CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

All dashboard warning lights come on They flash and cycle through. I have reported to Don Wessell Honda and Pineger Honda in Springfield, MO and Honda of Jefferson City, Jefferson City, MO. This stated sporadically in 2021 and is constant in 2023. I have paid for replacement parts based on the best guess of the problem. Scanning tool does not show codes. First alternator, then oxygen sensor and now injectors. Honda believes injectors are the problem. It is over $1,000 to replace them. I have found numerous people having the same issue on line. I believe these injectors should be covered under a recall. They are dangerous!!! When the flashing lights go off the car works fine; once they turn on, randomly, the car spurts and dies out. I have no power to drive. I have to manually turn off car and restart it to get power. This is extremely dangerous in the middle of the road. I purchased this vehicle new and had to have the computer replaced soon after I purchased it. It is beyond frustrating, expensive, and extremely dangerous to not have your car perform when your driving down the road. Please recall these injectors before I or someone else gets hurt or killed by the car losing power suddenly when driving. Thank you sincerely.

The engine failed and I was stranded 60 miles from home.all the dash lights were blinking and I couldn-??t get the parking brake to unlock. It is available for inspection. I was stranded at a service station with another senior citizen for three hours in 100 degree plus weather. We were stranded and our safety was compromised as we waited for help. I had it towed to a dealer 20 miles away. Rented a hotel and got an Uber to the car the next morning. The auto repair person examined the car and determined that the turbo fan had disintegrated and was sucked into the engine. After further rested he reported the engine had failed and it would cost $8 000. Many of the lights and sensors suddenly began to blink. The car lost some power but we were able to limp to the gas station. Hello [XXX], Here are my technicians findings, due to the metal moving through the oil passages he recommends replacing the engine and turbo "verified engine running rough. retrieved operative dtcs p0299(PGM-FI) and u0416-68(IDSS). U0416-68 likely caused by millimeter wave radar software. rec. update. p0299 and rough running. turbo underboost issue. road tested and captured snapshots. found turbo not boosting. found intercooler and pipes not leaking. found evap purge not leaking. inspected and found turbocharger turbine damaged. turbine debris through intake system from turbo to throttle body and into intake. on road test dtc p2101 electric throttle control malfunction was set and vehicle entered limp mode. found significant debris in throttle body likely causing dtc. suspect debris has entered engine and potential cause for further problems. can only speculate cause for turbo failure. oiling system may be cause. teardown would be necessary for further identification of cause. engine and turbo replacement recommended" Please let me know if you have any other questions i can help answer. I demand answers for the issues I have been facing with my vehicle. I have been to multiple dealerships, but none of them have been able to provide a satisfactory solution. The dashboard lights have abruptly turned on, rendering various features such as radio, HVAC, power steering, brakes, cruise control, and others useless. Every time we have read the codes, different issues have been identified without any explanation as to why they are happening. It's high time that someone takes accountability for the problem and comes up with a solution.

Beginning 8/22 and currently happening, my 2017 CR-V 1.5L Turbo with 48K miles (and all routine services done at Honda dealership/service centers since buying it brand new) does not engage when going from Reverse to Drive; in 1st gear the RPMS increase up to 3K or so before shifting into 2nd gear. When stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, and the car is idling, when starting up again the car hesitates and shutters before engaging. When on the highway and slow down for traffic or switching lanes, the vehicle hesitates even when pushing the gas pedal consistently or down all the way. I have had the vehicle into three different Honda dealerships/service centers and they can replicate the issue but no resolution as there are no service codes identified during diagnostics and none appear on the dash. First Honda advisor came up with no recommendations; 2nd advisor flushed and replaced transmission fluid; and 3rd advisor suggested testing and replacing turbo at cost of $3500+ and no guarantee it would solve the problem. I am distressed that the issue cannot be identified by Honda and fixed. I fear for my personal safety and that of my passengers as the CR-V is less reliable and I only drive short distances when need be. Taking it on a road-trip or long distance is out of the question. It-??s a matter of time before I-??m left stranded or in an accident due to lack of throttle response.

All warning lights come on until reset. Eventually leads to the car stalling, three times in the middle of busy high speed intersections. Have brought to the Honda dealer multiple times and been given several very expensive fixes that all did not solve the issue. (Spark plugs, fuel injectors(x2), alternator). All safety features are suspended when this happens. I have an open case with American Honda cooperation but they have not responded in 3 weeks.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle went into LIMP Mode while at a traffic light and then lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the points, intake manifold, oil rings, fuel injectors, and spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was previously taken to another local dealer Hardin County Honda 5608 N Dixie Hwy, Elizabethtown, KY 42701 who replaced the points and plugs. The mechanic informed the contact that the fuel system was running rich and with a misfire in cylinders #1 and #2. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

My 2017 CRV started beginning of this year 2023 one day with all the dash codes lighting up effecting the safety drivability of the vehicle. It would randomly stop accelerating and all driver assist system not functioning properly. Accelerating was dangerous vehicle would stall or hesitate to go and almost caused us to get into an accident. This has been brought to a main Honda dealership in Henrietta New York and confirmed that replacing the fuel injectors would solve the problem and that this was an ongoing issue with the Honda CRVs. My vehicle was one of many that had been waiting for fuel injectors to be delivered at that shop. Based on other forums and Honda sites how this isn-??t a recall is baffling. We waited over a month without our vehicle being fixed and unusable because the part was out of stock. Vehicle is still not fixed and we called all out Honda dealerships in Rochester New York today and they ALL are waiting for fuel injectors for the CRVs they have being repaired. I purchased this vehicle known for Hondas reliability but this is EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING you have customers with HONDA brand vehicles that ARE unusable and unsafe DUE TO A COMMON KNOWN ISSUE with the all the dash lights being effected by fuel injectors. This coming from a family of 6 with 4 children. Currently vehicle has been inspected by two auto shops for same issue and replicated codes, and unsafe driving issues with our CRV.

I bought my CRV touring used with 90,000 miles in July of 2022. I-??ve had nothing but issues with fuel economy and the car feeling sluggish and held back because it-??s not running properly along with getting every warning light on the dash that-??s possible when it-??s having the issue. P0172 is the code I get and my dealership said it-??s the fuel injectors. It is a known and problematic issue that should be resolved by Honda for free because it is faulty. I was quoted $1,388 just to replace the injectors but they-??re on back order.

The bearing wore out at only 62,839 miles causing sudden and complete engine failure on the highway in the desert near Barstow California. We lost power and the car was shaking and spewing blue smoke from the tailpipes. We easily could have been rear ended at 70 mph but somehow managed to get off to the side of the road and at 2 mph make it up an exit ramp. We had to have the car towed 2 hours to a Honda Dealership in Irvine and it needs a whole new engine. It has been there 17 days (ruining our road trip vacation) and just now is finally getting the new engine. The top of the line $2400 -10 year-120,000 mile extended warranty we bought at purchase is refusing to cover it. The mechanic has found a great deal of metal bits in the oil pan and the number 2 bearing is worn down to the brass like it is a much older car with more miles on it. There were no warning lights on the dash before this happened and the car was not overheating and had plenty of oil and oil life left. This whole experience has been a nightmare. Our North Carolina mechanic sent us Consumer Reports articles about the 2017 and 2018 CRV Turbo engines having a defect causing gasoline to leak into the oil system, thus reducing the effect of the oil on the bearings and cylinders. This is a serious and dangerous defect. The repairs alone will cost $8000 plus the added food and accommodation expenses, towing costs, and the complete ruining of our vacation.

Major driveability/safety issue. The vehicle started skipping and jerking on highway I-93 on the New Hampshire/ Massachusetts line. I was accelerating to 65 mph and merged with traffic, when the car engine began stalling intermittently. The check engine and maintenance indicator lights turned on. As I coasted to the side of the road, the vehicle continued to jerk and slow/speed up.

All the warning lights activated when I was driving on the highway and the car made a bell noise to alert me. None of the safety features worked on the Honda CRV 2017, but I was able to maintain driving the vehicle without it. I took it into Tempe Honda Service and they said that the code read DTC P0172 and that I needed to replace all the fuel injectors.

The check engine light on my 2017 Honda CRV came on August 2022 and all safety features of my vehicle stopped working. I immediately took the car to my local Honda dealership. They claim the issue is due to faulty fuel injectors but refused to cover the cost to fix them under warranty even though it-??s a known issue with this car and a couple of other Honda cars that use the same system. I-??m really concerned as the injector issue disables KEY safety features when it occurs. An injector issue should NOT cause safety features to stop working (ex. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, TPS, Hill Start Assist, Braking, etc...). Honda should be held responsible for putting their customers lives at risk with faulty systems and lack of accountability or solutions.

Three years ago all the dashboard warning lights went on in my car saying everything was wrong with my car 'brake system problem, ' power steering problem, hill assist problem, etc. etc. etc. I took it to Honda immediately and they had no idea why it was happening. If I spend $4,000 they'll figure it out. Once in a blue moon the lights will magically turn off on its own for two or three days with no problems and then the lights come back on every single time you start the car. 355 days out of the year the lights are on every single time you start the car with no safety features able to work. It's beyond irritating, but it's mostly annoying because when you pay for extra safety features (like lane keep assist) none of them work when the lights are on. NONE. No brake warning, no lane keep assist, nothing. The car runs fine - people who do the tire rotations can't recalibrate it. So I took it to Honda again last week only to be told it is a problem with the fuel injectors and it's mostly 2017 models because of the new engine look. The fuel injectors weren't made properly to fit the vehicle, and the fact thousands of people have had this exact issue and Honda WON'T address it or do a recall, is absolutely wrong and disgusting. It's not a cheap fix. I will never buy a Honda ever again.

On major highways with traffic, the car would idle rough before conking out completely, especially upon acceleration. In cases where I needed to accelerate to merge into traffic, it was very scary, unpredictable, and unsafe. All warning display messages came on as well. Two mechanics have looked and the second mechanic stated that there's a common issue with fuel injectors for 2017 Honda CRV's. Since it's such a common problem with these cars, the fuel injectors are on a very extended backorder. So, he replaced them with after market injectors and deemed it safe to drive. I drove it to work the next day (again, on a major highway) and the car died again upon acceleration.

We have experienced 3 episodes where all of the system failure alarm lights have been activated. The battery was replaced and the fuel injectors were cleaned after the first 2 episodes. On May 19, 2023, we were driving on I-5 north 100 miles from home when the warning lights came on. We turned around to return home. The car went into limp mode and could only go 10 mph over the passes. This was dangerous considering the number of trucks traveling on the highway. The following week it was determine that the turbocharger had failed due to a clogged oil filter screen. All of the scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, had been performed by the Honda dealership. There have been reported issues with the engine in the 2017 Honda CR-V, including oil dilution problems.

Week of April 11th, While driving the car, the vehicle would start to shake and the following warning messages came on as the vehicle would start to decelerate making us drift to the emergency lane avoid getting hit by an oncoming vehicles. The following messages came up on multiple occasions on the panel. (note, we could only select 3 options above so were not able select all of these) 1. Collision Mitigation System Problem 2. Adaptive Cruise Control Problem 3. Road Departure Mitigation System Problem 4. Electrical Parking Break Problem 5. Tire Pressure Monitor Problem 6. Power Steering System (EPS) Problem The car was inspected by Danbury Honda service department, who informed us that it was a blown head gasket. The car is a 2017 purchased in 2020 by Danbury Honda Dearlership. As we worked primarily from home for the last 3 years, the car was not driven that often and oil changes have been up to date. There have been no signs of leaking or overheating including the temperature gauge not showing any signs of overheating and remained in neutral or below temperature. The Danbury Honda service department could not explain how a blow head gasket was possible. We then proceeded to have it inspected by Danbury Brewster Service Department week of April 18th, who informed us that it was a spark plug issue. And there was no indication of a head gasket. After spark plug was repaired, the car was being driven with no issues and on May 4th, the incident above happened again (again no overheating or leaking). We went back to Honda Brewster who said it was a blown head gasket with no explanation as to how this as possible. We are attaching the service technician inspection report and photos. This has caused anxiety and stress where we are not safe driving the vehicle. Our daughter just recently obtained a license and, thankfully, this did not happen to her. We have been fans of hondas for many years and between us have owned 4 honda vehicles.

I was driving and put on the air conditioner when a decrease in the engine power occurred. Then all the safety features installed on the car rotated on the dashboard, in addition the check engine light and all the other yellow lights were on and there was a lot of white smoke coming out of my exhaust.I then took it to my mechanic who diagnosed it as a turbo booster failure. It is a safety issue due to my engine could have seize or caused a fire since I was driving on a highway at the time.I found out my extended warranty expired in April, one month before. Also, the mechanic showed me the turbocharger and the turbine wheel was moving around when it was supposed to be in a stationary position.

The car cabin smells like gasoline due to faulty fuel injectors. I tried getting Honda to fix it and they claimed it was a software issue. After the software update the very next day the car showed 6 different warnings. The warnings would come on intermittently but now they are always showing. When the warning lights weren-??t on the car would stop abruptly due to the front end collision system. I tried to get them to fix the warning lights and they wanted me to shell out close to 2,000 dollars to replace a part that-??s only about 200 dollars retail.
