So frustrating, I was traveling about 50 mph when suddenly I hear this noise like a cracking sound. Looking around I see that two cracks appeared in my sunroof in each corner above the driver's side. There are no chips, no missing glass - just two cracks. I had just detailed my car week prior and had no issues.

We live in northern Michigan, and got about 6" of snow overnight, possibly some freezing rain earlier. I started up the CRV this a.m., and turned on the heat, defrost setting and let the car sit running for 20 minutes, to melt off or soften the accumulation on the car. When I scrapped off the windshield there was this long curving crack in the windshield. There was no impact damage, and I can only surmise that the difference in the temp on the interior of the glass and the exterior resulted in stress to crack the windshield. This was a 2016 model with 44,000 miles on it. The 2011 Silverado sitting next to it, underwent the same conditions, but there is no glass breakage.

Chipped and/or cracked Honda windshield seems to be a problem. This is our 3rd Honda CR-V (2010, 2013, and 2016) and with each vehicle, the windshield would chip from a stone or pebble on the highway; try to repair but the chip/crack would spread; and so, each time the windshield had to be replaced. Safelite tried to repair it on our current CR-V since they were recommended by our insurance company but the crack spread. We normally go to Norman's (Burlington NJ) as they do a great job. They replaced it with a PPG OEM at about $300, which is far less than the Honda dealer wanted to charge. My complaint is why do Honda windshields crack so easily? We've had other brands such as Jeep and GM/Chevrolets and they don't seem to get chips or cracks when a stone hits the windshield. Are we unlucky with Hondas or are their windshields weak? The replacement PPG OEMs seem to be stronger as well.
