CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

I was going ~60-65MPH on the Ronald Reagan freeway east bound on a rainy day at ~ 3:40pm on 27th December 2022. I was going on the second from left lane between the Rinaldi and Porter Ranch exits. Unbeknownst to me this part of the freeway is notorious for flooding in the left lanes. I applied the brakes gently to slow down my car. Suddenly, I felt I lost steering, the car skidded the steering wheel turned left into the median barrier. The car then made a complete U-turn in the direction of traffic and flipped over one complete revolution. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the crash and other cars were not involved. There were no warnings and indication that the car was hydroplaning. The skidding safety feature was turned on. I released the car to the insurance company to recover monetary loss and I don't have any information on if it was inspected. CHP has an accident report with number 9580. The reason I am reporting this incident is because, I believe me gently braking to slow down from 60-65 to 50-55MPH should not have caused the car to U-turn and flip. I believe the 2017 Honda CRV safety system malfunctioned because unbeknownst to the Honda Sensing system the car was already hydroplaning. It braked and made some automatic steering and braking decisions that caused the car to turn and flip. I believe the control algorithm of the 2017 Honda CRV failed to detect the car was hydroplaning and subsequently executed steering and braking decisions that caused the total loss of my car.
My car brakes itself on my road and it took about 20 minutes of turning it off and back on to get 15 feet to my driveway. My car also started shaking and steering to the right on its own, I had a very difficult time not crashing. while I was on the highway with my 4 year old son in the back seat
When driving short and longer distances, typically at speeds consistently over 35mph the steering wheel seems to "lock" in place or feels "stuck". There is also an associated creaking sound. The locking up/stuck is pretty easily resolved, SO FAR. This behavior started this summer and happened practically all summer any time I drove anywhere. (The fields below don't allow me to enter multiple dates/ranges.) My kids are almost 17 now and I cannot help them work on driving miles to get their licenses because I feel my car is unsafe to drive. This identical behavior has been pretty well documented in several years of the Honda CRVs on a Honda forum (https://). The mentioned forum has examples where much more extreme results occur where steering locks up while turning and cars become undrivable. Reports are that Honda has been unwilling/unresponsive to address/resolve. I've had my Honda dealer service team trying for over a week now to get Honda to either cover the steering replacement or authorize covering it via my extended warranty. This shouldn't take so long to approve and I believe Honda should cover it. My car is unsafe to drive and this warrants further action. Honda is not acting in the best interest of the public and is complicit and responsible for any injuries or death resulting from this issue. I hope The NHTSA is able to do something to light a fire under Honda to get some attention on this issue, on behalf of all Honda drivers.
The dashboard and radio screen start to glitch, causing my steering wheel to lock up and making it complicated to turn. This hazard makes me feel unsafe for myself and others.
Steering wheel has too much play/turns too easily/doesn't feel tight enough for accurate maneuverability. Highway driving requires constant focus on lane position and lane lines, making for an exhausting drive. Very difficult to prevent car from drifting out of the lane. Accident could result from car quickly drifting into neighboring lanes an oncoming traffic. Shortly after purchase, Honda mechanic checked it out. Even with an appointment I was there for 3 hours. I was told no issues were found. However, when I left the dealership, I immediately noticed a considerable improvement in maneuverability. Over time the challenging maneuverability issue has returned.

Tugging, pulling sensation mainly when turning left and sometimes when turning right motion is not initiated by the driver car was taken twice to Honda dealer and kept for 3 to 4 days -axle replaced- didn't help. Today is May 18, 2021 and I am still having steering problems with this vehicle- steering wheel pulls and tugs now and then at various speeds.
Computer failure resulting in multiple error message's and warning lights. Loss of antilock brakes, electric parking brakes, automatic collision brakes, adaptive cruise control, lane departure mitigation, hill assist, vehicle stability assist problem, power steering problem. Took vehicle to Honda dealer, they claimed software issue and did an upgrade. Problem is back. I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery. A few days later problem returns. Does not matter if you are driving or parked. It has failed while driving and while parked with engine running. Error requires a computer reset to clear it. Problem first occurred over a year ago and continues to this day..
I was driving with the touring system on that keeps the vehicle between lines, when suddenly started raining and the car did a complete turn of the wheel making the car go crazy and spinning about 3 times while in the highway
Recall: 17V256000, 17V442000, 18V663000. Why weren't these recalls listed on your website. I purchased a car with 3 recalls because they were not listed on your site.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. the contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the steering wheel ceased with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was driven home, parked overnight, and resumed normal operation the following day. The vehicle was taken to the hendrick Honda of charleston located at (1539 savannah highway, charleston, SC 29407 (843) 279-0447) where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine module needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred multiple times intermittently. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
All of the warning lights on the dash light up and stay lit up even after the car is turned off and back on. The dealer reset the computer and after driving for a couple of hours the warning lights came back on. When the lights come on the car loses power and can not excellerate. Climbing a steep hill is very difficult.
This morning as I was driving I went through a 4-way intersection. I was half way through the intersection when my car announced lane departure. At that time the vehicle shot over to the right and hit the curb at the end of the intersection. I shredded my tire, and had to place the spare on the vehicle. I have been to Honda multiple times for these electrical problems. While driving I have been go at a speed around 45-70 mph, and the vehicle will flash brake. At that time the vehicle's brakes will lock up. There was no one in front of me for any the occasions. Honda told me to switch my ez pass responder to make sure that wasn't causing interference. I switched it, and it kept occurring. This morning the concerns I brought up at my last service about what if I get in an accident almost became a reality. Luckily there was no one on the corner waiting to cross the road. The Honda dealership keeps telling me there will be an update, but something needs to be done now. Lives are at risk. If I knew how to go by doing a lemon I would. I started reporting issues at 18K, and have constantly been doing reporting occurrences were the vehicle has malfunctioned.
I was driving my Honda CR-V on a highway using the hov lane. At some point while driving normally the front driver side seemed to have collapse and the car started pulling strong in one direction towards the center divider line. With two hands on the wheel the pull was so strong that I would barely control the car and keep it from crashing into the divider. Barely missing the divider I managed to stop the car on the shoulder luckily without anyone colliding into me. If I was driving in the middle lane this could have prompted a major accident. I didn't go over any pothole or obstruction on the road. No one hit me nor did I hit anyone. No airbags inflated nor warning indicators appear on the console. I called the police and once on the scene the police swept the highway to determine if there were any potholes or obstacles that could have caused the incident. They confirmed that non existed and that the road was deemed safe. There was no police report produced as the police deemed the incident to be a non accident and instead a breakdown since there was no collision or altercation. When looking at the car damage there was significant damage to the wheel, wheel well, rim which split up vertically, rotar, suspension, wheel caliper, brakes (which fell off in pieces) and basically everything attached to the driver side wheel. The vehicle needed to be towed as it was not operational at that point. When brought back to the Honda dealer the dealer could not find anything reported on the computer. There only explanation was that the car was involved in an accident. The dealer did not want to further investigate or find fault even though the vehicle was still covered under the warranty. This incident seemed to be a mechanical malfunction that occurred that almost took my life and could be a potential safely concern for other Honda CR-V drivers if not properly investigated.
When turning sharp the rear end makes a grinding sound and will jerk. I believe this is the differential grinding. Was told it just needed serviced at 17,000. I did this and problem was not fixed.
My car was in motion I was making a right turn into the highway when my car just stopped. I turned it off, when I tried to turn it back on, it didn't. I started to smell something burning. So I just left it alone. Only the lights on the dashboard and the radio turned on, I was able to control the windows. The warning lights that came up were the electronic power steering, charging system, and the check engine lights.
The gear shift button is broken. Searched online that they are all 2017 crvs. My case is even worse that one broken part gets stuck inside and I can't shift it from D to P. we successfully turned off the engine. This is very dangerous when it's broken when driving.
As I was leaving this morning I heard something crack and fall. I didn't look down to see what it was since the car moved into D with no problem and I drove to work. When I went to put the car in reverse to park (stopped) I looked over and noticed the button you push to select gears was missing I only saw a spring. I looked down and saw it had fallen off. I was able to use it to push in and change gears, but I wasn't able to shut it off properly without effort when stationary.
For the third time, since buying the car new, all the warning lights came on, and all safety systems shut down. This time power steering was also lost which could've caused a crash. I believe this is due to rodent damage again. Honda sells rodent tape and I've used it but can't tell where the rodents will eat. I belive this is due to the soy-based insulation and other parts in the car as none of my other vehicles have ever had this issue and I live in a rural environment. Vehicle was not being driven'was temporarily parked outside when this happened.
Complete vehicle system problem messages. Vehicle stability, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, electrical parking brake, emissions system, brake system, brake hold, power steering, hill start assist, tire pressure monitor problem, power steering system problem. Every one of these systems is displaying a 'problem' message as well as brake light is flashing on the dashboard engine light is on brake system light is on steering wheel light is on vehicle stability light is on battery light is on and oil lamp is on. This is about the fifth time this has happened. I have also experienced this while driving. The vehicle will suddenly display all these error messages for no apparent reason. Sometimes the error messages will pop up as soon as you turn the car on other times it happens suddenly while driving. It happens on city streets and on the highway straight away or turning
