve the problem. Both the dealer and Honda have been notified. The continuing problem has been acknowledged, but no solution has been offered or discussed, the problem has been ongoing since we took delivery of the vehicle in June 2018.

Terrible gas smell inside the vehicle. Very strong gas odor almost enough to give us a headache. We googled gas smell issue for a 2018 CRV and read information about checking oil to see if the strong gas smell is coming there. Oil dipstick smelled very strong for gas. Plan to contact Honda and the dealer tomorrow to see what can be done.
