CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

Honda sensing activated and slammed on the brakes during regular Suburban driving without anything to prompt it. I was driving about 40 miles an hour down a local road without having a car in front of me. The vehicle slammed on the brakes and sent a warning as if something was impeding the front pathway while moving. There were not any cars in front and the car slammed on the brakes causing my belt to lock unexpectedly and vehicle to slow down dramatically leading to me almost being rear ended.

Traveling on interstate at the speed limit the car suddenly braked. All safety systems were activated at this time. Fortunately there was no traffic in front, behind or beside. I got the car under control, turned all systems off and proceeded. Messages on dash indicated four systems were inoperatable. When I got home I called Honda to report. They suggested I take the car to my dealer. I did so the following day. (this happened on a weekend) they indicated there was a "bulletin" out on this problem. They downloaded new software to correct the problem. Now my concern. Bulletins are only acted upon when an owner complains. The issue I outlined above warrants surely qualifies for more than a bulletin. At the same time.at the dealer I learned of another problem...a recall for a gas line issue. Someone needs to inform the owners of this vehicle when a recall is made. I was not informed. I accidentally found out about it.at the dealer, consumer gives permission to discuss this matter with the Honda Corp

For a second time we have taken the vehicle to the service department after having problems with it not having power to go past 2 rpms and pulling as if it has a problem with the fuel line. After having vehicle towed the first instanceon10/17/2017 they checked it and could find no evidence of anything gone wrong, the car was only 2 weeks old. This second incident comes 1 month later and now the brake system light came on and even though the gear shifter was in the correct position there were two letters on top of one another and blinking. We could only drive it up to 30 miles an hour without it pulling. There were no problems breaking.11/21/2017

Driving down any road with tar strips sometimes causes the vehicle to give a warning (wheel shake) of lane departure. This is easily overridden by the driver, but is very irritating. It must think the tar strips are lane markers! when the cruise control (adaptive cruise control) is engaged, the acc can sometimes jam on the brakes with no obstacle in the path. It happens when cars ahead are pulling off to the left or right but are clearly out of the lane of travel. This happened on a two lane undivided Suburban road. I have had two near misses with following cars having to brake, and two other times with no cars following. One event happened on a curve of a two lane divided road with a car completely in the left hand turn lane ahead with my vehicle in the lane of travel. Acc jammed my brakes on causing me to have to hit the brake pedal and then accelerator to avoid cars behind. There is no defeat for the acc function so just regular cruise control can be used. This cruise control is not ready for prime time! Honda just says their is nothing wrong with it and the software is up to date. It is so scary I'm considering trading this vehicle for one that won't get me into an accident. The Subaru eyesight system is remarkably better than this disaster.

I drove down the highway 65 miles per hour when suddenly the car computer got stuck and then started again giving different errors. Deactivated brake system, frame missing gasoline, frame road stabilization system deactivated and finally speed control frame speed a fault.
