CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

For about six months my service lights have been lighting up. For the same amount of time I have noticed that my car begins to "stink" after running for a minute or two. I took it into the dealership and the service advisor states that I have three of four fuel injectors that have failed. I asked the service advisor about the warranty and she states those are not under warranty. I have researched this issue and have found that many many people have had problems with their fuel injectors and Honda will not replace them under warranty. I am sending this complaint because I feel that this issue should be covered under a recall warranty, since it has been noted in other models that the fuel injectors were recalled and repaired. Please help.

All of my warning lights are on. The above checklist only lets me pick 3 items total but every warning light is on. Brake hold system, power steering, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure, electric parking brake, tpm, emission system problem, all wheel drive system. My car has went from driving 70mph on the highway to suddenly going to 10-20 mph! Super dangerous and this has happened 2 times. First time in March 24-?? and again May 24-??. The reset resolved it briefly but it returned again and again. Now all lights are on and it scares me to drive on the interstate because I don-??t know when it will happen again. My safety features do not work on my car when the lights are on. I have had the codes checked and reset 2 times. Codes P0172 & P0303 were a couple codes it shows.

I recently visited Honda dealership ( Honda of Chantilly, Chantilly, VA - 20151). I would like to report the findings for further guidance. All warning signs on my 2017 Honda CRV turning on while driving on the high way. These signs come and go often. So, I took the SUV to the dealership for the diagnosis. Dealer found the issue and the diagnosis code was P0172 (Fuel System too rich). Later I figured that this code is reported under recall/extended service with clear detail ( Honda Service Bulletin 19-037). I reported the findings with doc to the Honda Manufacturer and dealer but their response was that my Vin is not impacted. So, they denied to fix the issue. However, my car has the same issue with diagnostic code which was performed by dealer.

All warning lights have been illuminated for several months. On occassion will turn off, but only for 1-2 days then back on again for another few weeks. After on-line research learned this is a very common problem for this make/model/year that Honda is not acknowledging as an issue. Honda dealer service technician diagnosed what I already knew that car needs new fuel injectors. Most safety features and cruise control do not function as a result. Parts are on backorder.

Have dealt with oil dilution the life of this vehicle, around 63K miles all lights lit up in the dash disabling ALL safety features. For a while this issue would come and go and the lights would clear, CEL included. Brought into Honda for a diagnosis and they state that the vehicle needs new fuel injectors. Due to the CEL from the fuel Injectors it disables ALL safety features therefore putting the driver and others on the road at risk.

On April 27 suddenly, without prior warning or indication, all dashboard warning lights and all system alerts went off simultaneously. My Honda dealer confirmed today the issue is the fuel injectors. All 4 injectors failed the fuel ratio test. They quoted $2,000 to fix. I negotiated the price down to $1700 as I am just 4K miles out of manufacturer warranty. This injector issue disables KEY safety features of the CR-V's when it occurs. An injector issue should NOT cause safety features of the CR-V to stop working (ex. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, TPS, Hill Start Assist, Braking, etc...)

My car went into the limp mode when I was driving and would only go 7 to 8 miles per hour. This is a big safety hazard. Had I been on the freeway and not near my home, it could have easily caused an accident.I had it towed to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong and said it was probably Bad gas. Prior to this, several lights had come on the dash stating that all of the systems in the car were not working. They also could not tell me why that was happening. It seems now that I find out that Honda CRVs made in the year 2017 have bad fuel injectors. I'm having to get that replaced. I'm not sure if that's what caused the car to go into the limp mode.

All the following safety systems were getting failed lights on vehicle: - Adaptive Cruise control-?? - Collision Mitigation-?? - Road Departure Mitigation-?? - Vehicle Stability Assist-?? - Hill Start Assist-?? - Electric Parking Brake-?? - Tire Pressure Monitoring. We were replacing the battery thinking it was a battery issue as it was diagnosed prior. Took it to dealer and they confirmed fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced at 81K miles.

Subject: Urgent Complaint Regarding Honda CRV Fuel Injector Issue Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Team, I am writing to urgently report a safety concern regarding my Honda CRV, and to request a recall and replacement of the fuel injector system. Recently, my Honda CRV experienced a series of warning lights illuminated on the dashboard display. Upon diagnostic examination at an authorized Honda dealership, it was determined that the issue stems from a malfunctioning fuel injector. Prior to this diagnosis, my vehicle was involved in two alarming incidents where its speed became uncontrollable, despite my efforts to apply the accelerator pedal. The first incident fortunately did not result in an accident due to sparse traffic conditions. However, during the second incident, the vehicle behind me was forced to perform an emergency brake maneuver, narrowly averting a potentially catastrophic collision. These incidents highlight a critical safety hazard that poses a significant risk to both myself and other road users. As a concerned member of the community, I strongly urge NHTSA to initiate a recall of all affected Honda CRV vehicles and implement a comprehensive replacement program for the fuel injector system. Addressing this issue promptly is crucial to preventing future accidents and ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I eagerly await your swift action and resolution of this pressing concern. Sincerely, One of the CRV owners

Driving on the highway at 65-70 MPH from Buffalo on [XXX] - so there was heavy traffic. Engine started to run rough, then the warning system showed almost all of the errors on the dash, including TPM, collision avoidance, lane alert, etc. Then the car could only go about 25 MPH, so had to pull off to the side (luckily) and turned off car to restart since that has worked before. This time it did not work, so had to drive about 1 mile to next exit on the side of the road and call for a tow from Erie to Pittsburgh. This has happened before when trying to accelerate from an ramp to the highway. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was driving my Honda CRV 2017 on I-65 in Birmingham - Montgomery area in Alabama in March 2024 and suddenly in the middle of the busy highway the vehicle stalled and wouldn-??t drive even after stepping on the accelerator a little harder. I then turned on my emergency lights to signal to the behind vehicles that I have and emergency situation became I was in the middle of a busy highway and the vehicle simply wouldn-??t drive. I managed to pull aside of the highway and turned the engine off because I didn-??t know what the issue was. After a few minutes I started the vehicle again and drove a few miles and the vehicle stalled again. After a couple of repeated cycle, I got the vehicle to a nearby Honda dealership for diagnostic testing which later revealed that the fuel injectors, the head gasket, the turbo system etc were causing the vehicle to stall. The vehicle is currently not drivable and has since been with the Honda dealership as I am writing. With taxes, the dealership is charging me approximately $5000 USD to fix this problem, money that I cannot afford. Not knowing what to do, I did a brief research to see if anyone else has experienced this issue before and I found out in the consumer report that other drivers have actually experienced exactly the same issue that happened to my vehicle. I currently do not have any additional vehicle for commuting and I am forced to use rented vehicles with the rental cost accumulating on the daily basis while my vehicle remains with the dealership. I am therefore writing this notification for Honda to look into this potentially risk safety incidence and help Honda CRV owners and myself get this problem fixed because such experience doesn-??t boost consumer confidence for both current and future Honda CRV owners. Thanks

The fuel injectors are the issue with this Honda. When driving with these injectors and they go bad the vehicles braking system, lane assist, and Vehicle stability goes out. I have had my vehicle serviced (no injectors available to fix issue at this moment) by a Honda dealership since every warning and check engine light was on. Honda is aware of this issue but fails to recall the injectors. No repair invoice yet however it is a $2,500 fix when the parts are available from backorder.

While driving on the highway, the car abrutly slowed down to 25 mph and all of the lights on the dash lit up. Fortunately, I was able to pull over to the side of the highway and avoid an accident. Upon taking the car to the dealership, they stated that the car required new fuel injectors. Prior to this incident, there were no indications of any issues with the car.

In September of 2022 all the warning lights went off and the associated systems shut down. Took vehicle to dealer and had codes checked. Code thrown was P0172 - system too rich. Though vehicle was under extended warranty at the time of this incident none of the potential TSB-??s for this known issue were investigated. Was advised that it was potentially bad gas and to run it low, return to dealer and have lights reset, refill with better fuel and see if the code trips again. Now in January of 2024, after my extended warranty has expired, the same code has been thrown again, and I-??ve been advised to try the same thing, though this adviser does not believe the gas is the issue. He speculates that the fuel injectors are the likely culprit. Once again, a very known issue to Honda, which costs about $1500 to $2000 to repair. As this is a known issue, Honda should be correcting it free of charge to the owners of these vehicles.

While driving the car it began to spit and sputter and lost power to the point I had to pull out of traffic to the shoulder, stop, and turn hazard lights on. While there I turned the car off and restarted it. I began to enter back into traffic, got to about 10-15 mph and all of a sudden the car ran choppy and every light came on the dash displaying a problem with every function of the car. My husband works about a mile from where I was so I drove from where it happened to his workplace. From there the phone calls began to obtain a tow to the dealership. Diagnostic results said head gasket was leaking and coolant was fouling the spark plugs. Dealer quoted $5700 for repairs. (25 hours of labor). Around 86,000 miles (10 weeks ago) the same dealership replaced fuel injectors and spark plugs for $1700. Now the 2017 car is just under 90,000 miles.

My car had been rough on the steering wheel and eventually started to stall but still had a quarter of a tank of gas. It marked at a quarter of a tank but stalled in the middle of the freeway going 65+ mph and caused me to go from 65 to 0 in a matter of seconds. All my lights came on, on my dash and the car would not run. Went to get gas and car took a while to run again, this is the second time it happens and I didn-??t even get a warning light for gas, there was that much still left in it. Apparently no recalls are associated with this VIN but this has happened twice in a month and it runs through gas very quickly.

I own a 2017 Honda CRV EX AWD. While driving downhill on a mountain road on Dec. 9, 2023, all of my dashboard warning lights and alarms began flashing and sounding off. Some of the warnings cycled through one after another while others were simultaneous. I continued to drive looking for a safe place to pull over. Going downhill I was able to maintain some speed, but when the road leveled off I found I was unable to accelerate to more than 5-10 miles per hour despite the engine continuing to rev. After pulling over, I stopped the engine for 10 minutes. Upon restarting, the dashboard warnings repeated the same process. At first opportunity, I took the car to a Honda dealership where code DTC P0304 was diagnosed and I was advised that the problem was failure of my fuel injectors. Repairs were made at a cost of more than $2000. Fortunately, this failure did not happen to me on a crowded freeway going at higher speeds as it could have easily created a situation where property damage, injuries, or fatalities could have occurred.
