CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

My vehicle received a new battery, which resulted in all dash lights coming on and staying on. Dealer advised that fuel injectors need to be replaced. Contacted Honda Corp. after reading that Honda had extended the warranty to cover some CRVs up to 200,000, in which my would had been covered. I do t know why getting new battery would results in lights coming on but no problems until then.

The issue was reported on 08OCT2022 to a Phil Hughes Honda. The vehicle was brought into the Phil Hughes on 13OCT2022 due to all the lights on the dash were lit up but was drivable to the dealer. Prior to completing the Service Bulletin 19-032, Phil Hughes Honda diagnosed with P0301 (Cylinder 1) misfiring and P0172 (fuel system too rich). The lead service tech has already mentioned the root cause is the fuel injectors causing the misfire and fuel system too rich. I had the vehicle for less than one day after the completion of the service bulleting 09-032. There was lost of power on the road on three (3) different occasions. Loss of power means the vehicle went into "limp" mode during normal road driving and dropped acceleration from normal speed 60mph to ~20mph and continued to decelerate to about ~10mph. The vehicle was pulled over, turned off for about 5 minutes, and turned back on with all the warning lights remaining lit. All the warning lights remain on and was diagnosed again by Phil Hughes Honda and, this time, they got more codes. But, this time there were misfires with Cylinder 1, 2, 3 AND 4 which would be codes P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, and P0172 fuel system too rich. Again, the root cause has been diagnosed to be the fuel injectors. Case # [XXX] is open Honda of America has been contacted and Case # [XXX]. Honda of America classifies fuel injectors as an emissions part which is hard to believe as fuel in delivered to the engine which the engine is part of the power train. Honda Service Bulletin 19-032 says the POSSIBLE CAUSE is "Based on certain driving patterns and environmental factors, the DTC's state above may set or whirling noise may occur). This is not true and the true root cause is fuel injectors. This is a HIGH RISK that is waiting to occur and there could have been a FATALITY as the vehicle dropped in deceleration in the middle of the street and someone could have gotten rear-ended and killed. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Fuel injectors failed at 45k miles, resulting in PO304 and PO172. Engine dies at speed causing the vehicle to stop and requires a restart to resume acceleration. Problem is intermittent and happens without notice. Dealer confirmed failed fuel injectors. Vehicle stops enters limp mode (0% power, does not respond to accelerator input) at random speeds. vehicle needs full stop and restart to resume driving. Yes, Dealer confirmed fuel injectors are faulty and suggests this is fairly common with this model CRV Yes, Honda will replace the injectors. Suggest the failure is common but not covered under warranty or goodwill repair All dashboard warning lights (Brake System Failure, Parking Brake Failure, Traction Control, Power Steering, Lane Keeping, Malfunction Indicator Lamp, Etc.)

All warning lights start cycling through and flashing. Not able to use the automated driving system at all. Honda diagnostics reports all 4 fuel injectors need to be replaced. Fuel is too rich. This is NOT just a cold weather problem. I live in Arkansas and it has been happening all summer in 100+ degree heat.

On Saturday June 18, 2022 at 9:56 a m I was pulling my 2017 HONDA CRV into a parking space at my local Food Lion in Madison, NC. As soon as I took my foot off the gas pedal and slowly pressed the brakes, the engine immediately revved up, accelerated highly and lurched forward not stopping until I hit an unoccupied vehicle head on in front of me. At the same time side swiping an unoccupied vehicle to the left of me. Thankfully no one was injured. Total of {3} vehicles involved causing several thousands dollars of damage. Was inspected by the police and there were no warning signs; it just happened immediately. When researching on line about problems of HONDA CRV"s this issue was listed numerous times: UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. Something needs to be done about this problem before people are killed!

This vehicle equipped with a 1.5 L Turbo has fuel diluting the oil and causing stalling on occasion and acrid smells inside the vehicle. I changed my oil at 70% reaming life, but only 3,000 miles driven because the oil dip stick was 1/2 inch above above the full mark. The performance has downgraded and diluted oil can possibly cause a catastrophic engine failure while in operation. This has been going on since I have purchased the vehicle, but not to this extent. Honda has not recalled the vehicle, claiming it is not safety related, yet apprx 350,000 models were recalled in China for basically the same problem. I now will have oil samples tested from this time on to further verify my claim

I was driving and suddenly, for no apparent reason, all of the hazard and warning lights started flashing. I received all of the following errors on the dash: "Emissions System Problem" "Brake System Problem" "Brake Hold System Problem" "Power Steering System (EPS) Problem" "Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem" "Hill Start Assist Problem" "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" "Collision Mitigation System Problem" "Road Departure Mitigation System Problem" "Keyless Remote Not Detected" "Electric Parking Brake Problem" "Tire Pressure Monitor Problem" I was then informed by the dealership that there was a software update that would solve the problem. After completing the software update, the error lights and flashing started again a couple weeks later. After taking the vehicle back to the dealership for further testing, it was advised that new fuel injectors are needed. I was appalled by this and took the vehicle to an independent auto repair shop and after more testing was advised again of needing new fuel injectors. This ultimately cost me $1500 and can't fathom needing new fuel injectors at 50,000 miles.

System Failure: Fuel Emissions System Problem and all other warning lights are on. Safety: Cruise control does not function and automatic breaking does not function. Dealership: Yes, the problem was reproduced even after the spark plugs and rocket arm assembly were replaced inside the limits of the 6 year unlimited mileage warranty. The dealership acknowledged that 5 or 6 other customers were in with similar complaints this month. Others: an independent garage inspected the vehicle and confirmed that a warranty should cover this problem some 8 months ago. Indications are a weak cylinder may be the root cause of the fuel emissions system problem in addition to the fuel injectors and pipes. Warning lamps, messages and other symptoms were present prior to the failure and appeared well before the manufacturer's warranty expired. The dealership we purchased the vehicle from failed to locate the problem and did not repair when we first discovered the problem and brought the vehicle in for repair in 11/2020. We recently contacted Honda Corporation directly and they gave us a case number for reference while they review this complaint.

Merging onto highway and car completely stalled. I almost got rear-ended by tractor trailer behind me. All warning lights went on. I shut down and restarted the engine and car will not go above 55mph. Dealer says one of my fuel injectors is bad so they all need replacing. This a huge hazard to anyone driving this vehicle due to faulty fuel injectors as many other owners have complained about which can lead to sudden stalling and vehicle collision.

honda crv 2017 touring vehicle with 1.5 engine. On several occasions he has lost the acceleration force, he feels flooded, I had to stop at the side of the road, turn off the vehicle and turn it on again to be able to go to a safer place, I have already visited 2 authorized Honda drivers and my mechanic personal ! I have bought original parts and nothing to stop the problem. I have spent thousands of dollars changing the injectors, pipe set, manifold, throttle body, spark plugs ect. for two times now and this is my 3rd time and still the problem continues. I have been afraid to drive the vehicle because I am risking my life by not knowing when it might happen again, I do not drive with my children in fear, I have had to stop working because of everything that happens. I'm even thinking about changing my vehicle and never buying a Honda again

I was driving along the highway when all of a sudden the car stalled and all of the lights started to flash; we noticed there is a recall for fuel pumps on 2018-2019 honda CR-V's but this is the same exact thing that happend to our 2017, luckily nobody was hurt as the state police came right away and we were towed to the side of the highway; there was no warning signs; We had the car towed to the Honda dealership and it was diagnosed as a faulty/failing fuel pump. Hope this helps

Entire system failure occurred while driving on a 4-lane interstate at speeds of 70 mph in congested traffic in air temps of 80 F (sunny). Vehicle lost all power both electrical / mechanical for roughly four to five seconds. There was immediate deacceleration and zero power (electrical / mechanical). Driver's immediate response was to remove hands from steering wheel and removed foot from gas in a state of shock/disbelief. Vehicle then restarted itself and resumed function. Driver was put at extreme risk as well as all other drivers / vehicles in surrounding roadway due to the extreme deacceleration with no warning. Incident reported to dealer who stated they had not heard of such an occurrence and requested vehicle be brought in for a $120 diagnostic check. Vehicle purchased new. Mileage at time of incident 20,000.

I have a 2017 Honda CRV with 1.5 turbo with only 89,651 miles. When we started the vehicle every warning light on the dash was on, including parking brake, lane departure, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist. So we didn't know if it was safe to even drive the car home. So I had to have a family member bring a code reader so i I could see if we could drive it home. It only had 3 codes, P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Dtc severity 2 of 3, P0302 cylinder 2 Misfire detected and another P0302 cylinder misfire. Had no codes of all the warning lights that were flashing on the dash. I cleared the codes with the code reader and all warning lights went off. So we drove it home. The next day we sent it to a Honda dealer and they performed a software update and a air-fuel test on all 4 cylinders. The vehicle did fail air-fuel test. The Honda dealer recommends new fuel injectors at a cost of $ $1264. I feel there is a defect in the fuel injectors if they only lasted 89,650 miles. Also Honda might have a software problem if bad fuel injectors makes all the warning lights go on.

On the way down from grapevine along I-5, warning lights showed on my dashboard, e.g. tire pressure monitor problem, emission system problem, brake system problem, etc..., I panic and exited the freeway. I opened the hood to cool the engine. After about an hour, I restarted the engine and the warning lights disappeared so I continued my travel. However, after about 40 miles, the warning lights came up again. So, I exited the freeway again. We called service dealer in bakersfield and based on our report he said the computer may not be talking with other parts. He asked us to bring it in. But this dealer is some 30 miles away and it's too far from home. I restarted the engine again and the warning lights went away after the engine has cooled down. So I went back to the freeway driving slowly and carefully until there was a slower truck in front of me. I tried to overtake the truck then I felt like something snapped, the same warning lights came out and I can feel the engine was losing power so I parked on the side and decided to have the car towed since it can stall in the middle of the road putting our lives in danger. When the car was towed to the Honda dealer close to home, it was diagnosed as initially fuel pump problem with an estimated cost of about $2,000. But the parts will take about a week to ship due to hazard issues. They offer to buy back our car but at only half the price that we bought it. It's almost four years old.
