CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

Took vehicle to dealer after CR-V was difficult to "get to move" after sitting outside in ~ 10 degree (F) weather. Engine would start, but vehicle didn't want to move. Tech confirmed condition after vehicle parked outside at dealer overnight.

Was told fluid had leaked and CVT was not working properly. Never observed any fluid on garage floor or in parking spot in parking garage. But was told there had been a serious leak with fluid all over "the top of the pan" and visual inspection found fluid very low.

CVT and pump were separated and badly damaged o-ring found. Repaired under warranty.

leaking transfer case

The car's transfer case leaking due to a bad seal was from the start. I didn't know about it until I went in for an oil change at 6k mileage (4 months after purchase). The mechanic took off the bottom cover and was changing the oil and notified me that there's a leak in the transmission. I took it into the dealer and they made me wait from Monday to Saturday before I got the car back. They ordered the wrong part and kept me waiting without telling me. They kept telling me it'll be fixed the next day. It was such a hassle. New car should not have a leak!
