Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

When I got into car in shopping plaza parking lot I attempted to put my vehicle in reverse at which time and the gear shifter knob fell out and crumbled into pieces. Not able to move vehicle nor put in park. After inspecting temporarily put piece in which enabled me to get home. While driving felt very unsafe not knowing if it would remain in gear. Once home unable to put in park. Luckily vehicle has button brake system which enabled me to put brakes on and get husband's help. He temporarily enabled vehicle into park after which vehicle although in park never fully turned off. Due to christmas could not get to dealer til today. Battery dead. Charged, took to dealer replaced without comment. After googling, this appears to be an ongoing issue for a number of years. I believe this could cause dangerous situations. I personally was very distressed. This has not been a recall issue. I definitely believe it should.
The gear shift button mechanism broke as I was parking when my car only had 5,312 miles on it. This is a dangerous safety hazard as the gear shift button mechanism broke without warning and can make it so one is unable to shift. The Honda dealer at ocean Honda in North hollywood, ca, replaced the gear shift button 12/17/18 but it is not shifting smoothly now when I put the car in reverse.
The lockout button on the side of the transmission shift lever popped off, preventing the vehicle from shifting out of park. This can obviously cause the vehicle to be disabled. The service technician at the Honda dealership said this is a common problem with 2017-2018 Honda Cr-vs, but I couldn't find a recall for it.
The shifter lock button came out of the shifter handle. The vehicle had approximately 59500 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was stationary, I had just shifted into reverse. I have the button temporarily held in with a rubber band. I have a repair appointment with the Honda dealer for Thursday, December 20, 2018. When I went in to make the appointment, the dealer service advisor told me this is a common problem and that they are keeping the parts in stock. Current miles = 4K. 1= battery went dead several times, was told update was done because issue w/parking brake circuitry. 2= various driver assist warning lights come on intermittently on dash.-issue not identified nor fixed. (ongoing) 3= recently pulled over by police nighttime-no tail lights, though front lights worked- driver of car was not familiar w/car- police fiddled w/ lightswitch got them working told driver to take it to dealer-no ticket issued. 4= noticeable lack of acceleration, fuel odor about vehicle, also sulphur smell after driving, heat does not warm cabin, nor defrost.defog windshield properly, oil black and overfull. Oil changed, issues reoccur within a few driving miles (50-100). One dealer blames the other, Honda says they didn't know of issues, dealer finally confirmed gas in oil. Again-there is only 4K miles on this 'vehicle'. all these issues relate to safety, either to anyone inside the vehicle or others on the road. I have no confidence in driving this (paying more attention to cluster, driving subtleties etc than traffic), and am very upset in paying the payment each month while hearing the 2 dealers blame each other, and while Honda shrugs their shoulders. I am taking it, once again, to the dealer this Saturday for an 'update' to the software-per Honda case mgr naomi xt 87075. Documentation can be provided on request-- I am out of time and patience. There are many more people with these documented issues on this vehicle than are being reported here- (see google and social media). I dread having to drive it Saturday nine miles to the dealer. This is the top selling car in its class-- there is a major problem being driven daily on the highways of the usa. My issues began April 2017 (purchases 3/30/2017) and have been ongoing through Dec 2018. Please help!!

Along with my gas in the oil tank issue, the car does not heat up any longer. It was 37 degrees here in NY and my car is only outputting cold air. I've taken my vehicle to the dealership already and they could not fix either issue. I am extremely frustrated.
1) pushed ignition button and put gearshift into R to back out of garage 2) gearshift nob spontaneously popped out onto mat 3) couldn't shift into P, only N 4) car on incline driveway into street that was busy with morning traffic 5) required to keep foot on brake while looking for nob 6) after several minutes, found nob and was able to put back into place and shift gear into D and drove back into garage and then put gear into P 7) extremely dangerous! nob could have been irretrievable with no way to keep car from sliding into traffic other than with foot on brake; no other way to keep car from moving; no manual braking method available 8) subsequently on internet search, this is known problem 9) was able to drive to dealer and have mechanism replaced in 1 day

Infotainment screen will randomly flash, dim and beep. This has caused several safety issues including high level of distraction and failure of the navigation system at all the wrong times. This happens randomly when the vehicle is in motion or stopped. The problem has been reported to the dealer and they have failed to find a solution. They claim no one else has reported similar problems. This is laughable due to all of the online complaints and youtube videos documenting the same problem. They have refused to attempt a repair or replacement of affected defected components.
I can smell gas inside cabin while driving and this happened multiple times. This happened while driving in city. Concerned about heath issues if I drive this without fixing the issue.
Adaptive cruise works fine, except when it is unable to identify a stationary vehicle in front at a stop light. This happens when the vehicle is on adaptive cruise set and it fails to identify the stationary vehicle in front of it.
1. engine oil level after a recent oil change ( with very less mileage) shows the oil level is higher than the "highest" indicator point. It appears to be oil is getting diluted by unburnt fuel. This may potentially harm the engine!!.
The detent for the automatic shifter just popped off and I had no way to shift the vehicle into park or any other gear for that matter. I checked google and there are a large number of other people dealing with this same defect.
A situation in which the dashboard lights show multiple system failures including failures of the rdm, cruise control, brakes and cmbs. This has happened twice, including a second time immediately after the dealer "fixed" the problem. The car has beed stopped but idling in both situation. I drove immediately to the dealership the first time and did not even leave the dealership the second time. An indication of a "brake system failure" is disconcerting even though there seems to be no affect on vehicle performance, other than these safety features being rendered inoperable.
After I pulled into my garage, stopped the vehicle, and put it into park, I released the shifter interlock button and it popped out and landed on the floor. For the past few weeks I thought the button had more play in it when, but figured that I was imagining it because what could go wrong with a button on a vehicle with only 7500 miles on it. I brought the vehicle to the dealer this morning and they ordered replacement parts and scheduled an appointment for the repair. I'm kind of surprised that they didn't give me a loaner and tell me to stop driving it since not being to shift a vehicle into park (if the button were to fall out while driving) seems like a safety issue.
2 separate concerns! in the past year there have been several occasions that I smelled gasoline inside the vehicle. When first entering after the car had been parked. This occurred during the past 6 to 8 months. Strong odor. There is gasoline mixing with the engine oil. When you check the oil level it is always way overfilled. It is overfilled due to the gasoline mixing with the engine oil. Lubricating oil is being mixed with solvent - gas. There is the very strong odor of gas as soon as you pull the oil dipstick. The Honda dealership did not make any repair, this is noted on my work order.
