CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

After reading a consumer reports article about gasoline in the oil, asking owners to check oil level, I did it and found out that the oil level was about one inch above the maximum mark. I also noticed that the tip of the dipstick smells of gasoline. I checked the oil level in the morning before the car was driven since yesterday. Please see the attached picture of the dipstick.

Engine oil bay smells like gasoline because of the gas mixing with the oil. My day is filled with short drives so the gasoline will not evaporate.

Very high reading on oil dipstick. Strong gas smell as well. Honda has aware this issue but the dealer denies the smell and only lower the oil level without perform oil change.

There is concern that the engine will seize while driving. When the vehicle is parked while checking the oil level, there is a strong gasoline odor from the engine oil level dip stick and the oil filler cap. Also the oil level seems to increase between oil changes. A sample of the oil was sent to oil analyzers Inc at the last oil change by the owner. The report is attached. Note that the report indicates fuel dilution greater that 5% but in the comment section the is no noted engine wear metals found that is above normal. Honda North America was notified and case #09009335 was generated. The local Honda dealership was notified by U.S. postal service certified mail. This letter is attached.

I have observed high oil levels and raw fuel odors on the dip stck, along with raw fuel odors in the cabin. I know Honda is aware of the issue but has offered no guidance. Tell they have a fix in place, Honda should be giving free oil changes to prevent engine damage and premature wear and tear.

Oil dilution issue. Upon checking engine oil level, noticed that level was 1/2" above top of dipstick measurement area. Engine dipstick also smelled like gasoline. Took car to dealer, they noted the excessive oil level as well, took pictures, and is contacting Honda. Dealer stated this is a known issue with a fix expected in November. Dealer changed engine oil in the mean time to bring engine oil to normal level and viscosity. Previously noted with dealer that smell of gasoline was present in vehicle cabin. Unknown fix at that time and I stated that I would bring it back if it continues to be an issue.

2017 CRV AWD 2 months into owning all lights on dash like brake system engine air bags, tirer, brake. I see spots of oil driveway but oil is always full. Stalls sometimes when taking off. The other day the back wheels locked up causing the SUV to stop in middle of road, and couldnt move forward or backwards. The SUV swag side to side causing backend to slide sisde to side. Making it very hard to keep the SUV on the road. I have called about the dash lights all of them on and they said it needed to be rest. Smell gas inside the SUV. I had a 2006 Honda civic brought it new I never had a problem out of it going 300,000 miles with no problems thats why I chose to get another Honda, but with 2017 Honda CRV has been hell with all the issues and is a safety concern.

I have done two oil changes at home this past year and each time I have extracted more fluids than the listed oil capacity in the owners manual. I read an article from consumer reports reporting that there maybe gasoline mixing with the engine oil. The symptom of over filled engine oil is a common one as reported in the article.

Our 2017 Honda CRV keeps showing over full even though no oil was added and has a very strong fuel smell to it. I feel fuel mixing in the oil could be a very unsafe condition. The engine could also suffer major damage because of this.

I have smelled gasoline three times recently when driving. I called the Honda headquarters. They told me this problem is something they are working on. There is no fix for it at this time. They claim gas leaks into the oil filter which can affect the engine. I am concerned about my safety snd a possible engine problem. I have received no satisfaction. In addition I have had two other major problems in the short time I am driving my car. My battery needed to be replaced 7 months after I drove out of the dealership I was parked in a parking lot when my battery died. Recently the gear shift knob broke off when it was in drive and I was not able to shift gears. I was dropping off a passenger. It was replaced.

After purchasing the vehicle new, I noticed at around 4K miles the oil smelled heavily of fuel and was overfull. The engine oil and filter were changed. 5K miles later the oil again reeked of fuel as was overfull. Oil and filter changed again. At around 15K miles the oil again is overfull and apparently diluted with oil. I did research and it appears this may be a widespread issue. I'm concerned if I actually followed the maintenance minder system and went 10K miles per oil change the engine will lock up from lack of lubrication.
