CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

Very strong continuous smell of gasoline inside the car coming from the front engine area of the car when starting it and the smell circulates in the car while driving it. Also smell gas from the car for a long while, after parking it in my enclosed garage. This is a serious health, safety and evironmental issue. The smell makes me nauseous. Just bought this 2017 Honda CRV three months ago, took this vehicle back to dealer, he said thehonda factory doesn't have any fixes for this issue. Untrue per data found online which states this issue has been taken care of per a recall of these vehicles in Canada and for some states but not yet in all usa states, including my state. I hope this vehicle is recalled and the issue fixed very soon for our health and safety.

The level of the fluid on the oil dipstick will increase after an oil change. And upon removing it smells of gasoline. 2000 miles after an oil change the level on the dipstick will read 1/2' higher than normal. Which tells me gas is somehow entering the crankcase and diluting the oil.

I believe my vehicle is part of the Honda 1.5L oil-fuel problem first noticed back in late 2017. I did not think much about it until I talked with two other co-workers who also have 2017 Honda Cr-vs. First, my engine performance slowly drops after each oil change, then picks back up again once I have gotten an oil change. Second, this was my first winter with my CR-V and I noticed that it has a very hard time accelerating during the winter months even after letting the engine warm up for several minutes. Lastly, the instrument panel says that my oil level is at a certain %, for instance it says that I am at 20% right now, however, when I check the dipstick, I see oil well above the "full" line. I would like to know what I can do to remedy this problem. I live in the state of Virginia, and noticed that there is no fix for vehicles in my state.

Checked my oil level it was above the max level. The oil indicator says we have 10% oil life. And the oil smells like gasoline. Went to the dealer they said it's not a problem. They gave us a speech that it's normal to have gas that leaks to the oil and it will evaporate. Our other cars doesn't. it hasn't affected the car yet but just concern that something will happen while I'm driving.

It is the end of March 2019. The oil level in the 1.5T engine keeps going up. The dip stick has strong gasoline odor. Service bulletin 18-147 has been applied to the to the car in early January of 2019 and is not helping with the oil dilution. Why is service bulletin 18-147 not considered a recall since it is mandatory for those who received the notice" why is the NHTSA not investigating a vehicle that has 500-1000% more posted complaints than the average vehicle of the same class"

Engine was making a fluttery sound. Noticed fuel in oil, found cams were binding and timing chain was stretched and loose. They replaced cylinder head and timing chain. Learned online this is a known result of oil diluted by fuel, and there is a fix but only for cars registered in certain states, not my state. Complained to american Honda, case #09409822. Was told oil dilution is normal, car should not be driven short distances - claimed this is in warranty documents - and they will do nothing, and also cannot provide me with anything in writing. No presale mention of "requirement" to not drive under several miles. With my 1/2-mile commute, would never have purchased this vehicle. Based on this I am terrified that some time while driving in the future the timing chain will fail while I am driving, the engine will stop, and this could lead to serious injury or death -- either mine or yhat of strangers.

Gasoline in engine. I have discussed this issue with dealer but no response. I also wrote this entity but I have not received any knowledgement of this issue. I do regular oil change and the oil always smells like gas just before I take it I. to have oil changes regularly (3500 or 5000 miles). Plus I have yet in the 18 months I've owned the CR-V to get an oil chance notification. I want the issue with this/my CR-V be addressed and corrected! I would like to receive an reply that will help me with this issue!

Received a notice from Honda about a recall to update software and change A/C module to prevent mil from coming on. Went to dealer and had service completed and was told they had to change the engine oil per Honda due to possible contamination from the service action. But I would have to pay for the filter. Twelve dollars is not a huge amount, but there is no way the oil would be contaminated by this service action. Now there is a well known issue with Honda crvs concerning oil dilution. This service bulletin does not in any manner allude to this problem, but does seem to be aimed directly at it. The dealer service managers express no knowledge of any oil issues. I have tried to contact Honda regarding this and no reply. As a side note Honda is offering Canadian owners a free extended warranty due to this issue, and to us buyers won't even acknowledge the problem.

I purchase a 2017 Honda CRV-ex with the 1.5 liter turbo engine. During the past 6 months I've been having the following problems with my vehicle ' the oil smell of gas, passenger compartment smell like gas, rising oil levels, stalling and loss of power. I understand that Honda motor company, ltd has recalled 350,000 Honda CRV's in china because of the same problem. The company is calling back those cars to resolve a problem caused by an unusual amount of un-combusted petrol collecting in the engine's lubricant oil pan. Honda dealerships in Canada with oil dilution problems have already started repairs of their 2017 & 2018 Honda Cr-vs after it was contacted by Canadian motor vehicle arbitration plan (camvap). I would like Honda to buy back my vehicle unless I received the same repairs as the Canadian Honda owners, which are the following: 1.) performed N60 campaign (oil dilution) 2.) replaced climate control unit 3.) replaced drain plug washer 4.) replaced oil 5.) updated pgm-fi and tcm software. 6.) warranty extensions on all engine components for up to six years from original date of purchase, with no mileage limit. Given that the problem is well documented, Honda has a responsibility to address the issue in an open and transparent manner. Honda had knowledge of the turbo engine defects that cause fuel to enter the engine and did absolutely nothing for an entire year. I seek a permanent fix to the problem, not just a flushing out of the vehicle's oil reservoir as the dealership has already performed to no effect. If Honda cannot remedy the problem, I seek a full refund of my vehicle.

The engine oil level on the dipstick was very high during a recent random oil check. There was a gasoline odor on the dipstick. I have informed the local dealer who sold the car (howdy Honda in austin, Texas), and had them perform an oil change. The dealer recommended to keep an eye on it. Also, I notified Honda usa by email. They sent an automated reply with a case number, but made no other attempt at contact.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. while the contact's husband was traveling 35 mph, the check engine, brake, oil, and hill acceleration warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that cylinder number three misfired. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 09400744. The contact was referred to the local dealer. The contact stated that the failure was similar to a fault turbo charge article. The failure mileage was 48,640.

Yesterday I got in my car to head home from work. When I turned it on, I got a number of systems alerts, including the engine, brakes, power steering and others. I was able to get the car home, but when I was going to take it the dealership, the car sputtered and seems to be losing power as if it would stall. This is the third time that I have gotten system alerts and taken the car to be repaired. The first time, the oil was changed and a software update performed. The second time, a software update was performed. This time, I checked the oil and it was over full and smelled of gas. The car is now at the dealership for them to determine the issue. I live in Texas. The first time this happened, was during the summer. The last two times have been in winter.
