CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

On the 4th (around 20K miles) oil change from dealership I complained about driver side seat cushion and brake pedal making squeaky noise. I was told it's normal in new car during the breakin process and eventually it'll go away. Now it's even worse at above 50K miles and they're asking for diagnostic charges. Car also has fuel and oil mixing issue which I brought it up on my recent visit to Honda dealership and I was told they'll need to drain the oil and refill with new oil and filter to determine the issue. While they were taking out they said there was no presence of fuel but the smell of fuel in engine oil is normal for this vehicle. There's been time where vehicle will be stuck in high RPM when on highway and accelerator is released during high speed. And eventually it'll shift the gear after 5-10 seconds and bring down the RPM. Smell is also noticed during first start in mornings specially now since it's winter.

Lift-gate latch (which is manual, not electric) will not open or sticks requiring multiple attempts to open. Dealer has advised that the latch is defective. Defective latch only observed while vehicle stationary. When driving over speed bumps at slow speeds, there is a creaking sound that comes from the lift-gate latch.

At exactly two years old, the battery died. There is a service bulletin for a software update but of course, my vehicle didn't need update, it needed a new battery due to dead cell that happened within six hours. The top sides of the body has ripples down both sides. Was told this is usually cause by roof rack (I don't have roof rack) or by car wash (my car has never been through a car wash. I won't even let dealer wash it when I'm there). The car brakes hard even when there is no obstruction in front of me. The cruise, lane assist, mitigation will all shut off at various times saying radar is off/blocked. On 10/08/19 while driving, the lcd screen started beeping, flashing and going black. Nothing would work. Car is becoming dangerous to be on roadway. Filed complaint with Honda on a couple issues. Sorry for my luck, it's now out of warranty due to mileage.

The rear passenger side door emits squeaking noise when pulling on the door pull to open the door. Upon closer examination, I saw that the post from the door pull handle rubs against the cutout hole in the door panel. This means the assembly of the door handle was off, or the cutout was located wrong. The dealer loosened the door handle to readjust its position, but it still squeaks sometimes. I can see that the post is slightly adjusted away from the cutout, but it not as far away as on the other door handles. I suspect that the cutout was located wrong, when the hole was cut in manufacturing.

I was driving my Honda CR-V (2017 model ex AWD) on a highway at 40 to 50 mph speed. It was raining at that time. I experienced big jerks couple of times and lost the control on the vehicle. Saw error message on the dash board saying 'lost traction and cancelling cruise control'. it was horrific experience.

When I was driving slowly (20 to 30 mph) on a city street, I noticed noise. I went out of the car and noticed the splash guard was almost touching the ground. Later on, I had someone remove the splash guard, and noticed some screws were missing. The original dealership told me it was not covered by warranty, so I paid the dealership to install a new splash guard. I called Honda.com support number, and was told it was not covered under warranty. I am pretty sure my car did not hit anything since it was a clear street and I was driving slow. It was not clear to me why it was not covered by the warranty. A side note: On that same day, the battery also died even though the car was just a little over one year old. The original dealership did replace the battery for me for free. It was frustrating to get stuck somewhere with two car issues at the same time for a relatively new car.

Cover, engine (lower) unclipped from the front and bent back dragging under my car driving 70mph on interstate. I was 1/3 of the way of a 120 mile trip. I pulled over after feeling something dragging under my car. At first it felt like a blown tire. After pulling over I could see the sheet metal detached from the front (rear bolts still holding). I was fortunate enough to have a good samaritan stop and pull the bolts holding the part to my car which enabled me to continue on my trip. Went to a local dealership the following Friday. Dealership told me it must have been related to my last oil change three months ago. Honda America hasn't opened a case after several phone calls. A part of a car shouldn't fall off. This was very scary and I am unsure how I safely changed lanes at such a high speed. I haven't replaced the part since I don't want to be stranded again. I travel on this interstate trip twice a week for last the 3 months. My friend who has the same car bought at the same time just had the part detach from the front but it didn't peel back and drag as mine did. This occurred on a long road trip. I will encourage my friend to report here. I am concerned for other's safety. I expect better from Honda engineers.

"takata recall" 2017 Honda CRV was rear ended by another vehicle on 4/11/18. The seat belts did not retract. The passenger in the car struck her head on the dashboard of the vehicle. This CRV has been in the repair shop since 4/17/18. Informed by the service provider that none of the seat belts retract properly.

The display in the middle goes blank while I am driving a lot. Last time I was backing out when it did which cause my car to have serious scratches on it. At the same time the back up seemed not to be working either. My son made a video of it happening one time when he is in the car. Also the radio is lock and does not display what is playing like it use too. Also sometimes when I am switching lane with my blinker on the car will not let me do it and abruptly slow down even if there is not other car on the road. I had a 2012 Honda CRV that my son drive and never had these problem. My 2017 CRV touring is by far not as well made since I have all these problems already.

The vehicle was parked in a parking lot. I opened the tailgate to store my goods. I began to close the tailgate. The tailgate was being closed by the rear switch and the left edge hit my head. It continued closing for an additional 1-2 seconds before reversing and re-opening. It resulted in a laceration and bleeding that required first-aid.

I purchased a 2018 Honda CRV from a local Honda dealer, herb chambers Honda burlington, last fall. The car had performed very reliably until January 24, when, while driving on the interstate outside of boston the hood of the car opened and smashed into the windshield. I was able to pull off the road safely in order to inspect the car. The car sustained damage to the hood and fenders. Over the course of my ownership ' I never opened the hood nor did I ever hear or notice any rattling. I brought the CRV immediately to the local Honda dealer (herb chambers) for repair, which I assumed would be covered under warranty. I also requested alternative transportation since I have a commute in excess of 20 miles. However, since they could not identify a defect to a part it was not covered and by implication my fault and I would have to find my own transportation. I contacted the dealer I purchase the CRV from and the general manager indicated that it was not a dealership issue and that I should contact Honda America customer service. I did contact them and they were able to provide me a 3 day car rental ' which was not adequate since I am expecting to be without a car for over 3 weeks. Everyone I have dealt with from Honda has been kind and courteous. However, in each and every contact they have indicated that without a visible defect, it is not Honda's problem. In not one conversation, did anyone ask what happened or offered to investigate the cause. Please let me know if you have any questions. John
