Brakes And Power Steering Failed At Stop
2018 Honda CR-V
This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Honda dealer.
CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends. Judging from the identical 2017 model year, the 2018 Honda CR-V is likely to have at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

On July 17, 2019 I was driving on a residential street when all of a sudden my brakes jerked on suddenly and for a few seconds I felt like I had no control of my car. I had a hard time stopping but did then put it in park. Upon putting back in drive the brake lights went off and all SEEMED normal. I didn't do anything about it as I thought it was probably a feature I wasn't use to, having had this car only 6 months. I had NO idea that that incident was a foreshadowing of something to come...
One week later on July 25, 2019 at 1 PM I was driving into a usually very busy LA intersection. I was waiting to make my Yield on left turn. I had to wait as the light turned red. When I tried to brake all my warning lights came on, the brakes were not working except when I used ALL my strength. Thank God there were no cars right in front of me. I put on parking brake, stopped and restarted car. By this time I was IN the intersection. The brakes sound like a diesel truck brakes on a huge hill... they were "HOWLING'. I made the turn and looked for a place to pull over but I was scared I couldn't stop. No way could I have pulled to a curb! By this time I was crying, shaking and praying. I thought for sure I would CRASH. I made a decision to go to the HONDA dealer 1.5 miles away and prayed I would not be impeded. Again, thankfully it was mid day so not a bunch of traffic . As I started limping along with my hazard lights on and honking at times the POWER STEERING went out! EVERYTHING flashing at me! 2 right turns and one left turn later I got to the Honda service dept. with my brakes so loud. I almost drove into the porter booth! I was able to stop it enough to throw it into park and turn off engine. the service advisor also almost couldn't control it when she moved it in.
ONE WEEK in the shop they proclaim it to be fixed. Supposedly it was the power brake booster. So far I have not had a similar problem but it still does not feel "right". I have had an engine noise problem from the the first week I bought this car... which I will report in another listing. And now it is in the shop because the outside thermometer doesn't work... again I will report that separately.
I bought this car BRAND NEW in Jan. 2019 and it has been in the shop 4 times so far! I am extremely disappointed because I LOVE Hondas. The bigger issue with the brake and steering problem was that I was so shaken up and in physical pain from trying to stop and steer the vehicle that I am truly having dreams about that incident and each time I get that intersection I am scared my car won't stop. I see how PTSD works now...because that day I was suffering and frightened to anxiety!
