CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

All the warning lights activated when I was driving on the highway and the car made a bell noise to alert me. None of the safety features worked on the Honda CRV 2017, but I was able to maintain driving the vehicle without it. I took it into Tempe Honda Service and they said that the code read DTC P0172 and that I needed to replace all the fuel injectors.

The check engine light on my 2017 Honda CRV came on August 2022 and all safety features of my vehicle stopped working. I immediately took the car to my local Honda dealership. They claim the issue is due to faulty fuel injectors but refused to cover the cost to fix them under warranty even though it-??s a known issue with this car and a couple of other Honda cars that use the same system. I-??m really concerned as the injector issue disables KEY safety features when it occurs. An injector issue should NOT cause safety features to stop working (ex. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, TPS, Hill Start Assist, Braking, etc...). Honda should be held responsible for putting their customers lives at risk with faulty systems and lack of accountability or solutions.

Three years ago all the dashboard warning lights went on in my car saying everything was wrong with my car 'brake system problem, ' power steering problem, hill assist problem, etc. etc. etc. I took it to Honda immediately and they had no idea why it was happening. If I spend $4,000 they'll figure it out. Once in a blue moon the lights will magically turn off on its own for two or three days with no problems and then the lights come back on every single time you start the car. 355 days out of the year the lights are on every single time you start the car with no safety features able to work. It's beyond irritating, but it's mostly annoying because when you pay for extra safety features (like lane keep assist) none of them work when the lights are on. NONE. No brake warning, no lane keep assist, nothing. The car runs fine - people who do the tire rotations can't recalibrate it. So I took it to Honda again last week only to be told it is a problem with the fuel injectors and it's mostly 2017 models because of the new engine look. The fuel injectors weren't made properly to fit the vehicle, and the fact thousands of people have had this exact issue and Honda WON'T address it or do a recall, is absolutely wrong and disgusting. It's not a cheap fix. I will never buy a Honda ever again.

On major highways with traffic, the car would idle rough before conking out completely, especially upon acceleration. In cases where I needed to accelerate to merge into traffic, it was very scary, unpredictable, and unsafe. All warning display messages came on as well. Two mechanics have looked and the second mechanic stated that there's a common issue with fuel injectors for 2017 Honda CRV's. Since it's such a common problem with these cars, the fuel injectors are on a very extended backorder. So, he replaced them with after market injectors and deemed it safe to drive. I drove it to work the next day (again, on a major highway) and the car died again upon acceleration.

Car has been shuddering upon start and occasionally while in park or drive with foot on brake. All dash lights have come on multiple times while driving and will usually be reset once turning off the car. Took to two dealers over 1-2 years and was told they could not find an issue. Shuddering got worse so we returned to one of the dealers who told us there was a code firing for the fuel injectors and that they needed replacement but were backordered indefinitely and car would not pass inspection without them. Research online shows this is a very common issue with our year's model and they are backordered due to the high number of needed replacements.

On 2017 CRV with just over 100,000 miles has experienced multiple rear door lock actuator faults impacting both rear doors and the rear hatch release (locking them all in place and not able to unlock with the power switch or key fob), and as of last couple weeks our vehicle experienced a sputtering engine and sometimes would hesitate to start (or wouldn't on the first try). The culprit of the issue was the fuel pump, which had internally degraded and ultimately couldn't produce the pressure necessary for proper fuel delivery. This has been diagnosed and reported by a local independent shop (Honda Master Mechanic though) and is currently being fixed. I will have an invoice for repair once the part arrives and is installed (the replacement pump is on national backorder). I can also confirm that the pump being replaced in my 2017 CRV is a Denso unit as well, and is original to the vehicle. Currently, Honda has an active recall for fuel pump failures, but only in CRVs from 2018 and 2019 (not 2017, although I can attest that some 2017 models are being impacted). Honda had originally recalled those pumps from 2018 and 2019 models (plus those from Accords, Civics and some Acura models) due to safety issues related to fuel delivery system failure. Those safety concerns should be extended to all vehicles being impacted.

The car cabin smells like gasoline due to faulty fuel injectors. I tried getting Honda to fix it and they claimed it was a software issue. After the software update the very next day the car showed 6 different warnings. The warnings would come on intermittently but now they are always showing. When the warning lights weren-??t on the car would stop abruptly due to the front end collision system. I tried to get them to fix the warning lights and they wanted me to shell out close to 2,000 dollars to replace a part that-??s only about 200 dollars retail.

Vehicle is going in to 'limp" mode at highway speeds without warning. All safety features including ACC, LKAS, Emergency Braking, Collision avoidance, brake hold do not work when this happens. Vehicle must be pulled over to the side of the road, shut off and then restarted to allow car to operate at normal speed until the issue occurs again ( usually 20-30 minutes later). Brought car to Honda and they confirmed fuel injector issue. Part is discontinued and new parts not available. No recall, but incidences where all warning lights come on the dash are all over user groups on the internet. Problem ALWAYS comes back to fuel injectors. The main issue is that it goes in to limp mode with no acceleration available without warning. This creates a HUGE safety issue in rush hour traffic. Honda does not acknowledge the problem with the injector and can offer no information as to when replacement injectors would be available.

My wife was driving the car with her 2 friends on highway left lane, all the sudden the engine light flash and the engine was stalling (cannot accelerate). She was driving 55mph before, all the sudden she only can driving 20mph even she gas up. Luckily she was able to pull over to the right lane and parked on the right side zebra lane. Then I went to help my wife I was only 5-10 minutes from where she was. I drove off the highway with 22mph even I gas up (unable to accelerate past 25th). I got out the highway then turn off and on the engine then the light disappeared. Next day we drove then emission system problem light turn on, same turn off and on the engine then the light disappeared. Next day Monday I went to my mechanic and he told me there no light on, come back when the light on. Same day Monday we drove the emissions light turn on again after we drove about 10-15 miles, I went to my mechanic and he told me there problem with the fuel system, the car unable to burn off all the fuel and the fuel get into the engine. There is a problem with the designs on the fuel and injector system and there was a recall in China and service bulletin 19-037. Of course the light turn off after my mechanic change the engine oil which in China Honda performed oil change for life for all the crv which sold in China. My mechanic did the oil change and tell me go to the dealership as soon as possible. So I went to the Honda dealership next day and they told me to pay for the diagnostic but the light not on, it does not make any sense for me to pay $179 and no code since there no light turn on on the dashboard. I told them I just want to fix the problems which stated on the bulletin, but they refused, I spoke to the manager and Honda customer service, they told me same thing, need to diagnose before anything can be done. I suggested the Honda recall all model crv from 2017 to fix the defective design problems before anyone get serious injury. Stalling is a safety iss

Car goes into limp mode because of misfiring in cylinders - fuel in oil and In cylinders. Paid to flush injection system and clean oil of fuel and in two weeks it went back to the same issue. There is a known fuel/oil mixture issue and this is that problem.

1 year ago, 1/26/22, my 2017 Honda CR-V experienced a sudden loss of power/acceleration and every error message that could possibly turn on flashed on my dash display. The error messages displayed were very alarming as I remember some of them indicated braking and safety features failing. I was driving on an interstate at a speed of at least 60 mph and had to merge across two lanes of traffic to the nearest exit. I was unable to drive my vehicle any faster than 20-25mph but I was able to drive to a local Honda dealership (Buerkle Honda in Vandais Heights, MN) for diagnostics. I was told that the turbo charger needed to be replaced. I did not ask for any diagnostic details at this time and no root cause for the turbo charger failure was given. It was implied that it was not something completely out of the ordinary for a turbo charger to fail on a vehicle after 90k miles. January 5th 2023, less than a year after the turbo charger had been replaced, I found myself on an interstate again and experiencing DejaVu. The exact same symptoms that I had experienced with the vehicle before (warning messages, loss of engine power) happened again. This time the same dealership (Buerkle Honda) told me that they suspected oil sludge had clogged the oil system and caused the turbocharger to be starved of oil. They also told me that the engine would need to be replaced. This time the vehicle had 108k miles and was no longer in warranty. I brought the vehicle to my mechanic and was given a very different explanation. They changed the oil and found a significant amount of fuel mixed with the oil. They also noticed the engine air filter was saturated with oil (picture included). The saw that a vacuum hose had split and become "gummy" likely due to gas fumes infiltrating the vacuum system (picture included). The oil dilution problem is a well known issue with Honda MY 2017-2019 CR-Vs and this is just another result of Honda failing to find a solution for it.

Fuel injector for Cylinder 3 failed. This has been a 6 month issue starting with simple cold start issue misfire with cylinder 3 (didn't know this was the issue then). I mentioned this issue at my last oil change (about 3-4 months ago) due to it getting worse, and was told there was nothing wrong with my car. A couple months later, I noticed my AC had quit blowing. Fast-forward to 1 week ago, I got on the interstate and tried to go around someone when my car went into full idle mode because of the misfire with cars speeding behind me and a car to the right of me and could not get over for safety. This almost caused a crash on the interstate due to the misfire issue. I took my car into the dealer today (December 5th, 2022), and was told it was a misfire with cylinder 3 (code P0304), and it was the fuel injectors. I did have them fix the issue since I need the vehicle. Honda Recalls specifically state that there is a misfire issue with P0304, but says it does not include my VIN. I believe this is an error on their behalf since half of the issues described in the recall notice describes the issues of what was happening with my vehicle.

In May of 2022, my CRV showed many warning messages for nearly every system in the vehicle including emissions, brakes, power steering, vehicle stability assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation and several others. A friend had the same thing happen except he was traveling at 70mph and experienced a very serious, life-changing car crash. I had my vehicle towed to Honda dealer and was told there was a misfire on cylinder 3 (PO303) and that cylinder 1 looked worn as well. They replaced spark plugs on those cylinders (though I requested they do all 4 at once) and the A/C unit. Apparently this is a "known problem" to Honda but I was never told things to watch for, or to bring the vehicle in for service, until it was inoperable. The dealership gave me a copy of Service Bulletin 19-032 by Honda-- dated June 18, 2019 and said the "good news" was they would extend my warranty for an additional year. If there were another issue, I would not be on the hook for repairs. Only 6 months later, all of the same warning lights came on again-- this time as I was driving my 3-year-old to daycare. I pulled over and again had the vehicle towed. The dealer reports the same diagnostic codes and issues, but this time says their repair flow chart indicates the next step is a $1500 fuel injector replacement. Somehow, despite being distinctly related, it is not covered by the extended warranty. To my understanding, fuel injectors do not generally need replacing in my area before about 100,000 miles. My vehicle has 70,000 miles on it. My question is, what if this costly repair works for 6 months & then I have the same systems malfunctioning again" What's next on the flow chart & how much will that cost? Most importantly, what if I'm driving at 70mph with my toddler in the back seat when the brake systems go out?" Honda knows this is a serious problem & should have responded more meaningfully years ago. I've loved my CRV but can no longer drive it with confidence.

My vehicle received a new battery, which resulted in all dash lights coming on and staying on. Dealer advised that fuel injectors need to be replaced. Contacted Honda Corp. after reading that Honda had extended the warranty to cover some CRVs up to 200,000, in which my would had been covered. I do t know why getting new battery would results in lights coming on but no problems until then.

The issue was reported on 08OCT2022 to a Phil Hughes Honda. The vehicle was brought into the Phil Hughes on 13OCT2022 due to all the lights on the dash were lit up but was drivable to the dealer. Prior to completing the Service Bulletin 19-032, Phil Hughes Honda diagnosed with P0301 (Cylinder 1) misfiring and P0172 (fuel system too rich). The lead service tech has already mentioned the root cause is the fuel injectors causing the misfire and fuel system too rich. I had the vehicle for less than one day after the completion of the service bulleting 09-032. There was lost of power on the road on three (3) different occasions. Loss of power means the vehicle went into "limp" mode during normal road driving and dropped acceleration from normal speed 60mph to ~20mph and continued to decelerate to about ~10mph. The vehicle was pulled over, turned off for about 5 minutes, and turned back on with all the warning lights remaining lit. All the warning lights remain on and was diagnosed again by Phil Hughes Honda and, this time, they got more codes. But, this time there were misfires with Cylinder 1, 2, 3 AND 4 which would be codes P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, and P0172 fuel system too rich. Again, the root cause has been diagnosed to be the fuel injectors. Case # [XXX] is open Honda of America has been contacted and Case # [XXX]. Honda of America classifies fuel injectors as an emissions part which is hard to believe as fuel in delivered to the engine which the engine is part of the power train. Honda Service Bulletin 19-032 says the POSSIBLE CAUSE is "Based on certain driving patterns and environmental factors, the DTC's state above may set or whirling noise may occur). This is not true and the true root cause is fuel injectors. This is a HIGH RISK that is waiting to occur and there could have been a FATALITY as the vehicle dropped in deceleration in the middle of the street and someone could have gotten rear-ended and killed. Fuel injectors failed at 45k miles, resulting in PO304 and PO172. Engine dies at speed causing the vehicle to stop and requires a restart to resume acceleration. Problem is intermittent and happens without notice. Dealer confirmed failed fuel injectors. Vehicle stops enters limp mode (0% power, does not respond to accelerator input) at random speeds. vehicle needs full stop and restart to resume driving. Yes, Dealer confirmed fuel injectors are faulty and suggests this is fairly common with this model CRV Yes, Honda will replace the injectors. Suggest the failure is common but not covered under warranty or goodwill repair All dashboard warning lights (Brake System Failure, Parking Brake Failure, Traction Control, Power Steering, Lane Keeping, Malfunction Indicator Lamp, Etc.)
